Given past exposure with a number of you, most people on this board would make rather pathetic elite special forces operatives, and poor leaders under high-stress situations.

Less 'hero of the galaxy' and more 'chump.'

Dunno. I'm a better leader than a soldier ... guess that's why I tend to play Infiltrators ^^ No close combat involved if not needed B)

What if you play every class?

Then it still has nothing to do with your ability to actually do any class.

Being great at a computer game has less carry-over to being a soldier than one might think.

I mean, soldiers have to run. You get hot and sweaty and uncomfortable and ****, even before you get shot.

I'd be fine with being one of few people at the stations on the way to the cockpit. I'd get to do my part to save the galaxy, be able to directly support a great hero without actually having to go out and be shot at by tons of bad guys, and without requiring to take the decisions that affect the lives of millions. Dream job, beside the occasional problem like collectors abducting you...

You missed the point of the question; by choosing to be Shepard, you ARE Shepard, capable of everything he does, etc. I don't just mean, we weak mortals decide and try to be Shepard, if you choose to be Shepard, you ARE him.

No thanks. I prefer having a living, breathing family. I also don't mind living in a world that doesn't have thresher maws.

As I said before, if you become Shepard, you need to go through the stuff you don't see because it happened or happens off screen. Don't you think Shepard is exercising in his spare time to keep himself in shape?

I'm a bit too lazy for that. And yes, although I can play ALL classes, I'm a big fan of Infiltrators. ^^

Let me get this straight... I can be Shepard and have Kaidan??? :P
But I can't be me, so I'd lose, like all my friends and everything?? Damn... I don't think I want to do that :o

Same here:D

Besides that, I'm not an adventurer :P. I rather like it safe and quite. Not to forget all the training you have to make to get in this shape:blink: ...lol...No, I rather lie on my couch and read a good book and enjoy the action on my PC and Xbox;)

And anyway, if we were both Shepard, we wouldn't have each other............. :P

Honestly? In a heartbeat.

Why? There is nothing worse than living a boring life and dying without having achieved anything of value. Absolutely NOTHING. If something like sins exist wasting a life is definitely one.
Sure, Shepard leads an extremely dangerous life, carries unbelievable burdens, maybe even lost his family, had / has to sacrifice people under his command - but his life has a meaning, its exciting, its so much more intense in a good and bad way .

Like I said, its a no-brainer for me.

The only way I would be Shepard is if the Load and Save function came along with the package because then I could get the lottery numbers right, etc, etc....

OP you should clarify the exact parameters of this. You mean full Shepard as in anything he can do both physically and mentally we can do right? This includes dealing with psychological trauma? Also CptData brings up a good point. At what point will we be inserted? Birth? Puberty? The start of ME1? Just so people aren't confused since most people's objections seem to be "I couldn't deal with x" But Shepard can deal with x. Therefore we would be able to deal with x, right? The rules of the ME universe would also stay completely unchanged in all respects right? Also let's talk about the switch itself. If you do it, does it mean you are erased from this existence and no one here will remember you? Will you still have the memories of this past life?

You people are missing the one thing that actually matters if you are Shepard, the fact that you can never die because you can load your last save. Also if you had that ability in real life just imagine the possibilities...heh

The truth in this is, that 99% of all people in this world have a nearly meaningless life. All they do is eat, poop and procreate ... sounds cynically, but our world IS a cynical one.
Which is the true "sin of life". Wasting resources and achieving nothing.

*sigh* I wish I could do something meaningful. Writing a good book that gives people hope for example. And nope, no Bible 2.0 ... just a book.

Philosophical question: how do you know that we are not living like that? Someone is controlling us and loads a savegame if something goes wrong. We can't remember that since it does not happen in the player's canon

Either that is not the case or the person controlling me really hates me, otherwise they would've restored a savegame sometime before the evening of December 7, 2004 (traffic accident that caused lasting damage to the joints in my left foot). Image IPB

Unless that was a scripted (i.e. unavoidable) event... Image IPB

Let's see now.

He probably endures more stress now than he did during his background event, like the Skyllian Blitz or Torfan.

He pretty much carries the fate of the galaxy and all future civilizations on his shoulders and he's forced to watch as entire worlds are being slowly destroyed and he's forced to kill people on a daily basis. And he probably isn't doing well on a psychological level either, with possible nightmares and self-doubts.

No thank you. I'm happy with where I am while letting Shepard take the hits.

Determinism:devil:

This isn't a game, it's a movie. Critics say it sucks but it's gotten a cult following.

Hmm, guess it's scripted then ... <_<
Sorry I offended you ... wasn't my intention. I just do that philosophical stuff really often. Keeps me bearing the horrors of current state of the world. Kinda. Don't ask.

Yes.  In a heart beat.

All the hardships, intensity and pain would be worth it.  To explore space in my own ship, befriend and combat alien species, have psychic brain sex with Liara, **** yes I would trade my mundane meaningless life for all that.
