Thane - a lot of emotional depth. I thought the storyline was pretty amazing.
Garrus - came out of left field and a little cringe-worthy. I just couldn't get into it.
Jacob - a lot of people say that he is Kaidan II. I don't know about that. Jacob seemed very boring. I got irritated with his "I want to talk about not talking" thing.
Miranda - Not bad overall but it needed a little more depth. It felt like it was always about her genetic tailoring.
Liara - totally true about her being interested because of the Prothean and the Cipher thing. I think she does truly admire Shepard for who she/he is but that's the side part, not the main part.
Tali - It was sweet. Sort of like a young girl on her first romance. It lacked real depth.
Kaidan - Aside from Thane, my personal favourite. I could simply be biased but I rather enjoyed being able to have long discussions with him in ME1. He had good thoughts, a nice backstory.
Ashely - can't comment.

Are you kidding me, son? At this point we're talking about a "romance" simulator in space, with a flimsy story about galactic doom wrapped around it as an afterthought. The same pretty much holds true for DA2, but in a fantasy setting.C9316 wrote...
The romances have always been in the backseat compared to the story, and I'm happy for it to stay that way.
If you compare content, I'd say romances are at least 20%. That's not much for a game that relies heavily on crew members.. The romances may be the most talked about thing, but that doesn't mean they make up a majority of the content.

Also the "romances" are like 3 dialogues in 5 minutes in a 30 hour playthrough. Yet people seem more concerned with those 5 minutes then the rest. When I see those 100 page threads about romances I get to urge to ask "are you sure you guys wouldn't rather play a dating sim?"

I agree the romances just seems like an afterthought. Some lines are good but no depth whatsoever. Compare with DAO were the LIs actually have a personality.

Are you saying Mass Effect 2's LIs don't have personalities? You're wrong there, pal. But I agree with you on the rest, People should care more about how to destroy the reapers then how to spend time with your girlfriend/boyfriend, although the 5 minutes of the romance are very nice scenes, they're not the best these games have to offer, contrary to popular belief.Yezdigerd wrote...

Indeed, they should be making 100+ page posts about how there should be real choices and a branching narrative not about some crappy tacked on fan service.

And therein lies the problem: we've actually reached the point where Bioware can ship an inferior product, but as long as there's enough romances a decent amount of people won't complain because they've still got their "pwecious romances".Laser Beam wrote...

That's ridiculous considering their telemetric data shows that most people don't even do the romances.
It's also ridiculous considering if that were the case, they'd make the romances a larger percentage of the shipped content (and not the drop in the bucket that it is currently).

Is that actually true? I don't know anyone in RL who plays ME and never did a romance, and it seems that the majority of people on the BSN certainly do them.jlb524 wrote...

Drop in the bucket? Huh maybe you want to trade?
Are we playing the same game?
Are you ignoring all the people complaining that the ME romances suck cuz they are only a few lines of dialog? Because...that's really all they are.
I don't know...it seems I spent most of ME1 effing around in the mako and most of ME2 shooting stuff.
By 'effing around in the mako' I dont' mean sex either.

That is what their data says according to Priestly, I think.
The BSN is a minority of ME players and it seems people who like to talk about characters, story, and romance flock here.
Most play the game once and don't give anything a second thought...or even beat the game.

Doesn't change the fact that a sizable amount of people get these games for just the "romances". A large amount of BSN's gay community even seems to be in it for just that, as many of you automatically talk ill of any rpg thay doesn't dare to include (gay) romances.jlb524 wrote...
