Hey everyone, so I've been wondering. from a lore perspective, what the general time frame is for ME2. By that I mean; about how long does it take Shepard to go from being resurrected by Cerberus to assaulting the Collector base? Clearly this could vary depending on the amount of side quests you do but generally speaking, are we talking weeks, months, or years?
I ask because I like to play with a sense of urgency. The game is obviously designed to let you take your time but I like to entertain the idea that Shepard really must act quickly in order to keep the Collectors from abducting more colonists. Similarly, if you play Arrival before the SM you know that the Reapers are in the galaxy! This can't be the time to deal with Jacob's family issues!
anyways, I'm thinking the main campaign probably takes 4-6 months but what do you all think? Have any of you noticed any clues in-game that might give us an idea?

I always negligently assumed it was a matter of weeks, perhaps 1-2 months. From what I understand travel from major planets to Relays only takes a matter of hours, I'd factor in days for the more distant ventures.
Take though for example Horizon; the Illusive man informs you it's under threat of Collector attack, and by the time you arrive the harvest is about 85% complete. From what I understand the Collectors are extremely efficient, and I can only imagine it would take them a matter of hours to clear out a colony of that size. So from the time it took you to receive the heads-up, to the Normandy actually reaching Horizon could only (in my opinion) take a few hours at most.
I always tried to do missions in an efficient order, not having to visit a planet more than once, but I feel like the game-world wouldn't really take into account whether you visited the citadel once or seven times.
I couldn't see the timeframe being 6 months, but it's possible that's because I'm detached from the scope of the collector attacks. I'm only truly aware of those that Cerberus mentions formally, and even those that are casually mentioned by Goldstein, Hadley and Matthews, such as Farris Fields don't feel like they've actually happened. So in my books it feels like it's only been a matter of weeks, more-so because the abduction of colonists and the interest the alliance has in keeping frontier colonies safe had 2 years during Sheps' "downtime" to take fruition.

Personally, I would put it between 1-2 months depending on the completeness of the game. I figure you would do around one mission per day, so to recruit 10 more people and gain their loyalty, plus side missions somewhere around 50 missions to include travel and such. You could say it takes longer or shorter depending your thoughts of how far you travel and how long a mission lasts. For instance, in Tali's loyalty mission the court starts talking about no info and you must be dead when you get back, yet last game only took 6 minutes to fight, so there has to be extra time involved...

No reason for it to take more than a few days if you dont want it to. All you have to do is factor in how long you think the FTL travel actually takes, and then add that to your gametime. From ME1 It seems citadel to final planet takes a few hours with 1st gen tech.
