If you recruit everyone, you need 7 loyal members to keep everyone alive.

If you only have 8 squadmates, you can do it with 3 loyal members.

You'd need at least 4:
Tali - for the door hacking
Jack - for the biotic barrier
Garrus - for team leader
Mordin - to escort the crew back

Or do you not count the crew towards "everyone alive", seeing as they aren't squadmates?

Good point. So 4 if you want the crew as well.

It depends. Who dies and how?

Pick the people do to the tasks as I outlined in my above post. Then, when choosing who to take with you to the final battle, make sure you leave at least 2 out of 3 of Garrus/Grunt/Zaeed behind to hold the line. Everybody will then live.

Who dies and when and where? I have described up there what I do and everyone always lives. Well not in my first ever playthrough. You have to upgrade everything, do all loyality quests, and you have to use the right specialists. For the vent I suggest Tali, Legion or Kasumi as tech experts. Teamleader are Miranda, Jacob, Garrus. I send Mordin back with the crew when I saved them. Biotics for the barrier are Samara and Jack. Don't take Miranda even if she claims she can do it. I did that once and you can imagine how that worked out.

Send either Tali, Legion, or Kasumi into the shaft, and choose either Miranda, Jacob, or Garrus as the fire-team leader. Problem solved.

Strange... As long as it's a loyal Tali, Legion, or Kasumi, it should work. But an unloyal specialist will die, as well as a random squadmate you have with you at the time.

Serving as filler so that the "planned" trilogy actually has three games in it, instead of just the first one and the one which ends the Reaper War.

At one point i felt like arrival alone could have sufficed as a tie between 1 and 3, but 2 did give a lot to the depth of the story.

hella rite arrival as main story wouda been better tbh

Just becuase they're not in the squad doesn't mean they wont have a big part to play, we know Mordin and Wrex will for example.

Hehe, close. Actually funny enough it was Miranda's nemesis, Jack. I wanted to slap her badly after I saw Jack taken by the swarm.

For the record, Bioware said Cerberus will account for 40% of the game's enemies. If not for ME2, they would not be in that position, since ME2 introduced TIM, much of Cerberus' workings, a Cerberus color scheme and logo, etc. In ME1, I'm sure alot of people finished without even hearing a word about Cerberus. So I think their role makes ME2 a pretty big Goddamn deal.

The only things that Mass Effect 2 gave us, is more insight on Cerberus, who they are and what they possibly want. This might be important for Mass Effect 3. And Mass Effect 2 showed us how the reapers are made, so we have a small idea on who they are and where they came from.

Edit: Actually, Mass Effect 2 is quite important now I get to think of it. Most information we know about the Mass Effect universe is learned in Mass Effect 2. In ME2, we learned more about many species and organisations, including the Geth.

Let's see. Events which look like important - Genophage decision and Geth/Quarian situation. Exactly two. For ME2. Hm.

What would I like to see? At least any foreshadowing on how we're going to stop Reapers to minimize chances of getting DEM-looking ending in ME3.

I thought the point was because it was a fun game? Does it really have to be more then that? Do you only want two Mass Effect games?

And do their loyality missions. Tali's trial in the migrant fleet. And help Garrus murder get revenge on Sidonis in the Citadel.

You can send Legion or Kasumi and they'll live and you can select Miranda and Jacob to lead the teams and everyone lives as well.

I found it ironic when I brought Miranda on the long walk for two reasons:
1. The freaking robot with lightning fast reaction times and highly logical thinking just stood there shooting while it's boss told it to get the hell inside the doors, and was too slow even when it did try to run.

2. The freaking bugs that target organics carried off a robot instead of going for the organics.

That's what I wonder too. People say it was a great game, but what was the point? As if that's not the most important thing, it was a great game.

Yeah ... lol ... maybe they mistook Legion for Shepard because of the N7 armor, who knows. For all we know the seeker swarm things may be short-sighted.

Legion and Kasumi died? And you did their loyality quests? The heist and the heretics?
