This is fun, it reminds me of discussing the game with my friends who played it after me. I chose a male Cousland warrior first as well, it will be interesting to see how your character's story will play out, and what decisions you'll make.

I say play on Normal. I played on Normal myself the first time. It's usually pretty easy, but you DO have to be careful.

And when it comes to controlling squad members, don't forget that you can pause the game at ANY TIME with Spacebar.

I think that the backstory that was originally on the Dragon Age website about the human noble origin talked about a betrayal on the eve of battle. So once I started playing the game as a Human Noble he seemed like he was the most obvious candidate, especially with his "We're about to betray you soldiers" voiced soldiers.

The game is freezing as soon as Leliana gets in the group in Dane's Refugee. The screen to choose the characters shows up, but I cant get anyone different in the group. When I get back it freezes!

EDIT: despite the fact that the game did freeze several times in the same situation, as I was writing this post the game worked again! Don't know what caused any of the situations...

wish I could help you. I play on the xbox.

Glad to hear you're having fun...minus technical issues. Kind of like my first time playing as a human mage in the game.

Going from nightmare to easy, aren't you a little drastic in your choices? I will say play on normal.
Hope you techinical issuies goes away. So you have come to Lothering then...

What do you think of Sten? Good, bad?

Edit: And Leliana, of course. Sten moreso though, for to-be-apparent reasons.

Yeah, it's on normal already, and I plan on increase the difficulty level as I go forward and get used to using strategies (like pausing the action, analyzing the battlefield, who attacks who, etc...)

Is Sten the qunari that was in the cage? I feel like he is a good person that probably had to do something terrible. A little bit like Thane from ME2.

There's nothing wrong with scaling difficulty down. You aren't competing against anyone.

I started on Normal, then went up to Hard about halfway through when combat became boring, then to Nightmare for my second playthrough. All characters are pretty weak at the beginning. The harder, the more you have to think strategically, but it also becomes more complex (friendly fire) and interesting.

The "pause" key is your friend.

Concerning good vs. evil, the game makes a point of using shades of gray for most characters. (including YOU!) Even "nice" companions have their "berserk buttons"... you'll find out.

Don't expect a game like Knights of the Old Republic or Mass Effect where things are obvious dark side/light side or paragon/renegade. Your companions will approve or disapprove of what you do, but there will be no bar dictating morality. You can do pretty extreme things, but do so thinking you're doing the right thing. And there are reasons for it. Valid ones.

Not going to spoil anything, But don't take what anyone in the game says at face value. They are human (elven and dwarven) characters with flaws like ignorance, ambition, being judgemental, and etc.

I recommend reading the codex's (if the topic interests you), reading who wrote it (seeing if the source is unbiased or not...there are actually biased codex entries in the game) listen to what your companions say, and make a decision based on how you personally feel about it. Are you right or wrong? Can't say, but you just move forward.

Yeah, I noticed that grey thing on the game. I had to threaten the "Revered Mother" to get the key and Alistair got really pi***d off. My character has two major enemies and one mission. The enemies are Howe and Loghain (they must die by his own hands). The mission is to stop the darkspawn... Anything or anyone who stands between him and those objectives will suffer the consequences.

Have you decided whether you're going to go for Morrigan or Leliana yet? It's best to decide early, because some of the flirt dialogue options can pop up in the first couple conversations.

Or you can go with both, and one of them will comment on the apparent infidelity. You can then choose to lie about it and they catch you on it later. Happened to me on my first playthrough.

THis is funny, same sort of character I decided to start playing this time through (going to go straight rom DAO to Awakenings to RtP)

This is neat reading.  Had a friend that picked up DAO, started playing it but dropped it.....he decided to pick it up agian over Thanksgiving break and loves it now....he's doing so many things in game that I never would have done, so it's fun to hear about. :)

Origins does feel like it was written with a human noble warden in mind, but my main was an arcane warrior mage.

Playing through the Korcari Wilds and Tower of Ishal is so much different (and easier) with a healer mage on hand. That's only possible if playing as a mage warden.

Just a tip...once you leave Lothering, consider doing the Broken Circle questline first.

Sten is an interesting companion once you get to know him. At first, I struggled getting approval with him, but then I cheated and looked up the approval guide on the wiki site.

Leliana makes for a good archer and lockpicker. In 99% of my playthroughs, she was the love interest of my wardens.

I agree with doing the Broken Circle first. And I hate when I don't have time to play. It feels like part of my day is missing.

I am torn on agreeing with them about broken circle first, or going to Redcliff first, as Alistair wants.

definitely do Broken Circle first, if only to get the annoying parts of it out of the way immediately.

What those annoying parts are, you'll find out as you play.
