Right. Whatever.

Why would she do that? She's dependent upon you letting her out. Attacking you doesn't facilitate that.

*shrugs*

So you didn't think your post through. I can't say I'm surprised. That seems to be the norm for the opposition.

Also unless you did Virmire before Noveria you don't know much about Indoctrination.

Indeed and the first time I played ME1 Noveria was the first world I did (oh, all that imagined depth...)

Regardless, if the rachni were under Reaper control then Sovereign shouldn't have needed the queen to get the location of the Mu relay. He would already have it. I'm not saying Bioware didn't try to hint at this, but it is hardly concrete.

My fear at the time was this:

The queen may escape the planet but leave some of her offspring behind to wipe out Port Hanshan and surrounding areas. (remember the teaser vid with Noveria being nuked?)

I then feared that she'd hide in the galaxy for decades rebiuilding her species and then start a new war. This is what the turian Council refers to when he says "Our children's children may pay for it".

Definitely things to worry about. It was one of the hardest choices for me in Mass Effect and I still wonder if I made a mistake to keep her.

Not necessarily. The rachni didn't invade Citadel space without stimulus, but responded to a perceived intrusion. Sovereign likely didn't direct that and was probably in hibernation at the time when the supernova knocked the Mu Relay out of alignment.

Okay... I understand your concerns with that. I must ask... did you even listen to her? She seemed sincere.

At one point I thought the Rachni was a different race that was repurposed by the Reapers just like the Protheans were.... (the insect like appearance was what made me think of this)

However it dawned on me that they were breed on Noveria.... in a controlled environment.... you think they would do enough research to find that the Rachni were part synthetic much like the Collectors.

I let her go... even if they start a war... we will win.

And if she's lying, she wouldn't?

She's a bug with unknowable 'tells' possessing a nearly dead body and speaking in faltering speach. Even ignorring the basic premise of 'lying' and how it's 'false sincereity', the difference would be lost.

If he was using the rachni to conduct a war he would need to know the location of all their relays to effectively plan the war.

What Dean said, only he is a lot more kind than I would be.

I'm sorry but thats not a good reason to why you think she wasn't lying her for goodness sake she was talking through a dead Asari.

I don't believe the Rachni Wars were part of the plan at all. They were far too blatant and actually badly damaged the Reapers' efforts by making the Council far more militarily aware and ultimately leading to the turians joining. I believe the rachni had been indoctrinated enough to be hostile but weren't being coordinated by Sovereign at the time.

In a tank rigged with poison to boot.

She had every reason to lie in hopes of getting out of that cage.

Not to mention the whole "sour yellow note" and being susceptible to mind control b/c of their hive mind type deal.

Ok maybe I shouldn't have said goddness sakes I was not trying to be mean about it I was just trying to point out that you can't tell if she's lying or not. In fact I let the Queen go if you didn't see my other posts before.

I don't believe you either. And since we know witches don't exist, that just plays more into my judgement of not trusting your word through the optical cables via lifeless machines.

@Omega4RelayResident: You really don't know if she's telling the truth or not about being peaceful. It's just a risk that Shep takes.

If she's lying you have a powerful new enemy.

If she's telling the truth you have a powerful ally.

It's either a high loss or a high gain.

You know... just gonna look back at this and laugh when the Rachni ride in to save our hides.... I'll cry if they dont.... but the promise she made to help me in ME2 means she was telling the truth at the time.... that to me was the "Oh thank god I didnt make a bad decision back there" moment

I'm hoping it's a mix of both actually .Some of the Rachni are indoctrinated and turn against Shep and Co but most of them aren't so you do get a powerful ally but you also have to deal with fighting them. (Hopefully not an extreme number).

I am hoping brainwashing the geth completely backfires though.

I don't really see what taking a sentence out of context and claiming I meant the exact opposite of what I actually said gains you. Regardless, I believe the rachni were intended to be Reaper tools, yes, but not in an all-out war, given how much Sovereign's plan hinged on infiltration. I suspect they were intended to be reserve agents, basically, possibly with Sovereign running out of juice for this period of wakefulness and it indoctrinating them because they were easy to do. But then it went wrong when the rachni were uncovered too soon, without Sovereign's guidance.

I wouldn't even put it like that.

If she's lying, I can believe a powerful new enemy.

But if she's telling the truth, I wouldn't expect a powerful ally. Not only would a good!Rachni be less, well, expansive (and thus dangerous) than an evil!Rachni, but the friction with other allies (Krogan, Council) who don't share my views would also detract from the raw abilities.

So powerful new enemy, or modest ally.

Tbh just because she had all reasons to lie doesn't mean that she must lie. To suspect someone you just met to lie and never had personal experience with can pretty much be summed up prejudice. I don't say that releasing her was a smart move. But I let her go because she was the last, or probably at least one of the last of her kind. And what the people there did to her and her children was bad enough already.

You have no evidence that she wouldn't be hostile either. In fact, all you have is her word and what you have seen of the rachni up to that point. The best choice would be to leave her in the tank for the council to decide what to do. However, since that's not a choice, it's better to be safe than sorry.
