I've only recently gotten Awakening, and there's something I can't figure out. For the life of me, I cannot get Velanna's companion quest random event. I know it's possible, I encountered it in my first playthrough of the game. But in every playthrough since, it's been mysteriously absent. If anyone could help me with this, I would appreciate it. Also, I'm on the PS3 version, so the PC code won't help me.

This quest is well-known to be tricky to trigger.

Buggy, even. I just went through this last week, and didn't find a solution, nor is there a definitive one in the Wiki.

I did get the quest once I advanced the story, thought I can't say that's what triggered it. You might get more specific information in the Spoiler Forum.

I believe you need to get Velanna to at least 25 or 30 Approval before her overland map encounter will trigger, the same way that Oghren's encounter with Felsi won't occur until you have at least a certain amount of Approval with him.

To make things easier on myself, I usually buy a bunch of Cakes and Gifts from Bodahn in DAO before importing my character to Awakening. The gifts only give +1 point each, but they're helpful for shoring up Approval here and there.

Im trying to do a playthrough getting all the companion quests completed for the best ending before I import to the next game. No matter what I do I cant get this triggered.

Can Bioware please finally address this?

This Method works 9 out of 10 times for me.

1. Talk to everyone in the throne room after the cutscene with Anora/Alistair.
2. Recruit Nathaniel Howe & start the Trade Must Flow Quest (Do not start any other Side Quests)
2. Head to Amaranthine to update the quests for Velanna & Sigruns.
3. Head to Knotwood Hills & Complete Sigrun quest.
4. Than head directly to Wending Woods
5. DO NOT LOOT ANYTHING While in Wending Woods specially the Elven Trinket.
4. Head into the Mines
5. Save before heading out of the mines
6A. Exit the Mines and head to Amaranthine than back to the Keep(Random encounter will happen between the city and the Keep).
6B. If 6A does not work than head to Knotwood Hills instead.

Side note. I was able to trigger her Quest in all my playthroughs except one. Not 100% sure why it would not trigger in that selected playthrough.

It could be because Alistair was exiled & Loghain was still alive. I was also married to Anora. I

Oghren's didn't work for me. And Sigrun was the last person I recruited and couldn't get her to do the joining.

^ Problem with Sigurn's Joining is a known bug. Check her Wiki page to see how to avoid it.

Those who are on the PC can use the developer's console to work around these bugs. Otherwise, the only thing to do is to look up the individual bug and load a saved game from before the bug triggered.
