You haven't seen flamewars until you've been on a HP forum. (or an anime one). Good lord those make the flamewars here like a joke.

You shouldn't have to change who you are just to be here and enjoy the forum. Z brings up a valid point. I think it needs to be discussed.bobobo878 wrote...

Kind of easy for the op to say when their favorite character is a permanent squad member, when ME2 fans got shafted. But whatever.
Nah, the character's always been poorly done, but the whole ME2 cast got sidelined. It made that whole game feel like Bioware gave every player a 30 hour long middle finger.

Touche. Again though, I am just as **ssed as other people that certain characters are not squadmates. I didn't even expect Tali to be a squaddie. I would have settled for Garrus, Liara, and Ashley, but that is not the case.

Poorly done to you. Clearly thats not the case for a lot of people. I think Jack has no redeedming qualities. Know what the difference is? I dont **** about it.android654 wrote...

Though frankly I'd take less banter (or no banter at all) if it meant I could have more of my ME2 favs to be permanent squaddies. Banter isn't that important.
This is helped by the fact that I like Shep far more than anyone else though and it looks like Shep gets a nice amount of attention.

Ok, calm down. If I was pissy about Tali returning, wouldn't I be b**ching about Garrus and Ashley/Kaidan and Liara returning as well? The only things I've written about her were in threads about the character not whoi's returning in ME3. So chill.

Sad but true... On the plus side with the end of the trilogy characters like Shepard, Garrus, Mordin, etc... will no longer be key aspect and everyone will move on I guess...jeweledleah wrote...
I agree with you, OP. but apparently for some people, it is impossible to enjoy their favorite character without resorting to bashing others. its like they feel that that by bashing other characters they are making their character sound better or something? I don't understand it, but I do sometimes have enough and attempt to call those people out on it and then... end up escalating the flame war, becasue for a lot of people admitting that they might be wrong in any way is impossible.
my fear.. is that once ME3 is relased.. the fame wars will reach new, epic proportions.
Unfortunately that just means they are just going to find new things over which to hate each other...

Hey none of that here! Feel the looooove man. Seriously, we need to talk about the flaming and how it is affecting the fanbase. Also how people feel about it.

I just... I don't know. I just think this whole thing is childish. I wish we could be a united fanbase, but with trolls and such, I guess not.
I think you brought up an interesting topic of discussion. I think looking at all sides to the discussion is a good place to start. Logical questions start to arise. Like why is hating so easy and so popular? Are we dealing with a generation of cynics? And if so, what does that say about society?
That's actually quite a good point. You want something solved, dealing with the problem at face value head on won't help. Finding out the the reason why people do what they do is what's needed, and could possibly lead, with a little luck to the solution desired. It's a slow process though.

It maybe a slow process but so is turning coal into a diamond. Why wouldn't you want to make that kind of sociological change? What's so wrong with being understanding and accepting versus cynical or judgmental?Arcadian Legend wrote...

Plow probability does not mean impossible. We are talking a system change starting with human behavior. A behavior was propagated by creating a thread to start the discussion. Why not continue to behavior change and ask why is hating so popular?Tom80 wrote...

This is very true. BSN is made up of the people who are fans enough to devote hours of their time to partake in discussion here. Much more..."hardcore" for lack of a better word, fans. So they're going to feel more strongly about the game and characters, and thus hate harder.
