So, I created this  thread but I don't want to be banned for spoilers, so I'm moving it to here. Gonna add here my two posts from the previous thread for those that did not read it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A possibly interesting experience...

Post 1:
So, I've never played any game from the DA series, I know nothing about
the story or the characters, but since DA2 was 50% off on the black
friday, I got the whole package, DAO Ultimate and DA2. The only thing I
know about those games is that some people don't like the "path" DA2
took. So I decided to make some kind of log of my experience with these
games while I wait for ME3. I believe I'll be unbiased since the few
gameplay videos and reviews I watched didn't say much about any of them.
Let's see how will I feel about these games... Will I get "connected"
to the characters? Will I get the same feeling some people seems to have
about DA2? Only time will tell. Tonight, I'm gonna play DAO for the
first time. Then I'll post my first entry on this log. I believe it'll
be interesting to see how my views and expectations might change allong
the way... Since probably all of you already played both games, I hope
you don't give me any spoilers. I'll try to make some guesses about the
story and the characters, and some of you might get crazy to say things
like: "Oh, I remember when I felt that..." or "He can't be more
wrong..." or even "How did he know that? He obviously read something and
spoiled himself".... But no, I wont read any guide or anything like
that. I'll make my decisions based only on what I think is right, not
because character x or y might live/die because I chose that... I'll try
to tell you about my decisions and while for me will be like be my own
lab rat, for you it will be like watching a movie where you see the
person making the wrong choice and you cant say anything.

I know
that many people say Bioware always makes the choices useless... No
matter what you choose, in the end the result will be almost the same...
People are saying that about ME3, and uses DA2 as a reference, but
that's ok for me. I'll just play these games to wait for ME3. Let's see
if I will be waiting for DA3 after I play them, or if I will just regret
having paid about $50 for them. Image IPB

Post 2:
Well, I've been so busy that only a few minutes ago I could have 30
minutes of gameplay. Started with DAO (had the choice of DA Awakening,
but I suppose it's some kind of expansion pack to DAO). First thing I
noticed: OUTSTANDING soundtrack, but I hope it's not just in the
begining of the game. Created a humam male warrior for the first
walkthrough. The intro video had a very Lord of the Rings feeling (which
I like), with the orchestral song and the voice narrating the story...
if it were narrated by Christopher Lee the game would become epic even
before the start.

Good voice work. Bioware is really good at
this. And I liked the fact that the options of conversation are not
writen in red or blue indicating which one you should pick, if you know
what I mean.

As for the gameplay, I just walked a little and
talked to one of the guards. Looks like old school RPG mixed with some
RTS. My favourite rpgs are Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VII. Let's
see how it compares...
Since this is a "NO Spoilers allowed" thread I
will not say too much of what I do... but there is one character that I
already don't trust... His behaviour seemed suspicious, and it got even
more suspicious when the "unexpected visitor" walked in...

I
might move this thread to an outside blog so I will be able to talk more
freely, without concerns of being banned for spoiling (I hope that
little "suspicious" thing I said doesn't get "tagged" as spoiler). Ok,
have to go now. Gonna Image IPB

And yes awakening is an expansion

One thing you may be interested in. Awakening can be started without importing your character, you'll just create another one from a neighboring country. And start at level 20.

Yes, I also love the soundtrack.

I love this! It's like playing DA:O all over again for the first time...

(Though I have to say hearing Tim Curry's voice should make you suspicious enough. The villains in DA:O are actually well-depicted as such early on... but then again, I could just be playing with your mind...)

Don't trust anybody!

Regarding DA2 hatred: I only started DA2 a few months ago, after reading a lot of DA2 hate here, and so my expectations were quite low. Some things I can confirm, a few things genuinely make me mad, but overall it was a more pleasant experience than what I had expected after the widespread and passionate hating.

Recommendation: Read the codex and item descriptions. Both not only provide valuable information, but expand the whole experience.

I keep getting disconnected from the servers... My internet connection is working well, still I have to retype my password and reconnect every 5 minutes or so...

