OS: Win7 Pro x64
MASS EFFECT 2 (PC Version)
Digital download
Stock install (no mods or tweaks, yet) only keyboard reassignments were:
Forward=Right shift
Back=Right Ctrl
Run= /
Sidestep right=.
Sidestep left=,
Mouse set to inverted.

(Using (wired) full size PS2 keyboard  and USB wired Mouse in case it matters...)

Hello all,

I've run quite a few searches with "site:social.bioware.com" added into Google search box as suggested... See alot of comments about persons wanting to use X360 controllers,  debates on keyboard vs controllers etc but no info on the control problem I'm having.

PROBLEM?: Mouse unresponsive to turn movement(s) while "RUNNING".

When I press the key I mapped  "/" to enable "run" mode - Player runs in direction player was LAST pointed in...

(NOTE: While "walking" I am able to turn and manuver via the mouse properly.)

Unlike other games on the market since about 1990? ...Deus Ex 1, DE Human Revolution, Doom, Quake, Unreal, Half-Life series, etc I am unable to TURN via the mouse- when in "Run" mode..(EG: While "RUNNING"). (while "walking" I am able to turn via the mouse.)

There are three movement speeds associated with Shepard.

1) Walk, this is only accessed by pressing a button.

2) Run, this is the standard movement speed around the map.

3) Storm, this is the "run" that is faster than a run and can only be maintained for a short duration.

In #1 and #2 mouse movement should be normal with looking. In #3, there is a significant delay in the change of direction when looking with a mouse. In #3 you have to use the sidestep buttons to change your movement direction quickly.

What you seem to be describing is the normal operation of the game when you Storm, and is designed to be that way. Sorry, you aren't having a technical issue, but a design disagreement.

AFAIK, and I will have to check next time I play a round but you are correct- If you have to press a button to "walk", (move super-slow?) and normal speed is "run" I'm talking about #3 "Storm".

You mention in #3 there is a "significant delay" in the change of direction when looking with a mouse- and player running in direction last pointed in is normal?   Seems like that is a major oversight from a design perspective for a PC game.
(I don't know about you-but if you're trying to move FAST... keyboard and mouse should work together seamlessly.)

Q: Is there any way to change that behavior?

(EG: Edit the Coalesced.ini file?)

Q: Significant Delay?... Are you saying at some point mouse operation does respond as it should?... or is mouse control only returned after "Storm" times out?

PS: Thanks for the info, it is apperciated.

I don't know if you can edit the coalesced or not, never done so, and so I have no experience in what can be changed.

Storm is about a quick "charge" more of a head down rush to get somewhere, and thus you can't shoot, or change direction by looking. If you move the mouse so you are looking 90 degrees off while Storming you will move a few degrees off the direction you were traveling. If you want to really change your direction while storming you will have to use the keyboard and "sidestep" which does change your direction like mouse control does(iirc). Full control by mouse is only returned when Storming is over, but again this is a design decision to simulate the extra effort run, more than an oversite in design in my opinion.

I am running Mass Effect 2 on windows 7 x64,"classics" version.

Problem: I cannot turn while running (not even talking about storming, just default running speed). The camera turns while I am standing still okay, but is locked whenever I move. Any hints?

Give some specs per the sticky and make sure you include drivers and what mouse you are using, as well as any mods or changes in the ini.

1) Please register the game on the forums. This is not an accusation, but given the spate of users with illegally downloaded copies coming to the forums asking for help, forum registration is the only way we can be sure we are dealing with a legit copy. Illegally downloaded copies include hacked and modified files which could be either corrupt, or full of malware. Once its registered, we will be happy to help. Forums Registration here;
