Kotaku just announced a rumor that multiplayer is coming.

Even if this is completely untrue it surely heralds the next round of the popular game: "Will there be multiplayer?" I'm still burnt out after the ME3 fiasco.
All I ask the marketing team is that if this is true, just tell us as early as possible. No playing coy, no saving it up as special feature XYZ. Don't leave it up in the air for months. Please?

This is really all I ask from BioWare, or any major game developer for that matter. Don't lie to your customers so that they're "surprised" when you reveal your Big New Feature. If it's in the game, say so. Not ready to tell yet, or maybe haven't decided if it'll be in the final game? Then say nothing. Denying over and over and suddenly confirming is the only thing that angered me about ME3's co-op mode.

This rumor came up for DA:O and DA II as well. It will not die.

On one hand i dont like this idea very much until i see some more of it. (same thing with ME3, hated at first, but now for what i saw, looks ok, just some few things still botters me)
On the other hand, dude, i mean dude! i wanna see DA in Frostbite 2.

Just, no. After DA2 what the franchise needs is another Origins. By that I mean a rich single player experience that takes the spotlight off the franchise and convinces fans that BioWare are listening to feedback. Too much experimentation of this sort will kill Dragon Age.

Pretty much how I feel.

Big deal if DA3 has MP. While I don't care for it eprsonally, MP has been a huge part of BIO games since their inceptions. Only PC/console BIO RPGs not to have were JE 9while I liked it was BIO's least popular RPG) and KOTOR which was overrated. MP in BIO game is not new.
It's also hialrious that many of the same peiople who supposedly 'wrote off' BIo after the 'horrible' DA2 and vowed to never buy another BIO game are amongst the group whining about potential MP in DA3... Why should it matter to you? You weren't going to buy it anyways.
Just so weird.

Bioware said the same about multi-player in ME3 and look where we are now on that front. Accordingly, I find it a lot more difficult to put trust in statements like these than I did a year ago.Chris Priestly wrote...
Keep in mind this is a rumor until you hear it from someone more believable than "an insider".
Games don't need multi-player to be successful. Skyrim is proof of that. DA:O was proof of that. I'd like to see more of that level and quality of content - or better - in Dragon Age 3.
EDIT: Mind you, I'm not one of the people who was all up in arms about ME3 multi-player like it was the end of the world. I expect that I'll play and enjoy it. But I would have preferred the extra resources to go towards SP. I don't think that keeping a game solely SP has ceased to be a viable market strategy. If anything, the sales of SW:TOR are being bolstered by lots of people buying an MMO for the SP content; it's being marketed as an MMO with the story-telling strength of a SP Bioware RPG. Doesn't that tell us something about what a great asset Bioware has in its reputation for great narrative, setting, and characters in SP games?

And they just managed to get the entire story of MW3 before it was announced, along with screens, a giant Arkham City spoiler and more. MhmRojahar wrote...

These publishers are so retarded. They think that because something is multiplayer it's going to sell big. What the **** is happening to the Game Industry? And the fact that people keep supporting it....well, prepare to be dissapointed for the future.
If people buy it, then it does sell?
I don't get what you're trying to say here.
Are you mad people are buying things you don't like?

After reading the article, it sounds like this will be either a downloadable game unto itself or some sort of addon. If it's true at all. I'm really not worried.Apollo Starflare wrote...

BG2 had MP and that game didn't suck.AlexXIV wrote...
Well but logic dictates that if they had not cut the MP they would have had to cut something else instead. I think that's what people are concerned of. That the MP feature goes to the expense of single players. I for one don't use MP most likely. So it adds nothing but probably subtracts something for me.Mr.House wrote...
It's funny that people seem to forget that DAO was going to have multiplayer but it was cut because of the console versions. Ignorance is bliss I see.

Yes. While I know BioWare's big thing is "Any attention is good attention!" the wishy washy politician half truths and dicking around with semantics annoys more than anything. And after ME3's denials, its not like people are going to buy into anything BioWare says unless its a firm, absolute YES or NO to whether they're doing some sort of DA multiplayer.

And BG2 was made over 10 years ago in an era when adding some simple co-op mode wasn't as big a deal as having a brand new multiplayer mode made in an entirely new flashy engine would be. Not to mention that while BG2 had MP, it was never BG2's defining feature or even something that many people touched. BG2 was all about the single player, party based experience first and foremost.
Atakuma wrote...
Why would they build a multiplayer
component on a separate, far more advanced engine than the game itself?
It would only make sense if they were to scrap their existing engine and
do the whole game on frostbite 2. While I think that could actually be a
good thing, I just don't see bioware discarding their current
engine.
EA is infatuated with Frostbite 2 and think its the panacea for all their problems. Seriously, if you've seen any of the BF3 ads they're laden with how its POWERED BY FROSTBITE 2! The new Need for Speed game was running on it (despite being not that good looking) and I think EA wants to build up Frostbite 2 to being some big marketing thing synonymous with good graphics.
It does seem weird, but look at last year's Medal of Honor game- the single player was made by one team on Unreal and the multiplayer was made on Frostbite by DICE. 2 engines for the SP and MP. So there is a precendent at EA.
