I don't think I'll ever understand all the love for Overlord.
For me anyway, it's the emotional aspect. In all the games I've played, this is the only quest I will never, ever be able to play again. My boyfriend does it for me, while I'm out of the house. I've never been so affected by a game, and I'm the type of crazy who gets seriously emotionally invested in stupid things like that - my brain doesn't have the switch that goes "no need for hysterics, this is fake", which is also why I can't watch horror movies.
Anyway, especially having a little sister with special needs, I cried like a moron and felt yucky for days after I played Overlord. As much as I kinda wish I'd never seen it... I know that's good writing at work. With some pretty hard-hitting visuals thrown in.

Lair of the Shadow Broker - Really, really awesome, getting the chance to fight with Liara in breaking into the most awesome secret base ever and laying a much-deserved smackdown on the Shadow Broker. Bonus points for literally beating the crap out of him with your fists. Honestly, this DLC is best done with Tali and Garrus in your group (and either one for the actual invasion of the base), for extra ME1 awesomeness.
Battle at the Citadel - This one is more for personal reasons. I did nearly everything I possibly could (save for a single didn't-realize-until-too-late misplaced talent point) to upgrade my Assault Rifle to be the most badass bullet hose I could make it (Anti-Geth ammo, the best heat sink, and a stabilizer), and it was immensely rewarding to just casually walk through the level and blowing to hell anything and everything that tried to stand in my way.

Uh... okay, thanks for sharing.

Oh, the mission! Right, of course.

Do you mean the bit at the end when there's bits of metal stuck in his eyes? It was visually striking, but one disturbing image doesn't make a whole mission for me.

Nor for me. I said it was the my personal emotional reaction to the mission that makes it stand out in my mind. It's not my favorite mission, but for me it's the most memorable. My favorite mission is probably Ilos, followed by the battle on the Citadel.
The metal bits in the eye and the big tubes through his arms and everything doesn't hurt the whole "memorable" thing, though.

Seriously? I really liked Overlord, and I laughed at the it's gonna blow line from Shep in the Thane loyalty mission, and the shot in the dark for the passcode at Peak 15 in ME1.

Oh, and of course, the logical extreme of Shepard's willingness to punch out any and everything.
All that said, there's nothing that beats the music of the Battle of the Citadel, and my initial visceral reaction to the ending. So that's a very close second.

Thats true. First time is never a walk in the park and have a picnick though.jreezy wrote...
The biggest thing I have against the Collector Base mission is the fact that it's the furthest thing from a suicide mission. Too much of a walk in the park in terms of difficulty.LiveLoveThaneKrios wrote...
Suicide Mission.
Its why I even bother too make 18 ME2 play throughs.
Its quite a challenge, and it's great experimenting too test what characters can do certain things, and prove others wrong (Example: Miranda led both teams and didn't die. Most times your supposed to use a different character. I proved people who said that (people I mean my brother) )
And see which ones fail.
It's fun, you become an adrenaline freak, you get a heart-attack from your heart racing, and so on.
Great experiences.
On Insanity though, thats never a fun time.

I have fun with the mission but it just has too many seams showing for me to call it the best.

The final mission on the citadel in ME1 is still my favorite. It has some of the more awe-inspiring imagery, level design and music that I've seen in a game. The suicide mission was too much on rails, not to mention...
"A human reaper"
I have to admit the way the big "human reaper" reveal was handled made me chuckle. That scene felt rushed and cheesy. I enjoyed the cutscenes after though.

1. Ilos. Meeting Vigil was absolutely my favorite sci-fi moment in the series. All the build-up with squad banter, creepy ambience, etc. was masterful.
2. Noveria. I really felt the pressure and fear of the unknown all throughout this mission. Plus, even on a generally Renegade playthrough, I froze up when it came time to make the Rachni decision.
3. Virmire. Second-best sci-fi moment in the series with Sovereign. Honestly, the combat was forgettable compared to other missions.
4. Halstrom for Tali's recruitment mission. Offered a chance to reunite with a previous party member (already a plus, same reason why I love Garrus' recruitment mission), but offered some different gameplay challenges (avoiding the sunlight) and awesome music.
5. Ship exterior battle from Lair of the Shadow Broker. Incredible environmental ambience and great squad dialogue.
6. Illium for Thane's recruitment mission. Great music, and a fun battle to the top of a tower. Also, excellent music here too.
Hard to pick which is really better after the top three. Suffice it to say Mass Effect 3 has a really high bar to reach.

Ah, most memorable. I see. Yes, I'll certainly not forget David's face for a while, even if it did (or maybe because it did) kinda scream "A Clockwork Orange" at me.

Ilos: It was simply awesome when meeting Vigil. The whole mission was interesting and surprising.
Virmire: Sovereign + fighting Saren + sacrifice of crew member = epic
Suicide Mission: High pressure the first time.
Normandy Crash Site: very simple, yet, the first time, it was sooo nostalgic. I barely wanted to leave the planet
Feros: It was creepy, everyone at the colony acting weird, and it was a key aspect of the main story. I personally think we'll find out that the reapers are mechanized Thorians.
Project Overlord: It was creepy as hell.

In ME2, there are a lot more missions that I liked playing through than in the first game, but I would have to say that the suicide mission is my favorite, not just in ME2 but in both games, for the same reason as Ilos. Except the suicide mission had better combat, and the parts to chose who does what always made it just a bit more fun.

Just a star? How about 3?someone else wrote...
not a contender but...Normandy Crash site deserves a star just for being there...and the ME1 music
Dang I knew I was forgetting something on my list.
The only thing they could of changed was allowing you to bring a squaddie.
Have Tali or Garrus and have them speak special dialouge.
Hell even pushing Joker in a wheel chair would of been great.
But over all , besides the sad feeling I always get in my stomach.. it was good.
