I hope that nova power has a short cool down, otherwise I can't see myself using it much except as an anti-cover-buster.

Would be so fun to use it in conjunction with charge, but a long cool down would make it more difficult then its worth.

It doesn't have a cooldown at all. It's based on the strength of your shields.

Oh?  That means we can chain together Novas and Charges.  Nova somebody, charge to the next and already have another Nova ready from the shield recharge, then Charge to the next enemy and repeat.

Oh this will be fun.

the new Nova power looks pretty sweet!! My Vanguard Shep is going to be pleased!

just curious.....did they say if Nova is a Biotics-based power? And, will it be unique to Vanguards?

also, did they ever reveal what the Vanguard heavy melee attack is?

Yes it is and yes.
.
No, but you could see it in the leak, there is a gif showing it, I don't have it though. But it's pretty much similar to the soldier but with biotic power.

That'd only work if:

1.  Charge completely replenishes your shields

2.  You're not shot again before you pull it off.

If you could use Nova at any time, that'd be a move worth using more.  But when you "must" be fully chaged (and are fully wiped out afterwards)... it's definitely going to be a move that's used sparingly.

That said, using Nova to ambush advancing people from behind a corner will probably be the Vanguard's most unstoppable advantage in combat scenarios... and perhaps the greatest defensive tactic in Mass Effect.

Also, with the way they've got branching upgrade choices, choosing the upgrade to allow you to recharge shields from charging will probably deny you an upgrade in something like charge cooldown, or

I just realized that they might give all the classes some kind of off-cooldown ability like Nova, although not necessarily using up shields.

Soldiers got their grenades back, I suspect that can be thrown at any time, are limited in the amount you can carry.

Also, the AI is probably much more likely to be aggressive and flank, so the classes will need something like this.

Bioware previously described the Vanguard melee attack as a biotic blade, pretty much the same as the Soldier class in use.

I've said it before, and I'll beg it again:

Bioware, please give the engineer a shoulder-mounted turret for when they are completely leveled up. The amount of awesomeness added to that class would rival the vanguard charge, and infiltrator cloak.

Good luck, with that one...though if they did do that then I might consider making an ME 2 only character who is an engineer myself.

edit: On topic...awesome episode...vanguard is looking badass as usual and that new shotgun will be a nice addition to our my already badass arsenal( which right now is the revant, claymore, and whatever else they allow a vanguard to carry as it won't matter much after those 2)

So I said it in another thread, but Nova is exactly like a suggestion I made to Christina Norman back when she was asking for ideas for new Vanguard powers(April 5th of this year, I checked), which she definitely approved of(insofar as the idea being interesting and doable).

Thats pretty fricken cool.

^"slam fist into ground, everyone falls down around you." i dont think that was any harder of an ability to think up then pull or throw. but i think the soldier shoul have had nova. vangaurd got enough CC and CQC abilities. i guess nova just makes the vangaurd more vangaurdy.

does nova need FULL shields, or is the burst proportional to your amount of shielding? if so, does shield+barier = nova?

also, the first time we heard about nova from a dev, didnt he say that nove explodes? a novasplosion perhaps?

Nah, I didn't think up the animation they used. My idea was more like an all encompassing wave coming out of the Vanguard.

I meant the overall idea behind the attack. The ridding of the barrier to create a high damage, high risk, high reward attack.

I had a few other ideas, but Christina specifically pointed out that she liked that one. Also said a few other things about it. Its just good to know that something similar to that idea made it through.

Also, how exactly would a Soldier even use Nova? Barring that Nova is biotic, do you mean you wanted the Soldier to pound his/her fist into the ground and have some shockwave looking thing hurt enemies around them? How does that even work? I could see a Tech class use it if it fired off some electrical thing or a ring of flame. Obviously it works biotically. But a Soldier? I don't get it.

Cool information, but I still don't see why it has to be wrapped up in that overproduced nonsense. If you're going to do the 'cheesy TV host' thing, at least hire people trained to do that, instead of trying it yourselves. It just doesn't work.

The new flashlight/torch looks great - it would have been freaking awesome if it had been in ME1, and Peak 15 on Noveria had been a LOT darker...

Plus, that guy has an incredibly annoying voice. Might be great at marketing, but please stop putting him in front of a camera.
