What Will it Take for ME3 to Surpass GoW3?

It would need to turn into Gears of War 4.

Come on, really?
I want femshep to do some sort of touchdown routine, and I want every male character to weigh approximitely 400 lbs and resemble a gorrilla. Then ME3 surpasses GOW.

Don't concentrate on multiplayer, "dynamic sequences", or using story as a shift from one extended action sequence to another.
Concentrate on the stuff that made Mass Effect so enjoyable to begin with: story, exploration, discovery, conversations, and choices with consequence.

ME has the graphics, the story, the presentation, but it lacks the gameplay. Inject it with Epic's legendary talent for gameplay (Heck I find Infinity Blades 2 more fun than ME2) and you've reached perfection!

Not only is that awesome, but it's obviously emotionally engaging.slimgrin wrote...

Quality is in the eye of the beholder. If you are talking about the combat system alone, I'd say that the use of powers makes ME3 a bit more interesting than GoW3.

I'd rather have the male characters be big buff, tough soldier guys then skinny twerps. Because then their feats of strength are realistic.
Unlike FemShep going hand-to-hand against a bloody Yahg...

I want all my female characters to stroll around in catsuits.
Oh wait, Gears doesn't do that does it? Yep, we have actually found a game that doesn't sexualise female characters and yet you still get badasses like Bernie without going all "femme fatale" on them like with Miranda.

We haven't even played ME3 yet, so there's no point comparing GOW3's gameplay to something we haven't even played yet. Therefore we are safest comparing it to ME2 (to be honest if it makes it fairer we can compare GOW2 instead to ME2), andi f you pit the two games together, GOW still blows ME2 out of the water, and unlike those people (not saying this is you by the way) who are just dismissive and condescending, Gears actually has fun characters and a fairly decent story.

I'll take Mass Effect's character design any day over the action figure proportions of GOW.

Really?
Every male human has the exact same body...same with female humans. And every species has one model.
The character design isn't all that exceptional in ME2. But i'll agree to disagree. It's just a matter of opinion/taste.

When it comes to shooter gameplay (which is the basis of the comparison), it should.

Actually Bioware should be trying to emulate as much of Gears 3's gameplay as possible. Sure, I don't expect them to throw in chainsaws, bayonet charges, fancy executions for downed enemies for every single weapon type and a completely linear storyline where it's impossible to make any decisions or create a character, nor would I want them to (though executions are pretty cool...), but if ME3 could have that same level of mobility during combat and big enough maps to make said mobility possible, and a remotely intelligent AI then I'd be happy.

Couldn't be further from the truth in my case. I just wanted(and I think I mention this before) the improvements to be across the board instead of heavily focused in one area.jreezy wrote...

This seems like a pointless question to me because GOW is a shooter and ME is a RPG. I would certainly hope the combat is better in GOW because that's all the game has. ME is a RPG based around choices effecting the story. If you're picking up ME games hoping they'll blow away GOW's combat then you might be mentally challenged.
1. Mass Effect is a cover shooter with RPG elements. It's not Final Fantasy VII or Arcanum. Don't kid yourself. Also, why shouln't I be able to have fun between point A and point B?
