Sometimes I feel that I should have convinced Alistair to have the Dark Ritual... But I don't know... Letting a witch walk away with a baby archdemon in her arms, doesn't feel like a good idea... It's unfortunate that Alistair will have to die though...

You know – even with Riordan dead, Alistair isn't the only Grey Warden in Denerim...

(though this would skip a lot of good dialogue afterwards... so I wouldn't recommend that route for the first playthrough...)

Alistair is a good friend that will be missed! :D And I sent Avernus to exile... Don't know if he would do anything other than keep with his witchcrafts...

One hour later and...? LOL

I'm guessing you are either wrapping up the fight or going through all the ending-goodness. Best part of DAO, for me, was the endings. I'm a sucker like that.

or he's sleeping. Because DAO is just that good. You can play it for days on end and when you finally do manage to put it down, you immediately crash on your bed Image IPB

Lol... yeah, I was watching the ending... When the credits rolled up, I went for some brunch...
What can I say about the game? A masterpiece. And maybe that's why people didn't DA2 that much. It's hard to make a second masterpiece as good as the first. The Godfather (the movie) is an example. People probably expected something as great as the first game. This will never be made. I'll make a more detailed post about what I thought later... Now, gonna get some rest.

Eh I think it was definitely possible to make DAII surpass DAO. DAO was far from perfect for me, both in terms of gameplay and story.

DAII's problems were with its concepts. It had great concepts but horrible implementation, and as a result the game wasn't that good.

But this isn't a thread meant for talking about DAII. It's great that you enjoyed DAO! What are your plans now? Are you going to play the expansion Awakening or are you going to try out a different origin story?

While it is possible, it seems like Diego really enjoyed making the different choices in DAO. He took some unique ones that it took me a couple playthroughs to even consider.

Many who play DA2 the first time are shocked by the lack of same feeling of choice. Not to say it isn't there, but you really have to dig for it.

But this is not the proper venue for this kind of discussion, we'll ruin it for Diego.

What's next? Awakenings? Or some DAO DLC? Or are you going to skip straight into DA2?

Better is always possible...as it is worse, problem is how do you engage on the problems and concepts, so yeah basically if you have a silly implementation, you screw the project altogether.

Still I differ in the concepts being great, specially the fighting...I just can't get around it but guess is because I suck at it or think I'm doing it wrong somehow...

Okay, quick comment about DAII and then it's done.

DAII could've definitely had the same feeling of choice Origins had. It actually could've had a much better feeling of choice. DAII didn't have to be a linear story, despite what many people think. The framed narrative idea actually restricted very little about the story.

But I don't want to spoil it for Diego, so I'll leave it at that. I'm either gonna get some sleep or finish up my current chapter for my DAO fanfic.

As for the game, my next step will be Awakening... Then Witch Hunt and DA2.
Will let Leliana's Song for another time...

Glad you enjoyed DAO. However it might habe been interresting to sacrifice yourself, the epilogue concerning Leliana (romanced and unhardened) was so sad, I had to cry, honestly.

I was just curious! Even my first run took me three and a half months to complete...
(and I started my second run half an hour after finishing the first... "MOAR! MOAR!")

I'm impressed!

The self-sacrifice end scene is beautiful (especially as a mage, I think). It was my Leliana playthrough as well. But I think for the first time, the coronation "reception" is more rewarding.

Ok... Just got to work. Will try to summarize everything while things don't get stacked in my desk.
DAO was great, a rip off of Lord of the Rings, but still great. The ending with Alistair killing the archdemon was a little bit less emotional than I thought it would be. At the coronation, I talked to Leliana and we "decided" to go to a "roadtrip" together... When I went to the door to be applauded by the crowd.... nothing happened... that was really disappointing. Then a simple "slideshow" telling what happend after the battle. Alistair was barelly mentioned while Loghain got a statue because his daughter wanted?!? (WTF?!?) What about the guy who gave his life to save her sorry a**???

Ok, then I went to Awakening... I hanged Nathaniel (yes, I know he could become a powerful ally, but so did Loghain, and I beheaded him), and I promised Howe that I would kill his entire familly. I keep my promises! But, after playing almost 8 hours of Awakening, I felt like it was just a cheap attempt to continue the original story. Where was Leliana? She went away with my warden, then she just vanished???? And a talking darkspawn that pretends to be polite but turns elves, dwarves and possibly humans into his minions, and still try to kill me sending hordes of "regular" darkspawn... I don't buy that. Then I "cheated", went for a guide to know what Awakening was about. Architect?!? F*** off... I would kill him, doesn't matter what.
So after becoming very frutrated with Awakening, I decided to "skip" straight into DA2. Played about half an hour before coming to my job. The hi-res textures and DX11 really make up for a good eyecandy experience. The combat mechanics is (IMO) way better than the original. Now I can attack, run, make some cool stunts, that wasn't possible in DAO. I imported the save from DAO, not from Awakening. In DAO my warden was in level 19, while in Awakening he was at level 24 already. But I read somewhere that Awakening has a bug that doesn't import the flags as it should, so I went for the Origins save, right after the ending credits.
I can't say too much about DA2 yet. The only sad thing is that the hottest woman so far is Hawke's sister... In this case (and ONLY in this case), incest doesn't look so bad. And what happened to Flemeth? Ok, she can morph into a dragon... But why would she morph into a "hot female demon" while she was an old woman in the first game?

PS.: My Hawke is a Male Rogue.

It's a bit sad pretty much nobody cares about anybody else doing the ultimate sacrifice, it's like... "Alistair commited suicide to save us all, let's celebrate the Warden!". I remember a lot of people were confused by it back when Origins was the hot stuff too, though I don't think they wanted the ending to be a huge downer and kill the mood.

Glad I never did Alistar sacrifice then, but somehow it doesn't surprise that Anora would want to down play his part and make Loghain a hero...
Everything looks different because the graphic team updated the graphic between the two games. That means that flemeth for example has her own design instead of just the generic old woman look.... The elves and kossith (Sten's race) looks wildly different too.

I too was disappointed about the ending if Alistair died. He should get the statue, IMO. And I love the combat in DA2. Mages don't just stand there pointing their staff--zap zap. Rouge's kick and flip. Love it! And, the more friends, the better :)

I hope you enjoy DA2! It's a flawed game but I'm really fond of it. Good to hear you're having a good time with it so far.

I haven't done an ending where I sacrificed Alistair yet. I almost did that on accident but found out at the last minute what would happen and decided to do the dark ritual to avoid it. (Alistair was my romance in the game, so I couldn't bear to kill him off, but I used him a lot in my party, so...yeah.) I'm sorta glad I didn't now, if THAT'S how he ended up...

Never sacrificed Alistair. Even when I let Loghain live, I married Alistair off to Anora. Boy, was he pissed...

Nathaniel was my favorite companion in Awakening. Not that companion interaction was as extensive as in DA:O...

Now I'm quite curious how you'll handle people in DA2...

Also, IMO Awakening had better eye-candy than DA:O (Wending Woods...), and any scenery was easily more beautiful than DA2's Wounded Coast... (Now, I'm not gonna talk about elves. In fact, we're not gonna talk about elves at all...)

I didn't like the combat in DA2. First time, I played as a warrior, and the constant CLANG CLANG CLANG AARGH! (critical hit) CLANG CLANG CLANG got on my nerves. Better not get me started about tactical combat... (There is exactly ONE tactic in DA2: get everyone out of the "drop zone" ASAP!) But let's not derail this thread.

I loved DA2 Flemeth. Can't say too much right now, because... well, later. The Amulet. Terrence Malick. Later.
