Stardusk78: guess everyone dreams of becoming a hero of some kind. I think I like to be Shepard in a way that I have my own starship (big plus), a fine crew (big plus), being a special agent (plus) and can do amazing stuff in a future that seems to be quite authentic (for SciFi - also plus).

However, Shep has to go through hell even to find his (probably first) love. He has to shoot through hundreds of foes just to get close to the one troubling the entire galaxy (minus). Shepard dies and is brought back which means a lot of "ethical issues" to me (big minus). And he still has to defeat a huge fleet of ancient sapient machines (uhh minus). Dunno if I could bear that pressure - most likely not.

I think being Shepard in this case implies the ability to deal with all this stuff, no?

Nope. If I become Shepard, I still need to act like him, still need to think like him, do all the exercises,  go through boot camp, become a N7 agent, do even more bootcamp ... it's not that I suddenly become 29y old Shepard that knows how to deal with all the stuff without experiencing his past as well.

I'm a lazy guy, not a hero ^^

I'd never want to be a soldier. Even in a kill or be killed situation I'm not sure I'd have it in me to kill.

But you could be a hero, that is what is being offered to you...

You need to work hard for that title, Stardusk. I'm not sure if I can do that. I mean, what keeps Shepard doing this? He showed more than once that he doesn't do it to become a hero.

Maybe you should change the question a bit: Do you want to be like your headcanon!Shepard?

I'd say yes. Because then I am fighting for the only thing that's important to me - my family, my love, my future. And therefore I need to save the galaxy first.

Let me get this straight... I can be Shepard and have Kaidan??? :P
But I can't be me, so I'd lose, like all my friends and everything?? Damn... I don't think I want to do that :o

Would you?

Sure.

Despite all the danger you always come out alive, even when you die. And you get to bang Liara. I love blue skin.
And when I'm a wrinkly old man I'll still have a "20 year old" wife and probably a human breeding partner on the side.

Some guys have ... interesting priorities.
"I can die, but since I come back, I don't care. And I can bang a blue girl." ^^

(Okay, one of the reasons why I'd change with Shep is Ashley, but that's another story. I'm so glad my fiancee doesn't know much English ^^)

If I was my Shep I'd do things differently. I never believed about the Reapers until the end of game 1 but Shep did, we had no choice. And I'd assassinate the whole stupid council, Udina and TIM.There are a lot of choices I would want to do that Shep didn't get.

Probably not.

Granted it would be nice to be able to say what I want to say, rather than some of the odd things BW crams into Shepards mouth. But I don't hate my life so much that I'd be willing to get shot in the face on a daily basis just for that.

Same here:D

Besides that, I'm not an adventurer :P. I rather like it safe and quite. Not to forget all the training you have to make to get in this shape:blink: ...lol...No, I rather lie on my couch and read a good book and enjoy the action on my PC and Xbox;)

No way, I wouldn't swap with Shepard. I'd swap with Ken, maybe. That way I'll still be an engineer, and get to work alongside Gabby and Tali. Image IPB

Given past exposure with a number of you, most people on this board would make rather pathetic elite special forces operatives, and poor leaders under high-stress situations.

Less 'hero of the galaxy' and more 'chump.'

And after the galaxy is saved you get ambushed by some annoying reporters everywhere you go. Good thing you have a renegade interrupt.

But I would still pass.

Dunno. I'm a better leader than a soldier ... guess that's why I tend to play Infiltrators ^^ No close combat involved if not needed B)

Nope.

If I could I would trade this universe for the Mass Effect one, but there is no way in hell I would want to be Shepard. That guy/girl is shouldering way too much crap for any sane individual.

Assuming you're an actual captain, you might have some basis of military experience to help justify anything. Might.

But then, Shepard's very much a soldier. For all the 'leadership' ability that's thrown around, Shepard's functionally equivalent to a corporal in the field, and maybe a sergeant on the ship.

It's these people who are like 'I'd be an awesome engineer' or 'I'd just assassinate the Council as easy as you please' you wouldn't get anything done.
