You say the script doesn't mention any impacts from these choices, but if you aren't willing to accept information directly from the lead designer then why are willing to accept it from an early and incomplete version of a script?

One is a future work, one is a past work. It's too late for ME2.

That said, the leaked info may or may not be correct, and I'll take ME3 as it comes, meaning I'll judge it by what it is, not by what writers and/or leaks said it should be.

People are really making this more complex than it needs to be. The purpose of ME2 was to produce a fun game to play over and over in a cool fictional and futuristic universe.

Hold on a sec. I just thought of something. If someone like Thane died, you wont be able to do his special cure side mission in ME3. The same for any other important character that could have died.[/quot)

I talked about this very thing in another thread . . .
What i believe will happen there will be place holder characters that will act as replacements for characters that
may have died in the SM

for example: If Thane died maybe the cure mission will be done with Thane's son who will then distribute it to other drell that may have the condition

Garrus dies , maybe he will be replaced by another turian like Capt. Gavorn from Omega or Sidonious if you have garrus spare him

Mordin dies they may have his student replace him or the nephew he mentioned or even Daniel

it will be done the same way that if you let Wrex die in ME1 Wreav replaced him in ME2

Someone close to that character or similar will fill in at least thats my take on it

I think the point to ME2 was to show the dark side of the galaxy, the gritty, anarchic part the Council doesn't like to talk about. Everything about ME2 is clandestine, secretive. The shiny, pristine Presidium is out of reach for us and that's coherent with the rest of ME2. I guess you could say Moria was pointless in LotR since Gandalf can die, say, at Helm, and come back later. I think it's a good part of the story, and to me so is the clandestine mission against the collectors. More so, since in ME2 we learn a great deal about our future enemies, the Reapers and Cerberus. It's nice to understand at least in part what's going on, rather than just having flying killer squids who're gonna getcha for no reason and crazy research facilities in random planets inhabited by mooks.

We couldn't have learned anything about any of that while playing for the Council, because they deny the existence of the reapers and they despise Cerberus. We have to move away from the official part of the galaxy and do it on our own. Shepard however would never resign from the Spectres and the Alliance voluntarily. There's a number of ways the change of sides could have been made, they chose one that people may not find good enough and that's fair.

And while we're operating under the radar, we may as well take a peek at those uncomfortable situations the Council doesn't want to address, namely Quarians and Krogan. I don't agree with the people who say Shepard should have resolved these issues in ME2. These are very visible, official issues, even if the Council deliberatedly ignores them, and would have a great impact in galactic policy. It doesn't fit. Compare that with the collectors: a threat noone knows anything about. That's the kind of problem an under-the-radar Shepard can solve.

As for squadmates can't do much because they can be dead. They are necessarily replaceable in a way say Anderson or the Illusive Man aren't. We will talk with Wrex or we will talk with Wreav about the Krogan princess and the lines won't differ much; but if we had to deal with admiral Mikhailovich instead of Anderson, we couldn't use the same lines.

My hopes for ME3 lie in the big issues that concern species rather than individuals.

So, i've been looking into mass effect 3 alot more now, and i've found out that the only squadmates in mass effect 3, in short, is no new squad member from mass effect 2. So what was the point of mass effect 2?

To me, except from stopping the collectors, finding out that collectors are protheans, and building a relationship with Cerberus, the point of mass effect 2 was to build a great team for when the reapers come. This is why your getting people like thane, the ultimate assassin, grunt, the perfect krogan, and mordin, the smartest salarian.

You recruited the to stop the collectors, and to prepare to fight with the reapers. The best evidenced i have, is when everyone survives, the epilogur show your new crew preparing for the fight against the reapers!

So why is it, that no new squad member you made in mass effect 2, comes in mass effect 3! the only point i can think of for mass effect 2, was to stop the collectors, but i could have done that with my old team, not build a massive new team.

i'm dissapointed at the fact that even though mass effect 2 was a great game, in fact, the best game out right now, it seems to be pretty pointless, towards mass effect 3. what do you think? do you agree with me? who do you want froom mass effect 2? do you see any other point of mass effect 2? REPLY! :D

I haven't read through every page, but the fact that none of the permanent squaddies in ME3 were permanent squaddies from ME2 doesn't mean those characters don't have large impacts in the game.

People often complain about how ME2 didn't advance the overall trilogy plot much. The thing is, ME2 introduced you to new characters, new conflicts, new problems. The whole point of ME2 was to set the scene for an incredible conclusion. Everything's about to get serious. The genophage issue is reemerging for the salarians. The quarians and geth are on the brink of war. Cerberus have now become a powerful enemy. The batarians are seriously pissed off with the Alliance. ME2 showed us a wider, deadlier, and more beautiful galaxy. And without it, we'd have far less to look forward to in ME3.

This.

Really.

Most characters in ME2 have a much bigger impact on the story itself in ME3, instead of acting like the galaxy revolves around them.

While some of their loyalty missions were nice, it'll be much more interesting to see what each and everyone of them can do to contribute in the war.

