I hope 2012 be the end of the world, I have no patience to wait more than 2 years for an epic RPG.

And they said Bioware left their roots.... I wonder what deep choices and consequences will await us in this game. ;P

Obsidian is making an rpg not a shooter.

You do realize it's still an RPG.

I remain unconvinced. It seems like one of the stupidest ideas I've seen since...jesus I don't even know what to compare it to. But I'll shut up now. :)

Snubbing the game because it's South Park... it's like none of you have ever played or enjoyed games like Conker's Bad Fur Day. Which is a bit of a shame.

http://www.thegaming...south-park-rpg/

Some details, pretty cool ones too. Sounds more "RPG" (albeit somewhat JRPGish) than some of the high profile titles. Not worth $60, but certainly one to keep in mind.

Turn based combat, fully silent customizable protagonist, no/little unskippable or non interactive cinematics. Not bad.

Personally, I'm not interested becuase I do not like the IP and I think that its so called sense of humor has been past his prime for many years now. Some thing should end sooner or later instead of jumping one shark after the other. Well, the RPG seems like the definitive Shark to me, I cannot stop thinking about Fonzie everytime I read news about it.

Beside, SP it's very UScentric, it does not say anything to an european as a form of social commentary. Mind, some episodes I've seen from time to time in the last years are fun, like "Make love not warcraft" or the one that joked about the movie Inception (maybe because I understood the cultural reference). But generally it does not say a lot to me and does not seem like good RPG material.

If I'll buy it, it would be because Obsidian find a way to make it interesting in the C&C department but I will not hold my breath over it because the whole operation seems more like another Dungeoun Siege then another New Vegas.

I hail from Eastern (though northernish) Europe - and South Park is very relevant. The cultural references they make are usually stuff that's good to know anyhow. And it's not just America, you've ever seen that whaling one? (though beside the wider subject it's somewhat about that US-specific anti-whaling TV show, that's great to know as well) + there's loads of other Japan in it.

The overall criticism with a semi-intellectual fiery attitude towards all kinds of modern-day cultury stuff is really this predominant ONLY in South Park. It's done by two Americans, yes, and from that perspective it has it's more defined scope, but it's actually important and everyday stuff South Park nags on - like prevailing beliefs and attitudes in the psychological behavior of people. I find it a bit like socratic dialogue actually, with a sense of absurd that goes beyond Monty Python and Japanese stuff - but with a bit of a taste for artsily-over-simplistic animation and euphorical camp. (eg awesome trolling?)

The predominant message is a universal one - chill out and think things over without nasty preconceptions, I think...

edit: though I do agree in a way - South Park is past its prime, and it won't make for a serious RPG...

I don't know maybe you're right and it's simply misinformation on my part. But for example I seem to remember that in the first seasons (wich I admit to know only slightly better) there was a certain focus on religion. While I must admit that the episode where Jesus and Satan fight each other in the fixed box match was really hilarious, at the same time it does not speak a lot to me because in my experience religion brings very different (and more pragmatic) topics. I mean, just an example, in Italy we have no problems with the church discussing the teaching of evolutionism in school.

Yup, I'm maybe one of those people who get fired up about topics that happen across entire oceans. Though not a good thing in-itself, it does seem to induce an interest for knowledge abroad - South Park feel educating in a way (though maybe of not much importance), rather than irrelevant. Though tis only my personal opinion. :)

At this point, I'm pretty much just looking at older titles for my RPG fix anyway.

Hopefully Dead State, Age of Decadence and Knights of the Chalice 2 see the light of day sometime.

I guess not being a PC gamer for a bunch of years is actually a blessing in disguise, as now i have alot of great RPGs to go back and play during these years of such decline.

Ha do you really think people take their heads out of their own ass and try something different?

Even if they do fail, South Park has a very healthy fanbase which would generate some much needed revenue for Obsidian. I just saw, from that details post, that they are using the Onyx Engine from Dungeon Siege: III. Like I said in various other posts, the Onyx Engine is beautiful, but it just needs some tweaking. Seriously, though, some of you on these boards complained when we were trashing Dragon Age: 2, which did turn out to be a **** game, but this new South Park game looks pretty interesting. The same exact thing could've been said about Planescape: Torment which had a crappy box art and an overly odd setting. Obsidian hasn't let me down yet, and I hope they won't with this title.

It seems that rather than simply licensing the rights to some third party publisher, Trey Parker and Matt Stone have taken a very active role in writing and developing the game.

Apparently, Parker's favorite game is Oblivion and Stone's is FIFA 12 LOL.

I guess your fine with the generic story of Kotor 1. Obsidian made Revan awesome and had interesting characters. Hell the new Revan novel used idea's from Kotor 2 and didn't even bother aknowledging it. Kreia is much interesting Malak ever was. Kotor 2 was more personal and not about saving the galaxy and had more gameplay features. Yes Kotor 2 was a mess on launch and Obsidian even tried patching all the missing content in (LucasArts said no) but even with out the content Obsidian had a much better game than Bioware.

Frankly everyone should. Seems more taught is going into this game than Dragon Age 2.

Yes, the details look promising but keep in mind that the ultimate source for all of the information floating about on various gaming websites is one person who said he received his January Game Informer early and posted these details on the neogaf forum.

It sounds plausible, but it's not exactly the best source:
