MOST JRPG's will have better enviorments than western developed game.

Why?

JRPG's love using detailed and great looking backgrounds.(most anyway). and WRPG's use dark and griity backgrounds to create a sense of "realism".(agian MOST).

I don't think anyone would accuse, say Witcher 2 or Skyrim of being ugly games, or for sacrificing aesthetics to grittiness. You can find good looking games in every genre.

ITT people think you need a new game engine to change art style and quality of art assets.

I am not judging you. I am judging the things you say - which is one big BS. Anyone can see it - anyone but you of course.

You are comparing graphics made for 256 MB ram running system with 256 MB graphics card to something made for modern PC. Wake up dude. It is 2011 now, not 2006.
Stop this nonsense.

ok I said Final Fantasy XIII VERSUS. this is just ffxiii.

Oh, you mean the game that isn't even out yet, and so no one knows what it actually will look like up and running, compared to official "screenshots"?

and this is still better to look at than the Witcher 2.

The actual point i was making was it's not the engine that makes FFXIII look any good (in the spots where it does look decent), because on technical level it's as bad if not worse than DA2 engine -- that's why in the spots where the artists fail, it ends up even worse than DA2. Hence there's no point and no benefit in switching the game engine like you advocated, because such change wouldn't make the next DA game look any better.

No. Matter of opinion. Witcher 2's graphics are also much better than anything a PS3/360 can render please stop with the fanboy posts.

I'm not an engine expert though i agree DA2 was little bit unrealistic in his graphic....i think BW should look at The Witcher 2 to have some sort of stylistical comparison on how a medieaval RPG should looks like:

What's the first? Modded Morrowind? Skyrim? Don't recognize it.

Depends what they're going for.

Stylized works if they abuse it to it's fullest potential and are capable of having more things going on that doesn't burden the system, there's just the problem of the game not abusing the benefits of stylized while "realistic" games tend to have more going on with it and still remaining eye candy.

If they're going to stay with stylized, they better abuse the benefits they gain from it. Otherwise, there's not much point.

just because PC can render high graphics doesn't mean it will look better. thats like saying live Action movies always look better than CGI films. I guess this is all a matter of preference of which you prefer to look at. now lets stop this fanboyism and get back on topic.(what ever it was before)

JRPGS just look too...cute and lame. Its like they are designed to cater to 14 year old girls that have gotten tired of watching My Little Pony.

Okay, I'm now pretty sure it's modded Morrowind. The image itself immediately reminded me of Morrowind, the west side. The atmosphere and mood, like, and lay of land. But the quality of detail is superior to Morrowind of course, which threw me off.

However, I just discovered the barrier around the ash mountains. It's quite visible in the picture. So, since about nothing else looks like that, it's Morrowind.

I don't want to spam the page with an image I've already posted elsewhere, but here's a preview of DA3's art style if the "evolution" from DA:O to DA" continued:

http://social.biowar...2900/172335.jpg

Frankly, I wouldn't mind a "cartoony" look, if it was handled properly, aesthetically*, and skillfully. As long as it isn't JRPG for a WRPG game... yes, I'm a WRPG elitist and proud of it!

(*Thank you, Penny Arcade!)

(Seriously, nothing against JRPG. Some of them look beautiful - but DA isn't JRPG and never was. (until DA2, that is...:D))

I also don't want a PC game to look like a badly ported console game. It should be the other way round. (Yes, I'm also a PC elitist!) You may leave the "badly" out when porting to console, of course.

One, I guess.

I can't remember how many different-looking games used the Unreal3 or Quake3 engines back then...

As a matter of fact, as I understand it, DA2's engine is basically DA:O's "Eclipse" engine, slightly modified. It doesn't even have it's own official name. (the internal name is "Lycium"... probably because it's cool to call it differently for a new game, even if it is basically the same... and because werewolves are cool at the moment...)

Yes.

A believable RPG deserves a believable world. DA2 style undermines the impact of a story and turns the game into a meaningless romp.

To me its either look Cartoonish or look really good while 'Realistic'.

Dragon Age: Origins' Realistic was nearly Cartoonish, IMO. So I preferred Dragon Age II's cartoonish. But if BioWare can pull a Witcher 2/Skyrim on us, I'm not holding them.
