many people argue that Tali shouldn't be a space elf? But is she?

- Elves generally live long. Quarians have abouth the same lifespan like humans.
- Elves generally use magic. The magic in the ME universe is biotics quarians are the single species that doesn't have biotics
- Dwarfs love machines So do quarians
- Dwarfs live in fortresses and mines the flotilla is a artificial fortress who's interrior resemble somewhat a mine
- Dwarfs have accents usually nordic but also scottish eastern european and others. Tali's accent altough eastern european could be mistaken for nordic
- Dwarfs are shorter then humans altough I don't notice it in game but they are according to the wiki
- Dwarfs like armor, quarians have their suit
- Dwarfs like big weapons, Tali wields a shotgun
- Dwarfs are almost always armend even off duty, Tali holds a knife in her boot.
- Dwarfs have dug to deep, got to greedy and lost most of their culture/technology because of this. Quarians created the Geth All quarian cities are now ruin with mechanical gardians still active

I think the OP didn't talk about her appearance but about general traits of Quarians. They seem to be like "space dwarves". Most dwarves have lost their ancient kingdom (Tolkien, Warhammer, ...) and have a knack for tech & engineering.

That fits well to Quarians. Besides that, they don't look like dwarves.

Tali's accent could never be mistaken for Nordic.

They lack the life expectancy of elves especially compared to asari who live to a 1000
They fits that stature as quarians are smaller then humans
They fit the outfit (full body armor and caring weapons)

I believe it's debatable for no other reason then that nobody did it before

Jeebus another talimancer trollbaiting thread. Cthulu's mom is going to hate you for keeping her son up.

But to address your question, neither. I think Quarians are unique.

True but her accent remains a accent elves generally speak flawless. Dwarf accent has been depicted as nordic and scottish mostly but they remain accents compared to the flawless english elfs speak

Why make the correlation at all? Why would Tali be anything other than Quarian? Elves, dwarves, quarians... all fictional species... what is your point in this comparison? An elf is an elf a dwarf is a dwarf a quarian is a quarian... plain and simple.

Also you have a very narrow scope of fantasy races as well... dwarves and elves can vary immensely depending on the mythos you're looking it... be it Tolkien's world, D&D or any countless hundred variations on conventional medieval fantasy... there is no "norm" for any of those races... you're only comparing it to the types you know... for every dwarf in a mythos that you know of that likes machines, I can point you to one that doesn't - same for elves.

If you really want to mess with semantics then they're all just funny looking humans anyway.

d*mnit I refuse to accept Tali as a dwarf. I refuse, OP. Your argument is invalid.

Also, going a bit out of the beaten track:
- DA Dwarves practice ancestor worship, so do/did the Quarians...
- DA Dwarves name remarkable members of their species Paragons a still living Ancestor, conversely Quarians wanted their most remarkable ancestors to "live in death" as VIs/AIs...

All in all, if you have to compare them to fictional races Quarians seem to have (speaking very generally) some physical characteristics of elves (slim, angular and somewhat graceful looking) with a dwarf mindset/culture...

EDIT: To clarify, I too think they are actually a unique race, not camparable with the others suggested, it was just an interesting experiment in finding general paralels, that's all... :P

She might very well be a dwarf, as the visor and suit could hide her beard from us.

Well she is short but Dwarfs are generally kind of short and pudgy (like the volus). She's skinny and petite (like elves are generally portrayed)

She's a hybrid, naturally. The correct terminology is "Dwelf". Physically she has more of an elvish resemblance, but the hunger for machinery and overall tech-y nature deems her part of the Dwelven race.

Well, quarians fits some traits of dwarves, but appearance isn't something that they have in common. The rest is true at least.

In terms of appearance, extremely un-dwarf like. However, I do agree that the quarian's character traits are similar to a dwarfs. What with thier love of machinery and all. I also really hope this isn't a thread that was made with the intention of getting Talimancers to argue, as that would be childish.

Mmmmm...another thing...

Why male quarians have a different helmet? Because their long beard. Know everything makes sense.

On tali's appearance she wheres a full (metal) body suit at all times offcourse it's keeping her alive. But there is also a cultural factor in there.
Also Tali is the only character who at all times will wears a weapon (the knife in her boot).

This alone should suffice to drop the "extremely" un-dwarf like.

For the elf part despite the full body armor she manages to show of her figure trough it and show clear signs of gender not normally seen by dwarves.

Tali is a purple space night elf with silver eyes. This is confirmed via Twitter.

Though, if she took off her mask and Stumpet Rakingclaw's beard fell out, I would stand up and applaud, wiping away a tear. Such beautiful trolling only happens once every seven times to the worlds align.

Also, don't most dwarves in fiction live 200-1000 years? I was quite shocked that Dragon Age didn't follow the general "dwarves live either 2-3 human lives or a millenium, elves live either a millenium or are immortal" rule. DA may be unique there.