ME3 will be a great entry point for old ME2 characters.

If Mass Effect 2 was legitmently part of the story of the ME Universe then maybe some of us who see it for what it was and thats one huge side quest .  But Bioware has made it clear with all the info on 3 is that ME 2 really does not matter nor does it exist in the ME Universe . Where are the squad mates from 2 at in 3 oh thats right so far bit players to the ME 1 squad . Don't give me this sh*t about the ME 2 squad can die so that makes them cameos in 3 . Thats bull sh*t . Its clear Bioware is all but erasing ME 2 from the franchise . ME 3 is starting to sound like the real ME 2 and a direct follow up to ME 1 . At least Epic didn't do any of this dumb sh*t with Gears 2 when it came to Gears 3 .

Is it confirmed that they are all not in game for a fresh gameplay? If Miranda is there no matter what then how is it written out of existance? Even Wrex existed just he died in ME1 in default setting. So even worse case they off all squaddies in the universe they still helped Shepard through all actions in ME2. This invalidates nothing they accomplished. I doubt they'd do something so dumb as write them all out of existence between ME2 and 3 but i could be wrong.

If it was part of the story then why is the squad in ME 3 made up of the ME 1 squad . why aren't members of the ME 2 squad on it .  Epic did a trilogy right maybe Bioware needs to discuss things with Epc on how to carry a story from game to game . yeah ME 2 squad sounds like they will become bit players in 3 which is bull sh*t but hey what do you expect from a franchise that wishes it was as iconic and legendary as Star Trek and Star Wars . Thank God they can not screw up Star Wars The Old Republic like this

Has it occurred to you that maybe these characters have more important things to do than trudge around following Shepard for the whole game?

Take Mordin for example. He has an important role with regards to the whole Genophage/Krogan plotline. His role would be massively diminished if he was confined to the Normandy for the whole game. Just because they're not in your squad doesn't mean they're not important.

And frankly if you're willing to accept a leaked, early, incomplete script as the basis for your 'Bioware is writing everyone out of the game', then you should be even more willing to accept Bioware telling us that squadmates will return. But you won't, because the leaked script, despite not being complete, apparently shows you what you want to see.

Mass Effect 2 set up a lot of things for ME3, as most middle chapters do. The genophage cure, the Heretic Geth, the Quarian situation, Liara becoming the Shadow Broker, Arrival, etc...

And of course, stopping the Collectors and destroying the Human Reaper was very important. The Collectors, had they survived, could have had a large impact on the war (via plagues, seeker swarms, etc...).

Oh, give me a break. The collectors were a newly introduced and ended threat in ME2 alone. They could have not existed and it would have made no difference. What would the human reaper have done? Activated the citadel? Like that would happen after the defences have been bolstered since the last reaper tried that. Yeah, it SORT OF set up a few plot points like the Geth war, and the genophage... but those were just sidequests, and they had been going on since ME1. Not to mention, it seems that regardless of your choices, there is a set outcome for what happens in regards to them at the beginning of ME3. Arrival was really the only thing that had any significance, and not only was it a DLC, which you might not have played, but all it really did was prolonge the reaper invasion.

Yes, I know the collectors were mentioned in Ascension, but they were not a threat until ME2.

This is obvious. It would have made sweet, sweet love to the Citadel. The resulting spawn would be what the Reapers have been trying to create for untold millenia.

A reaper with an army of geth couldnt do that. What the **** is one reaper and one collector ship going to do? And apparently they didnt need the citadel anyway, because of that newly introduced alpha relay in Arrival. Even then though, the only point to arrival was to delay the reapers so you could prepare.... but it seems like no one prepared anyway in ME3... so really, there was no point in ME2.

No ****. ****ing the citadel is activating the citadel. You have to **** it to do that for **** sakes. Seriously, I like ME2 becaus of the characters, but the plot made no ****ing **** sense.

LOL. That was not euphemism. By f*ck the Citadel, I meant the Reaper would DO THE NASTY, BUMP UGLIES, PLAY SEEK AND FIND, POLISH THE DOORKNOB...need I go on?

Lol, I'm tired and it was a little joke before I went to bed. I'm rather surprised you took me seriously though.

Edit: But to actually contribute something to the thread, I will say I can understand your point about it not advancing the plot. However it does give us a bit of side information, such as the way Reapers are made. Good night Quole, don't take people too seriously.

I assumed you meant **** in the same way Sovereign ****ed the citadel. And by doing that they would allow all the other reapers to enter through. Be more specific next time, so you dont look uneducated.

Maybe it's just me, but "attack" and "sweet, sweet love" are two different things to me. Same for "f*ck and have offspring" and "open the relay."

Maybe you're just an idiot:P But someone will think we're flaming each other, so I'll take me leave before you can respond. *vanishes in a puff of dust*

This is a great post!

For me Mass Effect 2 was basically learning more about the galaxy we find ourselves in, rather than driving the main plot forward and through the stories of our companions, we do just that. Unfortunately some of those stories could have been much more than they were and could have used a little more development (time.)
