 I encountered a curious problem with Dragon Age 2. When I loaded the game (which I have played 24 hours or so of), Windows ran a "first time" configuration thing, and when the game loaded, all the settings were at defealt and all my save games were gone. What is odd is that I played this game less than a week ago and it ran fine. Up till today, the game successfully kept my save games. 

There really hasn't been any significant software/hardware changes on my computer since the last time I succesfully loaded a save game. 

I did a bit of reading and it seems that if you save too much in Dragon Age 2, it might erase the data. I was a very active auto-saver while I played and was probably into the hundreds, so I may just be out of luck.

Unfortunately, I unknowingly did not have system restore activated, so I can't go back and see if I can retrieve the saves.

Either way, I am a bit confused and am curious if there is anything I can do

Thumbed through and couldn't find a thing. Three of the major folders were last modified yesterday at 11:50 p.m. I was up late writing a paper at that time, but that was all. I guess that's that :/

Any idea what this might be? And are there any free backup programs you might recommend so that this doesn't happen again?

The same thing has just happened to me. The saved games are present in their folder, but the launcher does not seem to recognize that they are there. My game version is 1.03, but launcher version is 1.01. But as far as I can remember, the patch was applied long ago.

for me i have just lost my save for my warrior who was level 24
dunno if its becouse i have recently upgraded my computer and so on but when i tryed to start the game it gave me message " this game has runned into an error and cant run the game please reinstall the game to play it" i did that and vóila game saves are all gone but i quess i can only plame my self of my own stupidity for trying to reinstall it :S

hmmmmm it seems the character is still saved on my account itself but game doesn't realize it??
