Weird title but what the hell.

In the middle of writing a bit of fanfiction here and I was just wondering something: all that white crap that comes out of ship engines, is that plasma, element zero or something else?

Might seem silly but I'm big on details. REALLY big on details.

Starships still require conventional thrusters (chemical rockets, commercial fusion torch, economy ion engine, or military antiproton drive) in addition to the FTL drive core.

So your answer is it depends on what thrusters are fitted on a ship. It isn't eezo though, that is just used for the mass effect core, which manipulates the inertial mass of the ship.
