I have to say that this doesn't shock me at all. Kotaku has been right about plenty of other stuff before. And just as some have already said, everyone was saying the Mass Effect multiplayer was false as well, and we see what happened there.

I also have to say that EA is definitely behind this because if you read the similar article at G4 about EA brass putting pressure on Visceral Games to "expand" the Dead Space series to a wider audience..........I'm sorry, I just reread it and it says they were commanded to go bigger. Now the rumor is that they are working on an FPS, a space sim, and an adventure type game. I love how they phrase it too. Gotta love that second paragraph.

"Wider audience" is the new black.

Remove the cinematics and voice acting (not just PC voice acting, but NPC voice acting)...bring back the little sprites for your PC.  Bring back all that dialog (when you don't have to pay VAs, you can write more dialog and do more with the story).

But they definitely moved on from that...oh well.

They have very much moved on from that.  I'd be asking for almost no VA and very few cinematics (important story cut scenes I have no problem with voice and pre-rendered, non-game engine graphics) for my cRPGs, but that style is as dead (or relegated to small indie developers) as the "create your whole party" cRPGs.

It's funny that people seem to forget that DAO was going to have multiplayer but it was cut because of the console versions. Ignorance is bliss I see.

Wasn't DA originally going to be much more like NWN too? I don't think they ever planned to have the kind of deathmatch type multiplayer which is being proposed here. Co-op in a BG2 sort of way would be one thing, but the MP as rumored is something else entirely.

This sounds just like EA really and fits with everything else they've been doing as of late. TOR= we need to beat WoW! BF3= We need to beat CoD! Now its Dead Space = we need to beat Uncharted! Its all completely reactionary and a knee jerk to what other people are doing.

The problem is that the more these games get diluted and stretched thin in some attempt to appeal to everyone, they simply become a jack of all trades master of none. I want damn good single player party based tactical RPGs out of DA. If I want giant multiplayer action I'll go to Battlefield. If I want massive open worlds I'll go to Bethesda.

Tacked on multiplayer never works out well.

Video games, movies, TV shows, etc... when you try to be everything to everyone, you end up being nothing to anyone.

Also, other than Apple, I can't think of a company that succeeded via the "Me too!" method of product development (and Apple succeeded by making people *think* that Apple was a great innovator while actually cherry-picking ideas from elsewhere and dumbing them down -- ie, through success in marketing and image.)

It's not the same game over and over though.  I think where people are stuck is that usually when you have a successful product (In this case your best selling game ever) you don't completely revamp it on the next installment.  Usually you completely revamp something if the previous one was a failure.

People want DA:O with tweaks, right?

I want BG2 with tweaks.  It was a successful product.  I actually wish DA:O was like BG2 with tweaks.  Remove the cinematics and voice acting (not just PC voice acting, but NPC voice acting)...bring back the little sprites for your PC.  Bring back all that dialog (when you don't have to pay VAs, you can write more dialog and do more with the story).

But the two aren't comparable.  They didn't make BG3 and completely revamp it for no reason, they made a new IP.  With Dragon Age, which again (best selling game ever) they did a 180 on the same IP for reasons people just can't understand.

I mean what was the meeting like.

"Next let's talk about the Dragon Age IP."
"Origins was critically acclaimed, and our best selling game ever" :o:wizard:

"We need to revamp it, completely remake the game," :o:mellow::blink:

"Are you sure sir?"

"Yes, and have it out in 18 months"

the frostbite 2 engine would be great for da3 because if we are going to see how our choices from da2 are reflected back at the game when there is going to be a templar - mage war it would the ideal engine for the game, for example burning down a circle tower or a town. it might be possible for da3 to use frostbite 2

I love how EA's all "Dear devs, your current games just don't appeal to enough people, YOU fix it!". Well EA, maybe you should just market these games better, instead of looking to put the blame for 'lower than expected' sales on everyone but yourself.

They did the same with Mass Effect.

It's hardly surprising.

Their games will evolve with the times regardless if it's the same IP or not.

It would make sense that they would come out with something like this for consoles. I mean anyone who has been playing the Facebook game of DAL would understand.

I for one would love something like DAL on my PS3, except just with better graphics, story, grouping and everything else.

I still think a DA MMO would be nice in the future.

These publishers are so retarded. They think that because something is multiplayer it's going to sell big. What the **** is happening to the Game Industry? And the fact that people keep supporting it....well, prepare to be dissapointed for the future.

Yeah, the DAL game is about as "canon" as what I would expect of a Dragon Age board game. Because that's basically what it is.

Oh, you drew the red card! You have to go back to the Gumdrop Forest!

I don't mean to downplay DAL, its fun for what it is. But an MMO would (NEED TO) be much more complicated and much more grounded in the Dragon Age world. Or else be set it a previous Blight or something.

Will wait for the official announcement.

If it is stand-alone, meh. Not interested. If a inherent part of DA3, I'll not buy it.
Simple enough.

IF they really did multiplayer, the best thing would be for your friend(s) to just be able to hop into battle and take control of one of your companions.

I still think the Dragon Age universe is perfect for an MMO. Theres so many different areas in the world to explore and have MMO set stories for them.

@yusuf perfect just what everyone wanted DA3 The Apocalypse (subtitled the Mage/Templar War); complete with explosions: battle the mages, or the templars, battle each other, "whatever it takes", get ready to smackdown.

i dont know if you meant that sarcastic but anyways...I will take that as a yes <_< ;) still if u meant that sarcastic its pretty obvious that da3 will be about the mage-templar war

When the story is good and if they make the graphics better (forstbite 2 for example) i would even swear to buy 4 copies of the game Make it happen bioware!! the only thing which would distract me from da3 would be if they would use the same art stle as in da2

Dragon Age Legends is like playing a game from 1993. I will NEVER understand the appeal of it.

Keep in mind this is a rumor until you hear it from someone more believable than "an insider".

Usually I do not put much stock in these kinds of rumors, but the multiplayer rumor mill for ME3 comes to mind (and this is so close to that time-wise as well).  Casey Hudson orginally said there would not be multiplayer in ME3.  Now there is.  And given the direction of DA2 from DA:O, I'm inclined to believe that there will be multiplayer for a future Dragon Age title.

So how many posts left until someone gives us the standard "but it's different teams for different games" bull$#!+ drooling fanboy response to comparisons between the courses of the two franchises?

Last warning to keep it civil, and cut out the cursing.

Referring to those who disagree with you as 'drooling fanboys' is not acceptable. Nor is 'cleverly' censoring your cursing by typing symbols instead of letters for part of the word.

In the land of hypothetical what-ifs: if it's true, then don't play it and complain to your heart's content if the single-player campaign sucks. Your problem is solved. If the single-player campaign doesn't suck, then is there really a problem even if there is multiplayer of some sort? The only reason I can see to level complaints at this future DA3 game is if the single-player experience is lackluster.

Back to work and then to Skyrim if I have time - a place where the only vaguely whingy person I'll have to listen to is Lydia. Actually, I won't! After the ten millionth time I heard her put-upon sounding "I'm sworn to carry your burdens" line, I left her behind to guard my house. It started to remind me of the constant dull and repetitive whining over every little thing on the BSN. I'm currently traveling with Farkas. He's so very agreeable and non-annoying.
