hi folks. i wanna get NWN2 Plat from Steam... actually i had wanted to get it when it was launched, but was turned away by technical shortcomings - which Obsidian has built up quite a repertoire on since then.

anyway... i wish to know, objectively speaking, how well the thing runs now with all the official patches. can i expect zero to minimal performance issues? my specs: C2D E7200 (2.53 ghz), 4gb ram, GTX 560 Ti.

Thanks for your time~

No idea how to answer that as i'm not objective in the least, not yet had a computer application which does not have some sort of issues somewhere, it's all about what you are willing to accept. The game is not the best optimized, never has been, but compared to release it's a 1000 times better.

Is it worth playing, yep and the issues it has are for the most part something you can invest some effort and fix or adjust to taste. It offers a so much material created by the community in addition to the official content it's something you should be able to play for years. Recommend getting the combined NWN1 and NWN2 cd that was just released which has both complete versions for $30.00 as well.

I have the first NWN - and love DnD rpgs as a whole - which is the reason why i even consider getting NWN2. otherwise i wouldn't touch Obsidian with a 10ft pole.

as for my threshold... well, pretty high. my rig is mid-range, but it far and away exceeds the recommended spec for this game.

I have a laptop with a 2.2Hz processor, 4gb of RAM and like the minimal required graphics card to run NWN2. Performance is not amazing but it's fine, only time I had problems was one of the forest areas in Last of the Danaan where I had to turn off tree shadows because they made me lag. NWN2 is a performance hog for what it is, but if you have decent specs for nowadays and you have it fully patched it should be just fine. Also I think the Steam sale ends in like a couple of hours.

NWN2 has become better and better over the time. I myself started as one of the biggest haters and have become fan. Both of NWN2 and Obsidian by the way. It's true that Obsidian has built up a reputation of making buggy games with lots of technical shortcomings, but NWN2, although still not bug-free, has at least for me become the better NWN.

Obsidian's reputation re. buggy games might be bad, but at least they showed great care and worked close with the community to make the game better, and it showed, especially in the latest patch. Also, again that's just my opinion, their writing skills make up for a lot (IMO New Vegas is far better than Fallout 3 just for that reason too).
Furthermore, I think with MotB they made a really really good expansion that made up for the shortcomings of the Official campaign. Atmosphere, soundtrack etc. were far better in my opinion. Most of the remaining bugs mostly affect online play I'd say, but the game in it's whole is very playable.

As for your hardware setup, you're especially good since you have a nVidia card - they perform significantly better than ATI cards in NWN2 (my 4870 still needs some finetuning to run the game smoothly). Plus you get proper shadows, another shortcoming of ATI cards. On the other hand though, in the past nVidia often released drivers that broke the game and you might have to search for a working one, but that's not Obsidian's fault.

Last but not least, it's 9.99 (at least in EU land) on Steam for the whole package, which is for one a bargain and second you don't have to go through the horrible install+update procedure. I'd go for it.
