Will bioware store items have additional import tax to pay when going through UK customs ? Or do they normally go through without being held up ?

I was going to buy something at $75 (£48), but if additional tax and handling charges get slapped on top, it will wipe out any savings compared to buying in the UK.

Technically anything over £18 would incur import duty I recall. If it is not exempt from VAT then that will also be taken into consideration. You should be able to find that info on the government's website.

Put it this way: whether you get charged or not depends very much on how customs are working at the time; you may get charged or you may not. It is better to assume you will from a financial point than not.

Ive placed many, many orders with THBS, say over 20 atleast. I have only been hit with a fee once. There is a risk it'll get noticed, but more often then not it wont. The risk is yours!

VAT is only applied on higher value orders; I forget the exact figure but £135 (including shipping!) rings a bell. Theoretically, anything over £18 should be eligible for duty, as OBakaSama says, but it depends on whether or not customs take a particular interest in it.

That said, some couriers have developed an interest in doing it for them, because that way they get to levy their exorbitant "administration fee": DHL are probably the worst for not just being utterly pedantic but also usually getting the calculation wrong and having utterly abysmal customer service. Given a choice, I would never use DHL since I've had nothing but trouble with them.

For the record, the administration fee is a legal grey area and you can generally get them to refund it if you persist, but they can be pretty intransigent so you have to decide if it's worth your time.

HDNL (as used by Treehouse) are probably the best couriers I've experienced for not trying to rip you off at any opportunity, so unless you're very unlucky, you should be okay.

I've also placed quite a few orders for various items (10 at least) from the store and haven't incurred any addition fees. Again as said above though there are no guarantees.

OK, thanks for the info.