I'm not going to spoil anything, but how do you feel about Cailan's view of the darkspawn and whether or not this large horde is a blight or merely a large raiding force?

(dragonflight288 , love the sig. line!)

Thanks ladyshaman. I like it too.

Diego - Do you have to stay connected in order to play? I don't have the Ultimate Edition, so I can just ignore the alert, stay disconnected and play as well, but I don't know about the UE...

Well, Cailan seems like a fool. Those darkspawn almost took over the place in the past, and they probably are prepared to do so now.

The problem happens during the game, as Marvin guessed, not here in the forums as esper probably thought. I managed to make it save my password, so it logs in again by itself. The problem is that no screenshot is uploaded, and I think the achievments might not upload too. At least the first and only achievment I got was uploaded (so far, so good), but not even one single screenshot.

As for the game, I must go to work now but I'm gonna play a little tonight. I'm in the wilds with Alistair and 2 other  guys. I'm playing in "nightmare" so the first real enemies (not the wolves) we've encountered killed us right away. Gonna have to find a better strategy. Their archers (or something that looks like it) are the main problem. Please, don't give me any tactical advice, wanna try to find the best one myself.

So see you later guys.

Just so you know, you don't have to be connected all the time. If you connect later on, it will upload your accumulated achievements (and I guess your screenshots if you set it to).

Ah, well. Yes, I thought you meant here...
But as EternalAmbiguity said, you don't have to be connected to play. The game/site upload all the throphies when it does connect and once you have downloaded and installed the dlc they are there for good. At least it works that way on playstation so I assume that it works so for pc as well.

Well, so the only problem is that annoying message telling me it cant connect to the servers popping up every 5 minutes. The option to take screnshots and send them automaticaly are set. But no screenshot has been uploaded yet. At least the achievments will be.
Thanks guys.

Not to keep harping on this, but you can turn it off (auto-login) in the settings>account. You'll have to log in manually but you won't see that.

Yeah, I'm just disappointed the screenshots wont upload themselves... But this little problem won't take the fun out of the game. So far, it's a nice game. Except for the combat mechanics. I've put all characters in aggressive mode, and sometimes they still just stand there doing nothing for a few seconds... And it's hard to run away when needed. But I think I'll adapt and find ways... After all, I'm playing on nightmare, it's not supposed to be easy.
Today I'll get out of work sooner, so I hope I can make some progress in the game.

I know we aren't supposed to give tactical help, but IIRC hitting "Ctrl-A" (or whatever you have defined in the options) selects the whole party, if you want to move everyone into or out of a danger zone.

Read the descriptions of every behavior (default, aggressive, ranged, etc.) attentively. However, there are some bugs there that makes them act erratically sometimes. I won't tell you what behavior is best for whom, better you find out yourself...

Tim Curry's voice did it for me. The man is nearly ALWAYS a villan. Despite his incredible awesomeness and sex appeal in a corset.

Aw, c'mon, with THAT face??

(I had the advantage that my first playthrough was as Dalish Elf, so I met him when he was already well established... but of course, playing as a Human Noble, he has a lot more... psychological leverage.)

This is so fun, with posting your progress and thoughts, you have a whole personal tech and story support at your hands...

So, it turns out King Cailan was just plain stupid! And, I had to lower the difficultu level... Come on! How am I supposed to take a tower when there is at least 10 darkspawns surrounding my "team". I managed to get past the first level in Nightmare, but in the second level, when you get near to the final objective and there is that giant "monster", I just could not find a way to do that. I did killed some by atracting them to some other place, but soon I got outnumbered. They were just too strong. There was not enough "powers" that could lower their numbers... I even tried to close the doors in a room so I could try and deal with just 5 or 6 darkspawns at a time, but they opened it again, and I got surrounded again. Anyway, playing on easy now... It's like playing on God Mode, but at least I'll have time to learn how to use all the different strategies and such.

Back to the game for 30 more minutes, then bed.
