On pointing out every problem:

I once watched my sister the high school English teacher grade essays. Bad, bad essays. Incoherent essays. And each time, she'd write about three notes on the essay - three things to do better next time.

"But but but," I said. "There is so much more wrong with that."

"Yes," she said, "but they can, in theory, fix three things for next time. If I tell them all fifteen things they screwed up, they'll just get discouraged and give up."

Your Mileage May Vary. I think the rules are different for, say, an author with an established relationship with a beta reader. Or a copy editor.

It's hard, but I think it can be helpful to actually limit yourself to the top 1-3 things you'd change in whatever you're concritting... and to not compare to what others have said. If, out of twelve reviews, ten tell me the same things, that's valuable. It's a stronger message about what a wider cross-section of readers is seeing.

... It will be in good company alongside - Kindle, Google Plus - hey I baulked at Twitter and now I tweet like a pro... as in professional.

But I will add I do not mind public criticism or discussion of anything I write - so long as it is constructive and helpful.  I dont even mind if people rip it to shreds and point out every flaw.  If I know what the reader is thinking (whoever they are) I can better decide how to communicate with them.

Its not about me impressing readers so much as reaching them and pulling them into my world I made for them, but OMG I love it if I do impress them and they like/luv it ....  they are my rewards and encouragement to keep on keeping on.

Ah, but I view public reviews as much as word of mouth advertising for the author as I do actual feedback directly to the author. If you impress me, and I "like/luv it" I want to make sure others know why so that they give you a read, too!

Oh, oh, oh!  Check out this link (it is a download of a zipped MP3, if someone has a good suggestion for a streaming place I could put it, let me know!) for a fantastic filk of "Summer Nights" called 'Thedas Nights" with lyrics by our own Shadow of Light Dragon!  Totally, totally awesome!  it stars Zevran & the Crows and Fem!Warden & the Wardens from DA:O/DA:A, though, so I'd still love to see a DA2 version.

So for some reason, the first song my brain turned up at the mention of musicals was "Part of Your World" from Disney's The Little Mermaid.  And I thought, "You know who gets that?  DA2's Quentin.  Although it's really more a 'Part of My World.'  But still."

I wonder if the idea came to him spontaneously or whether he's seen Dancer in the Dark.  Bjork's character in the film escaped from her (really really depressing) life by imagining the people around her were performing in a musical, though naturally it was Bjork music not Bollywood.
