Parker has always preferred silent protagonists in RPGs, so the player’s character will be silent.

The player’s character will be fully customizable.

Parker hates unskippable cutscenes, so there likely won’t be cutscenes at all or they’ll be interactive.

I'm astounded. I think I like this Parker guy.

Can't say I'm familiar with Paper Mario though.

Paper Mario is a great game. I had plent of fun with it and am over ecstatic to hear that South Park game is going to be similar to it.

It was basically a RPG itself.

Sigh...I love Obsidian, but I have a hard time believing this is something I will enjoy.

I guess I just wish Obsidian was working on something more serious.

If its fun I could care less about it being really serious. Gaming can easily branch out into different categories and a South Park RPG could actually be pretty fun and it isn't difficult to put in some actual serious moments.

It's not that I hate the idea of the game.  It's just that I wish someone other than Obsidian was the one making it.  I'd rather see Obsidian working on something that could be another PS:T, KOTOR2, MOTB, AP or FO:NV instead of something that will likely be pretty silly.

I guess it's just that Obsidian is the last major company that seems to have any desire to make the sort of games I really enjoy, and instead they're working on something that, while it may be fun, probably won't be something I'd think of pulling out and playing 10 years from now.

Some of the games Obsidian made were do to permission from other developers. It isn't like they can pull another KOTOR out of there asses.

I'd rather them make this then nothing.

I realize that.  I didn't mean literally another KOTOR2, I meant something on that same scale and with that same depth which I just can't imagine a South Park game being.  It's simply outside of the tone of the franchise.

I'd rather them make this then nothing.

Agreed, but rather than either I'd like to see them work on a classic RPG with an original IP.

I thought Paper Mario was going to be a rather average Mario game ended up being very surprised at how well it was made since I didn't think Mario could be this good. South Park can get serious at times when it needs to but to be honest I'd rather this RPG be mostly rather humourous, contain some crude humour but keep some actual reality and seriousness in the game so I can stay interested. Plus it needs to just be plain fun.

Agreed, but rather than either I'd like to see them work on a classic RPG with an original IP.

By classic what do you mean? Honestly I'd rather they try something new I already have quite a few RPGs I like and I'm not seeing a Baldurs Gate 3 or KOTOR 3 coming out soon so I'd be cool with something new.

Personally, I think this sounds like the most ridiculous idea for an RPG ever. Especially since Obsidian isn't even writing it, but the makers of South Park. But I'll wait until it's actually out or we at least have a bit more info before judging it.

Yeah, personally even I'm a little suspicious of the quality this will have, which is really rare for me to say BTW but like you say lets not get too ahead of ourselves here. Like the upcoming Bioware IP, we still know little about it.

Well if it's some sort of Costume Quest for adult with turn based combat and Obsidian choice/consequences it could work... but still sound like a money grab to me.

If it was a money grab, the developers of South Park wouldn't be paying such close attention to it. The reason they probably chose Obsidian is because they are the only mainstream developers that actually develop RPGs.

don't think it's because of this. bioware is busy developing and producing their own ips. plus they're probably in tight contract with ea. bethesda isn't interested, cd project ain't that big in the us (and too far away) and troika's dead. that leaves only obsidian. it's definitely not because of their skills ;)

besides the sp creatores ain't into rpgs. heck, they even love oblivion.

Or maybe...get this they chose Obsidian because they have the skills to not **** it up.

I'm sure the fact Obsidian keeps landing projects has nothing to do with their ability to develop decent games. Nope. It's all publishers and license holders acting in desperation or throwing them a bone out of pity. :P

I'm happy to see Obsidian growing and finding success. Fallout New Vegas sold 7+ million units, and I'm expecting South Park to be another popular title for them. They definitely deserve the success, they have created some of the best characters and moments in recent gaming. (KOTOR2-FONV)

I'm far from a South Park fan, but a Mario RPG-ish combat system? Multiple factions?

**** just got real.

Well now, I'm intrigued. And I never thought I'd be intrigued about anything having to do with South Park.

I actually think this could be interesting - have to wait to hear/see more, but it's something I will follow through production stage.

At least we know it's a RPG that's NOT in a post-apocalyptic setting.

I didn't realize South Park is still relevant.

One of their episodes spawned a musical on broadway Its more relevant today then its ever been.
I'm interested but I'm in wait and see mode at this point.

Did no one even consider the possiblity that the folks at Obsidian are South Park fans and jumped at the chance of doing this?
No of course not this is money so obviously money I know if I ever start making games I'd love the chance of working on a South Park game.

If it's anything like any of the other Mario games, I'd probably dislike it. The combat system is the only relevant part though.

To be honest that was my first opinion on their reasons. It seemed like the more likely one.
