yeah dam right if Bioware wants to do a bunch of ass kissing to the ME 1 / VS fans Its high time to do it for us ME 2 fans as well .

Why do you think there are like two warring groups, ME1 fans and ME2 fans?

Mostly people here are just Mass Effect fans...

It's definitely possible to do it, but with a 1.5 year development cycle, probably not. Besides It seems as if they just want to finish off ME3 and take a break from the franchise, which I can understand. It gets boring when you're designing one specific style for a long period of time.

If that's the case then they should've given it a rest. Take a break for a few years and only then return to Mass Effect when they feel they can do it justice.

I waited more than seven years between The Longest Journey and Dreamfall. I'll probably have to wait even longer for Dreamfall Chapters, if that will even be released at all (five years after Dreamfall, development hasn't even started yet). I wouldn't mind waiting longer for ME3 if it meant a better game, either by giving them more time to work out the details, or by giving them time for a break to restore their creative energy.

Honestly, I got this feeling the second time I played through ME2. ME2 was really extended filler. I know a lot of the apologist will try to justify it by saying how the "characters were the story", but really when it comes down to it the only real advancement made in the plot was the Arrival DLC.

Yup.

Those "characters are the story" people might get a shock in ME3 when all their possibly-dead characters are sidelined.

They won't sideline Tali, Garrus or Mordin.

Tali and Garrus are from ME1! Their frontline roles in ME3 can hardly be held up as evidence that ME2 wasn't filler.

It's a good thing I wasn't actually disputing your point then.

With ME2 fans like you I'd be reluctant to cater to certain characters if I was BioWare.

The problem was not that everyone was killable, but that they all were savable. If BW decided to canonically kill off one or two beyond your control then that would be acceptable. Thane would have been tragic, but didn't have much time to live anyways. So they could have cultivated their crop of new squadmates down to an acceptable number. They feared negative fan outcry.

Of course the true shooting in the foot was the ME VS and Liara being unlikable in ME2. These were people they built-up in the first game and then tarnished a bit. Then they get you liking too many new characters. Not a good strategy IMO.

Yeah it seems like they wanted to just sweep Liara and the VS under the rug for some reason.

Well, Bioware, like it or not. This the the rut you've driven yourself into. You had to diverge from Reapers to killing a terminator while risking 50 squadmates. You shot yourself in both feet, and now your series is crippled because you don't know what to do with it.

Dig yourself out of it. By that, finish what you started. Don't "forget" and retcon the crap out of the Mass Effect story any more.

If the leak is any indication, they won't.

If you've read the leak, can you tell me if it's on par with Bioware's previous games. I managed to stop myself from reading, but I need to know if it's at their quality of storytelling ( No spoilers please!)

It's a Dragon Age II's level of storytelling. At least the parts I read.

Hah, so after all even the creators themselves miss the ME1 style. It's greatness, vast spaces and the feeling when you explored the big Citadel. After all these years they feel ME2 was comercialized and ME1 was something special and unique. Hope they can make up for it in ME3, at least in a little part.

ME2 was quite a blunder but it can be repaired by Bioware really jampacking in the effort to live up to their 'continual' story in Mass Effect 3. If I load up my savegame into ME3 and find the world has rapidly reacted to my choices, it earns my applause.
If it simply loads up from Mass Effect 2 like: oh, Tali died. This somehow makes going to the Floatilla void. 'cut out entire quest chain'. Then ME3 would have failed. I want to see unique scenes for every major choice you made in both games before.
I lost Legion in my first playthough. If I boot that into ME3, I fully expect him to show up at one point again. Legion is a Geth, and therefore: is immortal. If his platform in destroyed, its simply downloaded from backups into another one... starting to think about it, if you lose Legion in ME2, you'll most likely meet a Geth just like him except he lacks the memories from after the Reaper ship, those having perished on the destroyed platform.

I can't take you seriously when you say something like that, unless you've written anything that's seen the light of the day that's just foolish to say.

Whatever boss.
