A RPG that doesn't water down its aspects but rather doesn't take itself seriously from the start-go, and trolls all the over-emotional fankids deserves my money...

These whole operation smells so much of money grab. I mean, I'm not a fan of the IP so I would probably skip it anyway. But I don't see any reason why it could work well. It does not seem like a spontaneous partnership and we are not talking of Star Wars here...
Then, if I'm wrong I will try it off course. I have much biase against Alpha Protocol and it turned to be one of the most interesting and innovative RPG of the last years with all his flaws.

Wow. The people over at RPGCodex must be having a fit right now.
The level of butthurt at the kkkodex has reached maximum levels. One of the few reason why these RPG deserved to exist
If it is to work, one side will have to have more control.
At this point, it seems to be South Park's Matt and Trey, in which case
I'm wondering why even bother employing Obsidian?
They needed some bugs so the game could feel more indie (even as an artistic form of social commentary against AAA games fixation with polish).

As far as i'm aware. Obsidian are also working with another company on a Wheel of Time game.. Though that's fairly old news and i've heard nothing about it for a while. So Chris and company are making this instead of, say, another RPG in the Planescape setting?
Then again i don't go looking for information on specifics companies, merely games that pop up that appear to be the least bit interesting.

I don't mean to derail the thread, but is Alpha Protocol better on the PC then console?
PC with an Xbox controller or consolles. Some minigames are a pain in the arse with the mouse (imho) and the game was builded with consolles in mind.

For example, many Sports games, despite being "dumbed down casual swill" have character creation and character building more complex than many fully fledged RPGs these days. I'd like to see an RPG released today with like 20+ stats or attributes. Reactive narrative? They have that too, moreso than you'd think. No two seasons are ever, EVAR the same.
So it might just be possible, just a little, that we'd get a game with meaningful RPG elements and a ****load of satire about RPGs, RPG tropes and the industry at large.
Sure it won't be no Planescape or hold any "depth" per se, but who cares? If it's a good RPG that rags on other RPGs I'd be happy to buy it.
Of course, it could all be a phoned in piece of crap and that's the likely outcome, but there's massive potential there.

From what I was reading in the article, it looks like Trey and Matt are overseeing the entire project. If they are pouring a ton of money into this game, they can probably make a really good one. I know Obsidian isn't scared of trying something new. When I saw the picture of the boys in the Lord of the Rings outfit, I started to kind of look forward to the game. I mean they could make a pretty cool character creator. The more I actually think about this game, the more I'm starting to like it
