One thing I wondered, are the Kossith/Qunari naturally that muscular or does it come from the lifeflong training they are gaining, starting in childhood?

I'd say it is inborn, cause the Saarebas' are just as muscular as the Warriors and they probably don't get any kind of training at all.

What is your opinion?

I think kossith are naturally larger and stronger than humans just as humans are naturally larger and stronger than elves.

While they are larger and thus by definition more muscled, remember that these Kossith are bred warriors. Even the Saarebas here, are part of the antaam. While I'd imagine all Kossith looking big and having branches for arms, not all of them are going to look as well sculpted as the gentlemen we've encountered thus far.

The Saarebas have to wear this ridiculous heavy looking collar, chains and cuffs. I think this could be responsible for their muscular build.

Well, by what Sten said, apparently they are physiologically exceptional in the sense that they can last a long time without food or water. (apparently without much muscle atrophy) I wouldn't be surprised if they were naturally muscle-bound also.

Both probably. They are by nature more muscular, and they use it so it grows even more. I think.

Its probably both.

Naturally (through evolution and their genes) they are strong. But of course they still need to practice, fight and train to become strong.

We don't know how Arishok's are picked but I assume the Arishoks are usually the most well trained, fittest and well bred Kossith.

If a Kossith was born outside of Par Vollen though and he just stayed in say Ferelden for all his life then he would probably be pretty weak...he'd be much stronger and capable of fighting than your average peasant human, dwarf or elf but he'd be no where near as big or well trained and muscled as a Qunari Kossith soldier (unless he joined the Ferelden army, or got a fighting job or became a mercenary or something)

EDIT: I hope I didn't offend anyone by using the word evolution...O.O

The Qunari practice selective breeding so it is likely that those drafted into the soldier caste would have been bred to be muscular and strong but then specialist training would then hone this physique to perfect it. A thoroughbred racehorse is bred to be faster than normal horses but without the high level training they will not achieve their full potential.

All Qunari must maintain a strong healthy body through regimens of exercise and good diet, the ben hassrath incur a belt tax on those who are apt to become blubberous. In the quest for perfection no aspect of an individuals development must be overlooked body, mind or soul.

That said we are naturally stronger than the frail little races of the bas, though the dwarves are suprisingly strong for their diminuitive size.

But I guess real thin/bony Kossith don't exist.
(Just like muscular elves and slender Dwarves don't exist:P)

Of course slender Dwarves do exist. We haven't seen one fat dwarf in the entirity of both games!

Not slender !=! Fat ;)
They are not fat, but not slender either, they are stocky.
But that is due to the altitude.

But never mind, it was just a litte comparison.
