The only romance worth a damn when it comes down to story, dialogue, and natural progression is Ash for MShep and Kaidan for FShep. Of course Mac Walters will get pissed when he reads this and he'll add bonus dialogue for Liara proving me wrong...
Holy Jeebus I don't have any preferred LI but whats with the rage towards brain squid? She already took a back seat in ME2.

If you break it down: Romance in ME is just 10-15 lines of dialogue and an eventual sex scene. I know ME isn't reality, but seriously, only a prostitute would be willing to sleep with you so quickly.
You should hop over to the Tali thread now and then. Every few weeks or so they'd be talking passionately about how they...err I mean their Shepards could possibly impregnate that buckethead. Methods, pillowtalk etc.
I can only hope that they show at least half that passion towards working for a living.
Another thing against the sh!tty romances is that they have absolutely nothing to do with the story. Speaking of Tali, you'd think that there would be some interesting socio-political drama about a Quarian admiral's daughter and folk hero getting romantically involved with a human starship captain(ESPECIALLY if he's Renegade and/or Pro-Cerberus) but nope, it's just pure uninspired fan service.
The reason why there is not a socio-politacal SH!T STORM is because the Quarians wouldn't know about it until ME3 and by then they are already busy tryin' to re-claim rannoch so the last thing that would be on their minds would be if shep is bumping uglies with Tally-Wally.
True Tali bein' a romance in ME2 was Fan-Service but to be fair BW was going to put Tali as an ME1 romance but they didn't because they thought that people wouldn't be interested in Ms "Chicken Legs",
how wrong they were

Liara is undoubtedly the in house favorite.
*Takes deep breath*
Romancable by both genders, can't die, and is canonically required to be on the Normandy during the events of Mass Effect. She has her own comic book mini-series continuing her story after Mass Effect which further solidifies her importance to the overall plot. She's around during the events of Mass Effect 2 in an important enough role to get her own "main mission" downloadable content but not long enough to be killed in the Suicide Mission. She takes up the mantle of Shadow Broker making her arguably the most important power player in the series'. She is a guaranteed squad member in Mass Effect 3 regardless of variables or decisions.
*Exhales*
Am I missing something?
There's more here.

I don't think the "romances" are meh, I think they're hilariously bad in 90% of cases. It amazes me that this sub-forum exists.
Not only that but they're only a tiny percentage of gametime in any given playthrough. It's just a handful of brief shallow conversations and a 1-2 minute dry humping scene. It makes the fixation a lot of these fans have on these "romances" all the more hilarious.
Says the dude with a creepy fixation on this guy:
TIM is a man amongst men. Show some respect my son.

Yeah, it would be a little better if romances weren't just some halfassed date sim minigame tacked onto the side of the game and maybe had some kind of relevance or impact.

But there's no build up to a potential sh!t storm in ME3. Neither Tali or Shepard mention the slightest hint of political ramifications of it,instead it plays out as him scoring a groupie for the night who's concerned she might catch an STD .

Perhaps it is because neither of them cares about politics?

Are you kidding me, son? At this point we're talking about a "romance" simulator in space, with a flimsy story about galactic doom wrapped around it as an afterthought. The same pretty much holds true for DA2, but in a fantasy setting.C9316 wrote...
The romances have always been in the backseat compared to the story, and I'm happy for it to stay that way.

Just popping into this thread now, but since it seems you're taking the glitch seriously: the Shadow Broker DLC provides you with an oppurtunity to look up info on TIM. Including sexual liasons. All of which are (or seem to be) female, with the exception of the Asari Consort.
Weird? Maybe not. Unusual given that information? Most would likely say so. Could be a case of If It's You It's Okay, but this is a bug that occurs if you skip the scene of Shepard walking into the 'information beacon' and not being lined up properly in regard to the camera. First time I got this bug I facepalmed... I'd have expected misalignment in position and angles, not mysterious zooming.
