Shortened post in BOLD RED.

I recently finished my first playthrough following what could be described as the generally "good" path with Alistair, Wynne, and Sten as my main traveling companions. Despite it taking 40 hours and the last two and half weeks worth of free time, I still find myself wanting to play through more and --for the first time in many years-- will be starting a second playthrough of an RPG game without modding it first. (Usually I wait 6 months to a year for the larger mod releases, which I'm certain are on their way.)

Of course, my character and travelling companions will change for this second playthrough and I have decided that Shale, Morrigan, and Zevran would make the best team... but this presents me with a small issue I'd like to rectify if possible. In the vanilla game, you cannot recruit Zevran until after you finish one of the four main questlines (or at least half of the Redcliffe one, so I understand).

So while I understand that this is a plot limitation that cannot be overcome without resorting to other means, I was curious if anyone has toyed with or otherwise had success with said other means. Does either of the following work without significant issues:

(1) runscript zz_addparty Zevran (after ordering Dog and Alistair to permenantly park their butts at camp, of course)

(2) Editing the main questline to fast forward Zevran's attack to just after Lothering through the toolset (Completely out of my league at the moment, but if someone has...)

Would much appreciate any answers the community has on this one. Since it doesn't matter which quest you undertake first, naturally Zevran has banter on all of them and it would be nice to hear them all without needing a third playthough (you made a great game, Bioware, but it's still a game and we all have outside lives too ^^).

Well the quick and dirty way would be to edit your save file so that Zevran is a recruited party member. However I'm not sure what happens when he ambushes you down the track.

Alternatively there's obviously some sort of plot flag that causes the encounter where he attacks you. If you could find that you could trigger it with a script or edit your save file so that next time you travel he ambushes you without having to complete a part of the game.

Fun times?

Thanks for the sugeestion. I hadn't thought about editing the save file itself... but I fear that will lead to more complications than it's worth. Thus far, I'm leaning towards adding Zevran through the console and removing him just before his introduction scene. Unfortunately, while I can readjust his stats/skills/attitude to match him as he left, conversations/banter will likely repeat or could cause unforeseen issues.

Thus, flagging the encounter to simply happen sooner as also suggested seems like it would be the ideal solution. I couldn't care less if I was to see the Zevran intro movie after the encounter has already occured. I'd think of it as a flashback...

Was thinking about how I might go about this yesterday and I came across the console "zz_XXX_debug" command where XXX stands for any of the main questlines such as "cir" for Circle Tower.

In it are a number of plot flags that can be triggered and it seems to me that if there was one plot flag that could be turned on (i.e. Circle Tower finished), then one traveled to get the Zevran intro and attack, that might work before returning the plot flag to it's original position.

Anyone have any experience with the debug commands and could provide insight into which setting would need to be changed? I have had no luck with finding the right flag through the TS as of yet.
