I have to disagree with you OP and alot of others it seems. With the exception of the Benezia/Rachni Queen confrontations I found everything about Noveria boring! It's one of the few parts of ME1 I always find myself rushing through to get it over with.

I find the side missions boring and pointless (Opolds package, WTF was that!?!) the level design quite flat and static and none of the characters interest me at all! I'm afraid even Gianna annoys the crap out of me.

*braces for flaming*

*Edit*

I forgot to say what my favourite mission was! It's Ilos for me, I love the atmosphere, the music and the talk with Vigil is the most Epic moment out of all of ME1 & 2 for me, although the Soverign talk is a very close second.

I think I've made a pretty good case, notwithstanding, based on key dramatic and narrative elements - especially the Rachni Queen encounter, which for sheer brilliance of writing, staging and drama (voicing,  setting, content) is,
I will assert the best done scene of the entire series. - nearly steals the show from Benezia's death and the Mu relay revelation.   All the lines about "musics" and "colors" and "we are the mother" could have so easily come off forced, lame, corny and trite - but wow did they nail it!  If there's an oscar for video-game voice-acting, this is my nominee:

"This one serves as our voice..."

I thought that was an amazing scene. One of my favorites of the series. I find the rachni queen fascinating. The way she tries to translate her thoughts into speech through the dying asari was especially neat to watch. One of the truly "alien" aliens of the series.

Suicide mission, by a mile. Virtually everything in it from the moment you go through the relay till the credits roll is pure joy, and a fantastically satisfying reward for playing the game properly. Destroying the collector vessel, managing your team, slaughtering the collectors, sticking it to TIM and feeling like a bloody legend for leading a suicide mission without a single casualty, and laying the groundwork for 3 with the Reaper reveal at the end.

It's not quite perfect of course, the Reaper embryo was too simplistic to fight, and getting everyone out alive would have been more of an achievement if it was a bit harder, even if it just involved more specialist choices and more direct intervention like preventing the tech from being steamed in the pipes, but those are really more things that could have been better than were bad.

After that I'd say LOTSB, Ilos/Citadel end battle, Talis LM and Overlord would make up my top 5

I am personaly fond of Feros, I just have a thing about saving people, and in Feros` case your saving a whole colony which is why I am also fond of Bring Down the Sky DLC, then of course the Batttle of the Citadel, you can see of course a pattern that I prefer ME1 over ME2, I too am hoping Bioware can top them all in ME3.

P.S good topic btw O.P

Would be unfair and off-topic of me to start a Gianna thread, since my views are indelibly colored by her further development on Illium.   I will only state again that compared with Miranda and Ashely, ([human] women are surprisinlgy, still underrepresented]),  she is far and away the most three-dimensional. (GMag alert!  Dat not be dissing dem buttcheks deys in 3 mebbe 4 deminsshns tbh.)   But you're free to be pissed by her - lots of others retch at the the blue-eyed moony cow antics of a certain asari...

Would have to disagree here - the info we get from Vigil is vital and fascinating no question - but the fact that (on a first playthrough esp) the squad sits through a 20+ minute ramble and backstory while we are RACING to get to the conduit in time just makes no sense.  Breaks the pace of the action and the story arc - we needed the short version here.

(similar case if you get the IFF too early) - "Oh darn!  My crew's been abducted to the cannery.  I'll just tool around the galaxy for while, then maybe go get 'em when I'm feeling up to it." - (out of character for Shep Ren or Para, imo)

Grrrrr, I hate quoting an entire post but I can never get the hang of the snippy thing, Anyhoo!

I suppose it is kind of fun making Opold squirm but all that running for 500 credits and no real reward, ummmm, never seems worth it to me and just seems to drag, Bioware can and do have way better side quests, it just seemed pointless to me!

I agree that ME needs more strong female representation as I'm not a fan of Miranda or Ashley either or Liara come to think of it! Jack, Kasumi and Samarra are fantastic but I'll not get off topic. I just don't feel there's enough about Gianna's character at the moment to really care about her, if they explore her character further in ME3 then great, maybe I'll come to love her. Also she doesn't do herself any favours by throwing herself at me on Illium, my Manshep don't like girls! Posted Image

The break of pace on Ilos is a fair point and it doesn't really make sense that they would stop for so long. But this is one of the moments for me when i saw the true epicness of the ME universe so I'm probably a little bias and willing to look the other way at the inconsistency.

