Hi,

I am having a problem to restore my backup file, when I do that some of the files in the pallet window of the toolset appear with a red dot over them and I can not edit the files, nor check them out, nor restore the resource inside the toolset, nor delete.... I am pretty much stuck with them as they are. :pinched:

So...if anyone has any idea on how to solve this it will be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

[Edit]: I have discovered the source of the problem... if you don't check in the files (remove the green check icon of the file) before backup the data bank the red dot appears when you restore it. No idea how to solve the problem though... :?

Hi Alschemid,

glad you have figured out how to cope with it in the meantime. A red dot indicates usually that the resource is checked out to another user. Has anything changed in your environment?

I run into this when I had to restore the database after a crash on another system. Adjustment of owner´s name and user profile solved it for me.
As user who has checked out the resource you should usually have no problems with the corresponding restored version.

Yes, everything changed... my computer died and those backup files I have done some time ago and saved in a CD, so I am using a new computer, with another OS, and different user name... :(

Thanks, let me see if I can get it fixed somehow.

It seems to be exact the same cause. Different OS doesn´t matter. To rename "Newname\\BWDATOOLSET" into "Oldname\\BWDATOOLSET" and to recreate / use the the same name for the user profile - if this has changed - should be sufficient to fix it.

Changing the computer name and user was easy, but how can I change the BWDATOOLSET to SQLEXPRESS... is it possible? Or should I install the toolset and the SQL again?

"change the BWDATOOLSET to SQLEXPRESS" - sorry, Alschemid, I don´t get what you mean exactly.

You server name is still OldComputerName\\BWDATOOLSET?
I have changed it without reinstallation easily. I can´t remember this step well. Brooding...

Reinstallation is always an option ;) probably more time-consuming.

Edit: Assumed that your question is related to the change of the server name I recommend a search on MSN.
You can change it with a stored procedure.

Here is for example the how-to for SQL 2008 RE2:
http://msdn.microsof...y/ms143799.aspx ' class='bbc_url' title='External link' rel='nofollow external'> http://msdn.microsof...y/ms143799.aspx

My old server name was ComputerName\\SQLEXPRESS because I had to install the SQL Server manually and it got the default name... I don't mind reinstalling as long as I get it working.

Thanks Yara!!
