It's original, however there's some problems with what they can do with the writing. They're fairly limited with what they can accomplish, we won't see anything like NV's factions or morally complex stories.

Unfortunately, it's a good point. There's likely going to be a lack of variety that you may have seen in New Vegas. The writing will still be on the mark, but how much you can do with that material is in question. Like I said, the results will be interesting. Whether that's good or bad remains to be seen.

Sounds like a good mindset to adopt. If the player drives himself insane, then the insanity of a South Park RPG can only work.

Yes, that's the ticket.

Not everything I may say should be taken with a complete level of seriousness. If you want me to be realistic about it, it will likely be in the 8's - It's an interesting idea, but I probably won't be buying it.

I really like Obsidian for New Vegas which is, at least for me, the best Sandbox-RPG out there. But this here doesnt look as great. I mean, sure, Southpark... thats cool and funny. But imo there isnt enough specific "southpark" content to make an RPG out of it. Especially since southpark usually makes parodies/fun of other things.
It remains to be seen if it will be good though. Saints Row the Third was my personal surprise hit and that sounded pretty retarded in the first place too.

Do not want.

I mean, it'll be interesting to watch being made and such but I'd rather have Obsidian's writing staff be used to it's fullest potential. Not... this. :(

Which is fine since it would seem Matt and Trey are writing the game.

But yeah, despite liking South Park, I'd rather see Obsidian working on Fallout 4 or an Elder Scrolls game or a sequel to Alpha Protocol. This might be interesting though.

Oh, I wasn't being serious either. At most, I expect a half serious attempt of exploration on irrationality or something. With a lot of satire.

Don't worry, the Dragon Age anime is still #1 on the list of dumbest ideas, we just found what #2 is now. :D

As a video game or an RPG, I am not sure how this will turn out. As a source of entertainment and comedy, I think this is going to be very funny.

 Oh my stars and garters. Of all the things I expected Obsidian to do, this was the last thing I could have predicted. Still, it could be something to look forward to. I mean, if Viacom New Media could make a good game based on Beavis and Butthead, why should it be a stretch to think Obsidian can make a worthwhile title out of the boys of South Park?

This. It will make an entertaining rental, perhaps.

I cannot change my nature, and vice versa.

Saints Row the Third was my personal surprise hit and that sounded pretty retarded in the first place too.

It could be. I've been surprised before - I'll need to see the full article once it comes out to get a better idea of what they're making.

I think that's the issue I'm wrestling with. I'm a huge fan of the writing in both South Park and Obsidian games, but the two aren't necessarily complementary to each other. It would be like making Quentin Tarantino responsible for a romantic comedy; it's just not what he was built to do.

What it comes down to is I'm not hyped on the idea that South Park's satire can effectively be combined with Obsidian's themes and story-telling, best demonstrated through Planescape and KotOR 2's Kreia, and still keep the meaning (and enjoyment) which each provides individually. If it is to work, one side will have to have more control. At this point, it seems to be South Park's Matt and Trey, in which case I'm wondering why even bother employing Obsidian?

But hell, I'm sure some people said the same at combining Final Fantasy and Disney, yet look how many people loved Kingdom Hearts? I'm skeptical, but I might hear differently when it comes out.

This is one of the cases of I'd never ask for it, nor dream of it...

but I definitely do want it!

And, seeing some the naysayers, I'm happy on my side of this as well. :wizard:

Pissing people off and making fun of racial issues, religion, life stiles, celebrities and whatever was the main attraction. At least for me.

I believe these things NEED to be ridiculed, and should be ridiculed. They hold way too much power and influence over people and the way people think for no good reason. Made up authorities and imaginary rolemodels.

And where the heck do you get off at suggesting poeple should rethink their lives based on what they like in comedy or entertainment.

This is easily one of the most original ideas for an RPG license ever, not to mention, South Park writing ain't exactly "easy".

...

So is me setting my self on fire and jumping off the statue of liberty while drinking a can of redbull with bottle rockets tied to my arms and flying across the hudson river.

Does that make it good? No

Safe? No

Fun? For some people with a lack of fine taste, yes I'm sure it does.

I don't think you can categorize South Park fans like that.  I like South Park but I realize that Matt and Trey cross the line often. There are certain episodes that I've seen where I have to go look up what they are parodying and after I find out what it is I completely see why it was being mocked in South Park.

What... why?

I suppose this is a moderately good thing if it puts Obsidian on the map, and makes sure we don't ever get anything like a cult game without the sequel it deserves again. Perhaps this will even lead to Defiance becoming a reality...
