Shepard has the same issues. The galaxy is just too big to wrap his mind around. Even humanity is so large that he can fail to see the forest due to the trees. A personal relationship though brings it all into focus. It gives him even more to fight for, a greater reason to succeed.

This is full of truth.

It depends on everyones personal "headcanon". Some see Liara as the reason why Shepard still fights. Others say the same about Garrus, Tali, Jacob, Ashley, Miranda, Thane or Jack.

In my case it's Ashley, even with all the stuff that went wrong / might go wrong between both. Sometimes it's worth to fight for something and in that case it's just a bit of love.
