Well, for starters, all of our lives are infinitely less important or interesting than Shepard's. As Shepard you are someone and the fate of the galaxy rests in your hands. That is just one small aspect of it all...

The fate of billions and billions resting squarely on my shoulders as the impending Reaper Invasion comes, with no obvious solution of escape plan?

I'll keep my desk job.

NO WAY IN HELL, summarize all bad things through all games (+ all dlc, ah yes Arrival) and what you know will happen in ME 3 and if you still want to be him, congratulations you are indeed heroic but foolish and yes you don't have the burden of probably die of old age.

Heck no. The pressure that Shepard must be under is amazing, and it's a miracle s/he hasn't gone completely insane. Also, I quite like being an anonymous nobody, as it means that if I screw up, no one has to suffer but me. When Shepard screws up, lots and lots and lots of people die. Plus, I really don't think Shep has any time for playing video games and chatting on internet forums what with saving the galaxy and all, and I think that sums up the tragic sacrifice that Shepard's life has been up to this point.

No. Background: 2/3 chance that that you lost your family. Pre spectre career: 2/3 chance that most of the people under your command got wiped out. Killed by Collectors. Has to live through a Reaper invasion of a) Earth and B) the rest of the galaxy. Forced to wipe out the Bahak system.

Shepard doesn't have a very enviable life.

Depends. Right now I'm quite comfortable with my life, I don't wanna go right through hell like Shepard does.
Then again - warning political - the current state of the world is so incredible f*cked up beyond recognition, I'd say: if I can make a difference if I were Shepard, then yes. Switch my life for his, do all the heroic stuff and save the day.

However, I think only warhero/spacer!Shepard fits to me. Other both variants have no family anymore, saw a lot of good men dying or sent them to death.

Even if you are comfortable with your life, there is that and then Shepard!

well depends if you mean literally become shepard having to save the galaxy then probably not too much weight for someone like me to carry.

But if you mean more Hero like trying to help people and stop stuff getting worse in the world etc (then yeah I probably would because its not as extreme as shepards case.

My answer would very much depend on what the long term efffects of Lazarus are. If the medical report came back clear, well of course i would.

Stardusk78: guess everyone dreams of becoming a hero of some kind. I think I like to be Shepard in a way that I have my own starship (big plus), a fine crew (big plus), being a special agent (plus) and can do amazing stuff in a future that seems to be quite authentic (for SciFi - also plus).

However, Shep has to go through hell even to find his (probably first) love. He has to shoot through hundreds of foes just to get close to the one troubling the entire galaxy (minus). Shepard dies and is brought back which means a lot of "ethical issues" to me (big minus). And he still has to defeat a huge fleet of ancient sapient machines (uhh minus). Dunno if I could bear that pressure - most likely not.
