35 is the absolute minimum I'll go for an rpg.  50+ is my target number.  Sadly, DAO is the last game I played where I could hit that number consistently.

I actually found it rather easy to hit 50+ in ME2. Most of my playthrough's ended at the 55-65 range (by the time I finished Arrival).

I'm no fan of MP, and I don't much care for its inclusion in ME3, but even I think this article is mostly fluff.

Just checked my ME2 careeres.  The only one that breaks 50 hours (52 hours, 14 minutes to be exact) is my "canon" run where I did every single mission, every side mission, every N7 mission, and all DLC content.  The other careers come in at 40 hours or slightly less without DLC.

Now imagine how much shorter it would be if some of the game's content was an unwanted multiplayer feature.  Would I be reduced to a 35 hour game?  30?

It's a pretty scary thought alright. I think Casey said they're trying to make ME3 at least as long as ME2 (i.e. could be longer). Not sure if that includes DLC, but it helps the optimism.

My Engineer playthroughs without the DLCs clocked in at about 50+ hours as well.

Let's not forget that you can play the co-op feature by yourself too.

Yeah, God forbid that someone else tries fighting the Reapers besides Shepard and his merry band.

So they won't be trying to fight the Reapers unless you go online for some horde mode along with Talifan, G4RRUS and Urdnot Bob?

Nah, they're still fighting. You just don't see them fighting. You don't expect Saving Private Ryan to show you the Russian front, do you?

Seriously, what are you doing there?

Most of my ME2 playthroughs are on Insanity and did most stuff and I rarely go over 25 hours.

What are you doing there?

Never skipped cutscenes, dialogues and always walk when not in combat?

How do you manage that? I´m on a run doing everything, even reading planet descriptions and listening to the ME2 Codex entries, and I doubt it´ll get 40 hours.

When you boil down to the execution though, you're effectively looking at Shepherd's world being frozen in stasis while you pop off to create an extra fighter for the war effort. One of the coolest aspects of Mass Effect 2 was the sense of urgency in the main storyline. Letting you effect the outcome of ME3 by temporarily popping into an alternate reality isn't exactly a great leap for narrative."

You've gotta be sh*ttin' me. I mean, hello? How many time killers were there in ME2, exactly?

- N7 Missions
- Planet scanning/mining
- Talking to squadmates
- Shopping
- Playing around in your cabin
- Putzing with Shepard's armor

Not to mention the loyalty missions. OH NOES ALL THOSE COLONISTS GETTING ABDUCTED WE'D BETTER HURRY right after we find out what this strange transmission from the Hugo Gernsback is all about and blow up an abandoned laboratory for sh*ts and giggles.

Additionally, you can break up that sense of urgency by starting a new playthrough while your old one isn't complete, or play a different game for a while, or save and quit if you want to during the MOST INTENSE PART because hey man time for my favorite episode of Adventure Time.

Jesus Christ.

Nope, I never skip anything, and I always try to get the most out of the game every time I play it. ME2 can easily last you over 50 hours if you're a methodical completionist.

They're not trying to do it.

They did that.

ME3 is long as ME2, only with more replayability.

Do you also do Firewalker on Insanity?

Is that official?  Or just a "for now" feature?  Plus is it balanced to allow for one player?  WIll objective be completable solo?

So why do they only have an effect on the game if you do interrupt Saving Private Ryan to go see the Russian front?

Might have been a nice premise for  a seperate multiplayer game called Mass Effect:  Galaxy at War rather than a shoehorned in multiplayer feature, no?  ;)

I do, and it doesn´t add that much time. The only significant timesink I can think of is scanning more planets than necessary.

Absolutely. Apparently someone at EA thought otherwise.

It's a mystery to me too, since I'm usally getting around 35+ hours for every other class.

My actual playthrough in ME2 is around 47 hours long and still have to go to the Derelict Reaper (also 3 side missions left, Overlord, Arrival and 3/4 of Firewalker, but I don't think I'm finishing Firewalker). But is the longest I've ever played. Doing it on Insanity and going for every piece of dialogue or information in every corner of the whole galaxy. Also reached LVL30 12 hours ago.

Insanity is rather easy, I don't think it adds any time.

Don't play on Insanity. Only did it once for the achievement but that's about it. Casual/Normal is my preferred difficulty setting.

It is an interesting read. However, we're going to prove that MP can be fin in Mass Effect 3 and we're not going to drop it.

You'll only be able to get the best ending if you do all the side mission in ME3 too, which aren't all "find this guy's credit chit" or "fire up this emergency beacon"

Most of them will spawn based on the events in the main missions.

For example. Let's say that a VIP's ship is shot down and crash lands on a certain planet. You can now choose if you want to go and save this person or just let them die and alter the main missions that follows.
