"With the Mass Effect 3[/i]: Galaxy at War system, players will fight for the survival of the galaxy against an ancient alien race known only as, Reapers, in both the single player campaign and through a suite of Mass Effect[/i] games and applications," reads a new EA press release. It suggests that players will be able to chip away at their 'Galactic Readiness' via Facebook or smartphone apps - on which progress can be browsed.

Does this mean that ME3 will be linked to Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and have 5 badly done Iphone games? I really dont like what this implies. Besides Multiplayer, we will have to link all our social networking accounts to ME3 (and therefore EA) to receive the full ME3 experience.

Remember how everyone ignored Mass Effect: Galaxy?

Yeah. That's what'll happen.

It depends on how EA does it. EA is craving your information so they can sell it to ad companies, so they will probably make it more enticing than ME Galaxy. Maybe a new weapon unlock for a FB link to ME3, and so on.

You can get that Galactic Readiness in the game, anyway. Redundant app is redundant.

Wait, wasn't ME!Galaxy just for mobile phones or something?
No wonder I missed it. Either PC or maybe XBox for other guys, but phones? Seriously ...

I haven't been on my facebook in months. A ME game for it to help increase my galactic readiness will change that.

So "Galactic Readiness" is really just a stat for metagaming your level of success in the story? Sounds incredibly gimmicky.

Yey.

I think that to get the max readiness you gotta do those facebook and iPhone games.

Not really.

It's more than likely just a different way to increase that readiness.

Because I'd be screwed otherwise, since I don't have an iPhone, and I never cared about Facebook.

It's no different than loyalty missions. Go on a mission, advance relationship with squadmate, ensure they live through the suicide mission if you make the right choices. Go on a mission, advance the war effort, ensure more lives will be saved by the end of the war.

Well, if they said it that SP is enough to get the best ending, I believe them. They most probably want to advertize their game without ruining it.

Look at it like this:
You either spend loads of time playing SP, doing every little side/fetch/collect-quest, all in the name of Galactic Readiness.
Or, you spend half that time doing hip and cool things with your friends, like playing co-op missions, or promoting ME3 on your Facebook.
You do have friends to do cool things with, right?

I better hope this is a trolling attempt.

My opinion is firm: people shouldn't be forced to venture beyond what they signed up for. In this case, the single player campaign. ME2 loyalty missions were all part of the single player campaign, if optional. The Galactic Readiness gimmick is ridiculous.

Not to mention that I absolutely despise Facebook and Apple, and I'm likely not alone in this here.

If there's a Facebook thing I might do it. It'd be nifty if it unlocks like an extra gun or something, but I doubt it'll be anything like that.

Galaxy sucks anyway. I still can't get over the decision to make character movement be done via the gyro.

Not to say I won't consider the ME3 apps, if they'll provide interesting new looks into the universe. But I sure do hope they're fully optional.

Please, the apps WILL be optional. Jezz, first it's rage against the MP "affecting" the SP and now this. Optional people

Linking your story-based games and your social networking is retarded. I play games to get AWAY from social obligations, not for them to intrude into my stories. Can't say how utterly annoying this is for me.

As for things being optional: if you get story-affecting rewards for that stuff, it's not optional. If the coolest weapon of all can only be had throught those "apps", it's almost like forcing the stuff on me.

I do agree with you actually I hate it when games try to get me to link my game to a facebook or a youtube account because I am like NO i do not want people to see stuff popping up with my progress like 'tomy90 has managed to do a drift for 1000 metres on Dirt3, can you do better?

I won't say no to the phone apps though at least that doesn't pop up on your friends walls and make you look even more of a geek lol

I suspect they will be optional only on paper. That is, you'll have to do many annoying and pointless single player quests to get a perfect result otherwise, otherwise this whole thing would be pointless from a marketing perspective.

I do believe you are correct.  They are pushing MP as hard as they can.  The fact that it CAN influence the SP game makes their statement about it not affecting it null and void.
I fear the SP will be so tedious and brain numbing that, to some who would not consider it before, make the MP a viable option.  I also fear that some of the missions will be almost impossible to complete successfully, again, forcing the SP only player into the MP.
This is just my opinion of course.
