Ok, I have been lurking around these forums for years. I don't speak up often but I take everything in. Thing is, there is a lot of negativity around. I am just as responsible for it as everyone else but I think I would like to try to lighten the mood.

I imagine if you are a developer it must be terribly annoying to have thread upon thread created that criticises something that you do every day, something that you worked hard on. So if we want Dragon Age to be great into the future, let's throw some positivity the dev's way. Let's remind them of those things that we really loved about Dragon Age so they can extend the experience for us. I'm not asking for a 'my favourite memory is when there was a silent protagonist', that thread already exists, let's not start that debate here. This is about that moment or moments that you fell in love with this series, the moments that kept you going and the ones that made you crave MOAR!

Don't participate if you don't want, I totally respect your right to be angry at them for the catastrophic betrayal you feel DA2 was or whatever else you want to be upset about. Just let's keep it out of this one thread, and let this be an attempt at a thread for the dev's to take a look at when they are having a bad day.

Remember: positivity for the devs. In the hopes that you catch more flies with honey.

*SPOILERS* are highly likely in this thread.

I'll start: my favourite memory is when Alistair said something that made me lol. 'Swooping is bad'. After that I just wanted to be his friend, and I ended up being just that! He still cracks me up to this day.:D

*spoiler*

In DAII when I first saw "Ketojan". I was blown away. By everything about him. Why was he there? What is he wearing? Can he speak? Why does she have him? That stuff.

Yes! Me too. He appeared out of nowhere and his appearance was so unusual that it instantly made you want to know more. I know exactly what you mean.

*spoilers, of course*

DA:O , first discovering the Prison Break quest... laughed so hard and had to play it again and again. Priceless.
What kept me going earlier on in the game was definitely Morrigan and countless snide remarks. Whenever the quests were boring, one of her lines made it all good.

DA 2: Not much of the same quality as DA:O, but Aveline was a huge surprise - Hated her first, later she became my favorite companion and her personal quest was just sweet.

@OP - With the likely spoilers, perhaps we can have this thread moved to one of the spoiler-friendly forum zones?

Such a brilliant character. It used to both frustrate me and make me want to hug her whenever she said one of these lines. That character was some excellent writing.

Yes that's a good point. I will request it.

DAO:
1.The death of Cousland's parents. I only knew them for an hour or two, but their death really hit me hard.

2. Battle at Ostagar. Loved it, and the ending cutscene with Loghain's betrayal and Duncan's death were icing on the cake.

3. The Landsmeet. Loved the whole political side of this sequence, and finally talking to the man himself was great.

4. The credits. First time i had ever watched the entirety of a credit screen. The song was mesmerising, and i just thought back to everything had done through the entire game.

These are of course my first playthrough experiences. Subsequent playthroughs were unsurprisingly far less mesmerizing.

DA2:
1. The Arishok conversation at the end of Act 2. I loved his character.

I'll come back if i have any more for DA2, i'm sure there's more..

First off, Ponendus very cool thread idea. I completely concur with how it must feel on the dev's side with all the negativity, hopefully it helps.

In origins, battle at Ostagar...wow first time I played it, I was absolutely blown away. Loghains betrayal, and Duncan looking up at the lit beacon... just awesome

Actually this sticks out to me too, I think I remember holding my breath at that moment. Very powerful.

Another: the rhyme in the Deep Roads just before Hespith and the Broodmother. Had no idea what was happening and the building sense of doom was awesome!

I think this for me too. It was such a big moment that felt so important with choices that shaped so much. And it came at a moment where I already felt so drawn into the world from all the other quests. It felt so good to catch up to Loghain finally.

In DA2, probably arriving at the Gallows for the first time. Just seeing all the NPCs walking and having a party at the start of the game . . . it felt like the intro was over, it made me a bit nostalgic and I was looking forward to exploring Kirkwall.

Some great things were already named here. I'm going to add Leliana's song into the mix. The way she starts singing at the camp with a clear night in the sky and the fire burning, the other companions stopping what they're doing to look over and endulge in a moment of serenity, forgetting all conflict for only a minute of peace ... just beautiful.

Hmm...

In Origins, I'll go with the first time I survived the Ser Cauthrien battle, and then later on, doing the fight solo with an arcane warrior warden.

In DA2, perhaps the first time arriving in Kirkwall and knowing that I had some exploring to do. Also, going through the deep roads, interacting with the Arishok, seeing Petrice taking an arrow to the forehead, and punching Isabela in the face during her act 3 quest.

Ostagar: it's the most evoking setting of the entire franchise.

The whole Dark Ritual sequence.

The first room of Orzhammar with the statues of the Champions.

Hespith's poem at the end of the Deep Roads sequence in DA:O.

The revenge moments in DA:O against Arl Howe and Loghain.

In DA2 it's hard to find such moments. I liked most of the quest in Act. 2 and the Arishock is a great NPC (arguably the best in the series) and most of the interaction with him are memorable... with the exception of the final duel.

I guess I am going to out myself as a sucker for epic battle video sequences, but oh well...

Grey Warden introduction when you start the game. Battle at Ostagar and Duncan&Kailan's death. The Battle of Denerim introduction up to the fairwells and grey warden music as the Warden charges on. Sadly missing those in DA2. I think the Qunari Uprise could have been, if they made a cutscene of the awesomeness of the destiny trailer.

Ok alot of people add favorite characters, I was thinking about scenes. Even though I enjoyed many companion scenes, they can never beat epic battle in my book. However, to complete my post with my favorite character moments definately almost everything from Merrill inlcuding banter and almost everything from Morrigan. Only downpoint of Morrigan, why no bi romance? Hehe.

DA:O

1) From my first playthrough, having both Alistair and Morrigan getting pissed at my Warden and leaving towards the end. I'm not sure why I liked that...maybe b/c it was a nice departure from 'the Warden is so awesome and wonderful!' feeling I got with the rest of the game. I also ended up with the Loghain 'Redeemer' ending which was pretty cool.

2) Meeting the Broodmother for the first time. The lead up to that moment was perfect.

DA2

1) Flemeth's revival

2) The moment the Arishok loses his last bit of patience and starts attacking Kirkwall.

3) When Anders blows up the Chantry. I don't agree with what he did but it's kind of exciting to witness the start of a war.

4) The culmination of Merrill's personal quest in Act 3...it was very depressing, but I like it when stories evoke that kind of emotion.

5) I enjoyed every moment of the squad banter.

Tops on my list would be having been one of the lucky ones chosen to participate in the Warden's Quest event in London. I got to meet Priestly, Fernando Melo, Mark Darrah, and a bunch of the other devs. And I also got to meet a ton of really cool BioWare fans from around the world. Pretty awesome.

As for in-game: the Ostagar battle, pretty much all of the Shale related stuff in the game, Morrigan, and especially Leliana. I even really developed an appreciation for the companions I didn't actually like, as I realized it wasn't because they were written poorly, rather it was because they were written well (IMO, of course). Gotta like that. I also quite enjoyed the different take on Dwarf society. Not the standard fantasy fare one usually gets with respect to dwarfs,

DAO

1) Walking into Ostagar...this immensity of the ruins from a distance was striking. I felt like I was entering into a large world.

2) The entire Leliana romance...from her introduction to the end of the game after the final battle when agrees the hero does get the girl in the end. No other romance in any game was as touching for me as hers is.

3) Hespith's mantra...that was very good lead-in towards the broodmother. Her chant coming from everywhere in that part of the Dead Trenches was eery.

4) Morrigan's story arch with the culmination of the Dark Ritual. Even during the romance you could tell she was holding something back...her revelation at the end was very intriguing.

5)The Gauntlet...being a history buff going through that was a nice Indiana Jones feeling in the game. And the lore given during the riddle phase was great.

There are many more but these were the ones that stood out for me.

DA2

1) Bethany and Isabela's banter...hearing Bethany begin to blossom into a woman with desires was really well done. Their discussing the Spear of Maferath was priceless for me.

2) The Arishok...he held a commanding presence in every scene he was in. You could tell he was a man of patience but even his level was wearing thin in a city of idiots.

Sadly that's about it for DA2...including the dlc's which were vast improvements over the main game. Still there really are no standout moments for me in the game. Even the mother's death felt contrived and almost Vaudeville in it's execution. The companions for the most part were bland and in many cases just not above average...very little depth or range to them that I could see in 6 playthroughs. It was a decent game...just nothing extraordinary to make me think "wow"

Oh, I forgot one: Leliana's song... I mean not the dlc but the song in DA:O.

Most of my 'best' memories are so because of the strong emotions attached to them, times when I really became immersed in my character to the point that her reactions were mine. Ones involving close family/friends of the character, basically.

For DAO, Cousland was my first, so what I remember best were her parents dying, the Gauntlet and associated character's memories, seeing Arl Howe in Denerim again for the first time, Alistair dumping her (my chick wasn't the type to tell him that the king could do whatever he wanted, so I didn't even know it was possible to get around that), forcing Alistair to do the ritual, then at the very end, seeing Fergus again and Zevran offering to travel with her.

For DA2... wanting to kill the Templars taking Bethany to the Circle. Anders' Act II quest (was rivalmancing him), and realising that if she couldn't keep him under control, she'd have to kill him to protect everyone around them. His Act III quest, both the hope all the way through that she really could separate them and they'd get their less and less likely happy ending, and the crash when it turned out he'd been lying, at which point she refused to help further and I never got the following conversation. And then... yeah. Absolute dread when he stepped forward and interrupted Meredith and Orsino. My Hawke killed him, after which I went away and cried for half an hour.

Oh, and it was nice how Fenris supported her in protecting the mages and by that point she didn't doubt for a second that he would, but honestly, I was so drained after the Anders thing that I just turned it down to casual and went through the motions the rest of the game. Anders rivalmance on your first run is a total emotional rollercoaster.

So mostly not *happy* memories, but any game that can pull that much of a genuine reaction out of me gets a lot of points in my book.

In Origins there were a lot of very memorable moments but there are a couple that really stick with me. When Alistair sacrificed himself for my female noble dwarf it broke my heart. Made me cry. The second most memorable moment was the gut wrenching scene that followed after I decided that my mage fearing dwarven commoner would kill Connor. *Ugh* I lost my nerve and then his mom, Isolde, did it!!! I will never forget either of those scenes. Absolutely heartbreaking.

For DA2, number one would be when you find out what Keeper Marethari did with the demon and the realization that she has to die, poor Merrill. My first time through I also had to kill Merrill's whole clan as well... I was not happy about that. Second would be when Isabela shows up with the relic. It's just such a *hooray!!!* moment.