I unfortunately fell victim to the lack of crew rescuing on my first ME2 play through, I only did a couple of missions afterwards and then had endure getting chewed out by Chakwas after watching Kelly get minced, not fun!

I don't know about best but my favorites are Stolen Memory (Kasumi's LM) and The Ardat-Yakshi (Samara's LM). Why? Because as an Infiltrator, those missions are the only ones that let me infiltrate! Arrival was going to make that list with its initial emphasis on stealth but then the first guard instantly noticed me when I cloaked... behind a 6 foot high crate... 20m away.<_< Tearing through the rest of the enemies after that was fun enough so honorable mention at best.

Those are both great missions, and in the case of Kasumi's mission, I wish it had gone on a little longer before veering into combat.

Good call on both counts.

- quick tip - just find the text you want  type in the <bracket"quote"closebracet>  in the beginning and with  forwardslash at the end, delete what you dont want and ouila!

all that running for 500 credits and no real reward

Inamorda or Anoleis will give you more...and more ways to screw Opold..

I just don't feel there's enough about Gianna's character at the moment to really care about her

just a quick rundown

Gianna is bright, intelligent, competent and attractive, a self-made career gal from a working class upbringing who is completely comfortable moving among the rich and famous.  She's not at all impressed with power or position - and takes a special satisfaction in hanging arrogance and abuse of power out to dry.

She got a sardonics sense of humor, obviously feels on equal terms with anyone, including Shep.  Gianna is the only one ballsy enought to deflate Shep's exalted sense of purpose - "...I know my work can't possibly be as important as your, fate of the galaxy, trillions of lives..." i'm paraphrasing but you get the point.

She's got her own, very real, very believable, and quite interesting life, nothing to do with "saving-the-galaxy-from-unimaginable-horror."    She's in charge of her own life, taking herself on a self-made adventure through the galaxy.  And that quick peck on the cheek was more for sheps benefit than hers.  She more than any other [not godhelpus Verner] is the representative that makes humanity worth saving.

...and my shep would be a lucky dude indeed to land a catch like her.

I liked the level design in the colossus fight in Tali's recruitment mission. Story-wise, Mordin or Legion's LM.

nor i, Its a good, big mission, no question - interesting use of the HH but some of the Rosalie follow-ons do as well - lotsa good action, but apart from the final [overthetop, imho] scene, not much drama.  I think they could

PS:  Shaders work great!  Thanks.

Me neither. Everything good about it got worn out on the first playthrough for me.

LotSB is far better in my opinion. At least the cab served a purpose.

The Hammerhead was just used for padding in Overlord.

Well, there's the Hammerhead, the amazing atmosphere and sceneries, a decent plot that would work just as well in ME as it would in any other sci-fi verse and last but certainly not least: Simon Templeman.

I think the best mission was by far Mordin's. It was great to see his mindset slowly change throughout the mission. It also had the best Renegade interrupt ever!!!
Clan Wyrloc rep: We will cure the genophage and return the Krogan to their....
Shepard: You talk to much.

I take that interrupt even when I'm playing my mostly Paragon main Shepard :)

Yeah, at this point I don't even consider it Renegade, just necessary badassery!!

Well, tbh those things you listed didn't really jibe with me personally (except for the atmosphere of Prometheus Station, of course). The scenery looked alright, but more like it belonged in Star Wars than in Mass Effect.

This is my opinion. :)

in ME1 my favourite is Ilos/Battle for citadel... In 2 it's the Suicide Mission. Overall I think that the suicide mission edges it, but vigil is the most powerful moment in the series for me.

Eden Prime? That was pretty neat.

I'd also have to give an honorable mention to the Citadel mission where you're looking for evidence against Saren. Even though it's a crucial point in the story, there are a bunch of different routes and detours you can take towards completing it.

For me in Me 1:

Ilos/battle for the Citadal also wins outs, with Virmire being a very close second.

in ME 2;
1. The Suicide Mission - the whole game was about about surving it and the music during the mission itself is bloody brilliant.
2. LOSB - Hagalaz/SB fight - awesome use combat mechanics and possibly for the entire game( including the vasir half) the best/most BADASS music in the series( have it downloaded onto my pc n Droid X). The dialog is awesome as well atleast between Shepard and Liara particularily the end when you can have her up to Normandy and we FINALLY get to know Shepard's feelings on things...
3. LOSB - First Half/Vasir fight n confrontation - same as above including a pretty cool chase sequence. Also the awesome dialog/banter going on between Shepard n Liara is hilarious.

edit: the most annoying but still very good mission has to be the derelict reaper mission...
