So, i've been looking into mass effect 3 alot more now, and i've found out that the only squadmates in mass effect 3, in short, is no new squad member from mass effect 2. So what was the point of mass effect 2?

To me, except from stopping the collectors, finding out that collectors are protheans, and building a relationship with Cerberus, the point of mass effect 2 was to build a great team for when the reapers come. This is why your getting people like thane, the ultimate assassin, grunt, the perfect krogan, and mordin, the smartest salarian.

You recruited the to stop the collectors, and to prepare to fight with the reapers. The best evidenced i have, is when everyone survives, the epilogur show your new crew preparing for the fight against the reapers!

So why is it, that no new squad member you made in mass effect 2, comes in mass effect 3! the only point i can think of for mass effect 2, was to stop the collectors, but i could have done that with my old team, not build a massive new team.

i'm dissapointed at the fact that even though mass effect 2 was a great game, in fact, the best game out right now, it seems to be pretty pointless, towards mass effect 3. what do you think? do you agree with me? who do you want froom mass effect 2? do you see any other point of mass effect 2? REPLY! :D

The new team consisted of people whose loyalty missions had choices impacting further alliances through ME3, and the point of ME2 was to investigate the disappearance of human colonies and put an end to it.

Squadmates returning or not returning to a sequel doesn't make a game pointless, imo :)

Also, let us not forget ME2 introduced us to the Illusive Man.

Mass Effect 2 set up a lot of things for ME3, as most middle chapters do. The genophage cure, the Heretic Geth, the Quarian situation, Liara becoming the Shadow Broker, Arrival, etc...

And of course, stopping the Collectors and destroying the Human Reaper was very important. The Collectors, had they survived, could have had a large impact on the war (via plagues, seeker swarms, etc...).

i just hope they make areas u can go to (cities) bigger and not like in ME2 where u ran from point A to point B. and out of the game info ive seen on ME3, arrival was the only event from ME2 talked about.

While it was an optional sidequest, let's also not forget that the heretic geth were on the verge of releasing a virus that would convert the true geth (the overwhelming majority) to their side, and therefore to the side of the Reapers.

Strong character development from Garrus to Miranda (to name just a few) , a deeper exploration of the ME world, and setting up key plot points from the genophage cure to geth rewriting.

Oh and the formal introduction of Cerberus and TIM's motivation while also crushing a key Reaper asset.

So no it doesn't really advance the Reaper plot of ME1 but ME2 is hardly pointless.

I personally think ME2 had (gasp) better characters than ME1s. They were so much more interesting.

Is the fact that it is a great game not point enough? I am also dissappoint that I can't keep my ME2 crew. At least (aside from Tali and Garrus) Jack, Grunt and Legion. But oh well it was their decision to do what they did. I guess there are also a bunch of people who actually want new squadmates instead of the old. Some people always want new things to replace the old. *sigh*

I don't know about anyone else but I found the ending rather surprising. The whole story was meh but it was more about the side stories. Plenty of those.

yh, i guess it isn't pointless, i just feel like we've been told to build this massive team, which was basically what was the main objective was in mass effect 2, yet no squadmates from mass effect 2 made it into 3? why make us build the team then!

They do appear in ME3, just not as squadmates, or full-time squadmates. A smaller squad allows for much better squad/character interaction.

i havnt seen anything about samara being in ME3. cause if u remember she tells shephard that he/she has been a good friend and if we ever have need of her (samara) that she would come for us.

To Survive the suicide mission. The "Dirty Dozen" was assembled specifically for the Suicide Mission, end of story.

I think the OP kind of answered his/her own question.

Well to find and destroy the collector base. I don't think anyone ever says in the game that the team is meant to be built for the Reaper invasion. Actually nobody (maybe aside from optimist Shepard) expect that they ever come back from there. All of them too.

You'll get three new squadmates. Out of seven.

The point?

Mordin.

Kind of like the point of ME1 was Wrex.

Yeah, it would have been great to recruit Legion much earlier, especially since it has (they have?) some of the best dialogue and one-liners in the game.

We didn't 'recruit' Legion, we salvaged it and then it revealed it wanted to work for us.
