I am past frustrated.  Everytime I give bioware/EA a chance they let me down.

I have installed ORIGINS via DVD.  I played 3 characters.
I have downloaded AWAKENING from Origins digital download store.

I got the physx issue even though drivers were up to date. So I uninstalled both games and also installed
physx drivers again.

I installed in this order.
ORIGINS                      I did NOT run the game
AWAKENING               I did NOT run the game
PATCH 1.04

After that, I ran the AWAKENING program from the ORIGINS game menu.
It runs the ORIGINS game and shows no signs that I am running the correct program.
So, I create a new character, it wont let me choose AWAKENING campaign, it wont let me
import a character.  It only creates character and starts me at the harrowing in ORIGINS.

I went to the intall directory and found an install AWAKENING executable and I put it on windows
2000 compatible and it failed to run.  I just get an error window with no text in it.  When I go back
to the ORIGINS game launcher it now CHANGED and says I need to re install the game.

I have downloaded 3 times, re installed at least that many, trying different ways. I am so angry right now.

In the origins options, I went to the directory I told it to put downloaded material and my other games are there
but not the expansion.

Also, the origins launcher wont let me uninstall the game, so I had to delete the executable and the expansion dragonage_ep1_eu1.file_crcsc file before I could do anything.
No tips from google and Bioware or EA work.  They practically have no info for the expansion.

I am past angry at EA / Bioware this is driving me crazy I cant use my own purchased software and run it
like any other expansion.  I played NEVERWINTER Nights and their expansions worked flawlessly and it is made by same people.

p.s  the addins xml update fails on install.  There is no file to edit in the install directory. the addins directory is there but not any file mentioned by other posts.
When I run it from the game directory I get error opening file for writing c:\\users\\ash\\documents.
"click abort to stop installation retr or ignore to skip this file"
pressing ignore   I get
addins file=[]
addins folder=[]
no c:\\users\\ash\\documents\\ found. copying over blank addins.xml

Please dont tell me to go to the help pages I ALREADY SAID HAS NOT worked.
Please help

I have had similar issues......I know you are frustrated!!.....can i suggest you do what i do and completely clear ANY trace of the game. Completely!! That means go to your programs and try and bring up the game, if anything shows up delete again......do a restart, then re install the game start from scratch then start by downloading origins, awakening and when completely satisfied with install....then install any add -ons you might wish........then start your game with Origins then Awakening if you wish to skip Origins but be careful you don't load an add-on meant for Origins if your intention is to only play Awakening.........hope that helps....and I'm here if u need??

I have unloaded the game. Then went to registry deleted all signs. Deleted all games in game directory.
Re downloaded awakening. The post from a forum said install in order, Origins, awakening, patch, to make sure not to run game until those are done. I dont need my in game downloads right now, it shouldnt be an issue, once I did all this....the only change is that it runs origins even though I clicked on awakening .....I use the config manager and my awakening key disappeared. This is after I did fresh install. For right now...I go to the game directory and click on the awakening install executable it fails then tells me to reinstall the game... I even used win2k compatibility mode.

Since it is so hard to get help that matches my particular needs, on internet forums. I want to spread the love.
It works.....I found a away.

I just want to kiss the guy that I finally got it working. He was tackling a slightly different issue but it works.

Thanks to this guy and his references (which didn't pull in search within a reasonable page depth, who wants to read past 3 pages? )

DA: Awakening and multiple profiles
By Ron Lugge on March 16, 2010 8:59:15 PM from Impulse Community Forums Impulse Community Forums

Just as a reference, because I'm sure someone else is going to run into the problem, the DA: Awakening installer does not work if you use more than one profile on your computer. It will gladly install the program to the profile you are currently using (say, your administrator) but not any others (like your work / play accounts).

1. I gave up installing in any order. After over 3 installs.....I did not even bother to remove the patch 1.05.

Syntax is as follows:

"{game directory}\\saferun" "{game directory}\\data\\dao_updateaddinsxml.exe" /addins={default profile directory where bioware folder is...no path is needed}\\dragon age\\settings\\addins.xml" /manifest="{game directory}\\addins\\dao_prc_ep_1\\manifest.xml"

For example:

"C:\\Gaming\\Origin\\Dragon Age\\saferun.exe" "C:\\Gaming\\Origin\\Dragon Age\\data\\DAO_UpdateAddinsXml.exe" /addins="BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Settings\\addins.xml"
/manifest="C:\\Gaming\\Origin\\Dragon Age\\addins\\dao_prc_ep_1\\manifest.xml"

Other campaigns option now shows up.

My DLC were already installed, and I haven't tested it for missing text etc, however I am happy I got this far for now. I don't see any reason why it wont work now.
Huggggggs!!!:kissing:
