Edit: And as far as the banter, they must have just started that custom in DA2, because Dalish elves did not do this in Origins. You know with it being the same clan and all.
Not just the hair...I want...all of that. lol

I think Jethann's biggest problems were that having bright blue eyes and red/orange hair don't mesh very well and just look.... abnormal.
you take that back, it's the best combination
Absolutely. Every time someone puts forward Fenris, Merrill or Tallis as "Hey, there ARE good-looking elves!", they fall prey to the fact that both Merrill but especially Tallis and Fenris are as close to "human with pointy ears" as you can get with the new design. (I just happened to have Sarel from DA:O and Tallis on the same page on DA wiki, and their facial features are almost identical. Except that Tallis(!) has stronger jaws...)Aaleel wrote...
Then I thought the devs defeated the purpose of trying to make the elves and other races unique by coping out and making the main characters from other races look more human.

And I never heard anyone complaining about DA:O Dwarves looking just like "short stocky humans with an alcohol problem".

Complaining that elves are just "humans with pointy ears" is just like complaining that a cyclope has one eye and a harpy looks to bird like,
"humans with pointy ears" imo just came up by the da2 fanboys/girls that would just say anything to protect

Why? Because we consider beautiful what resembles us most. That's how a species survives.
Mutual genetic compatibility and attraction should matter if you want there to be half-elves.

Nah. It came form Dragon Age Wiki. Elves were described there as "humans with pointy ears".
But after DA2 this page has been modified as this was no longer true.

My point is that its actually true that elves are "humans with pointy ears" (only prettier then humans)
But, complaining about that is nonesense, its just like complaining that cyclopes have one eye
if the people fell the need to have another different "unique" race they should rather concentrate on how the fex should look

I know. I despise the new elves look with pure hatred + I don't find any of the elves atractive now. Not even single one of them.
And Merill is the worst of them. She annoy the crap out of me literally. I just can't stand the way she talks, her behaviour, her voice, her looks ... everything.
ehhhh ok. [/rant]
I've grown tired of the discussion ages ago, but I want to chime in on this. The Ethereal Writer Redux wrote...
while you make a point I agree with, if one were to actually look at the male Elves' body structure sans shirt -- which you can do in MotA -- you can see that they are not emaciated and are actually muscular.
Just because a person has a lithe body frame doesn't mean they are emaciated or that they can't be muscular.
I'm testament enough to that to the people that know me. I get comments all the time on how skinny I am, yet I'm a really strong person.
*is a bit shameful of saying that, as it sounds like I'm boasting when that's not my intent*

if you are writing a novel you should know what you are talking about, the da world is already set now and since its described that elves are beautiful and attractive they cant change them out of the blue to harry potter elvesZanallen wrote...
In a novel I am working on, elves are taller and more physically imposing than humans and their skin glitters due to mineral deposits naturally occuring in their skin that allow them to use magic.

...but your actual point (about elves potentially looking like a wide variety of things) is actually one I agree with. The issue with DA2 is not that elves are not allowed to look like anime giraffes, it's that the anime giraffe look isn't aesthetically pleasing or consistent with DA:O canon.

Yes, unfortunately :/ It only took the fashion world 40+ years since, to start to realize that promoting borderline anorexic 16 year olds as the ideal appearance for mature women might be a little irresponsible thing to do.Zanallen wrote...

They might see it, but they are very proud and fiercely defensive of everything they changed in DA2, especially design-wise, so don't hold your breath...

I'm pretty sure that Gaider already said that there were no plans to change the artstyle again beyond a few tweaks here and there. That would include not changing the elves back.
