The point of Witch Hunt was to let the Wardens who romanced her get a decent romance conclusion, which the base game sorely lacked. Also, the money.

I romanced Morrigan, thought she was a great character, and I had no problem with the ending in Origins. In fact I vastly preferred it to Witch Hunt which not only didn't seem genuine to me, but it didn't even come close to my imagination.

My god...you are all cynical as hell.

While monetary reasons are also involved for the DLC, I am somewhat agog that no one is thinking long term...

So Witch Hunt didn't set up Dragon Age II as you hoped it would.

So what?

Does it make sense to see Morrigan after ten years, considering the fact that she is supposed to possibly RAISE A BABY in that time. Why the heck would we see her in the second game? Or the baby? We don't need a reminder other than the fact that she was either looking for a way to fulfil her promise to the Warden, or raise the darn baby away from the world.

And even if the baby is not a part of the experience, the dialogue between her and the Warden during Witch Hunt is significant in regards to the overall story. You know, the thing that BIoware is touting for multiple games. The thing that is driving people to play Dragon Age as a series?

That thing that everyone seems to forget about.

And don't say it's not significant, the default origin story for Dragon Age II involves the ritual, the DLC hints at the possible changes that occur during Game 2 (possibly at least, considering the timeline puts this during the second year Hawke is at Kirkwall.), and the fact that the Warden and Morrigan are referenced several times during 2 doesn't downplay their significance to this story yet.

I don't know, it just seems foolish to say it has nothing to do with the games. The point is to set up, and hint at, big things coming down the road, not just to finish a romance or make some extra cash. And it is especially not, as some of you so nicely put it,  serves no point or is a missed oppertunity. That is just pure ignorance.

this was the whole point of the dlc.
As for Morrigan and the warden showing up as  a boss fight, well that just feels like an obvious and rather cheap cop out.

good point!<_<

Ignoring the anti-DA2 vitriol in the OP, and looking to answer the question in the thread title - the point of the DLC is the continuation of lore and character arcs.

I can't put it as eloquently as LinksOcarina, but if we break down some of the things seen or learned in Witch Hunt, we have the foundation for elements of DA2 and the DLC and future games to come.

- first appearance of a Varterral
- the History of Cad'halash (which pertains to a thaig....hmmm...)
- more insight into how Eluvians might function
- hints about Arlathan
- all manner of hints, clues, and funny stuff in the books found in the Circle's library
- also, according to the wiki - "Additional dialogue between two magi in the library involves a group of Ferelden refugees in Kirkwall and the Free Marches, referencing the setting of Dragon Age II"

Witch Hunt shouldn't segue into DA2. It's not meant to. It's part of the Warden's story, whereas DA2 is Hawke's story. And yet both stories are part of the grander narrative that is about the Dragon Age universe. We're just getting chapters. They inter-relate based on the characters and the world, but these chapters are separate pieces of the whole.

I think the main point with With hunt was only to those that romanced morrigan, but for those that didn´t then it was not that importent considering that it made the Warden storyline open in the end.

In the ending you get information from morrigan that regards the upcomming conflict between mages and templars but also that Flemeth is planning something that makes morrigan afraid.

then in the ending i got just the feeling that there is another adventure for the warden and that is concerning flemeth and (s)he must stop her. Perhaps there was a clue in the book that morrigan left behind what flemth was planning.

I still can't get over the fact that some people are whining about paying the devs just over minimum wage for ONE hour's worth of work, for ONE person, which obviously took months to develop. Build a bridge and get over it, folks.

I thought that Witch Hunt was very average but I forgave it because I thought that it was setting up events for DA2...... & we all know how that went.

IIRC by the time WH came out we already knew DA2 wasn't going to feature Morrigan or the baby in any meaningful way.

It was average because of Morrigan. Without Morrigan it would have been far below average.

Seems rather eloquent to me ;-)

I liked Witch Hunt with all its foreshadowing. It hints at events with a scope beyond that of those which unfold in either DA:O or DA2, as does DA2 on numerous occasions. It would be great if we could get something of a trilogy centered around one protagonist and his/her involvement in these grand events (like the BG series) starting with DA3.

See, I am expecting more than a trilogy...I have a feeling it will take 5-6 games for the Dragon Age to be complete, as it were.

Then we move on to whatever the next age is.

Every time i think about DA future, i imagine it as this, a long franchise. There is so much of this world to see, so much lore, that to end in 3 games is just a waste.

I find myself imagining my waiting for the new DA in 2021.

But i also fear that this may not be the case, since DA3 will cover a huge amount of Thedas, fear that they are rushing things a little bit.

Still, on topic, for me WH as lore DLC was good, not fantastic but good. Lots of hints in things to come that kept me thinking. And as for someone who loved Morrigan from the first sight (and hearing), it was a great DLC (of course from this, you know how it ended for me).

Bioware has already said that Morrigan history is far from over, that she is a key component to things to come, and things like the Eluvian Mirror is one of then, i think we can bet we may hear something from her if they make a future DA2 dlc focused on Merril/elves.

I just hope that they don't listen to some things is this topic and make her and the Warden a boss fight, jezzz, i would not be able to do it, would simple do an ALT+F4 and never play it again. :pinched:

And plz, dont ever put someone else to dub her other then Claudia Black. Actually, bring her to some events!!

i dont see how anyone expected otherwise, its not like ME where it deals with 1 or more threats( not sure havent learned enough about it) and 1 protaganist. where DA is based around the world of Thedas, multiple threats, and probably many PCs involved or affected by the choices made.

i thought WH was pretty decent(much like the rest of the dlcs) but it was because you see what happens to your warden(if alive) and what Morrigan is up to or what it sounds like she is planning to do

I imagine the DA franchise to last 4-5 games, depending on how well DA3 sells of course. DA3 will deal with the mage/templar war primarily while setting up the events that lead to whatever Flemeth has planned. I imagine DA4 will take place ten years or so after the end of DA2 (So 20 years after DAO) and feature Morrigan's son as a companion. This son might be an OGB depending on choices in DAO, but might also not be one. Either way, this game should follow the lead up in DA3 and deal with Flemeth and Morrigan.

I think that DA3 will tackle more than the mage-templar war and get the Flemeth/Morrigan plotline in full swing. DA3 needs to restore the series to its former glory, and a story rich in Thedas lore is the easiest way to do that. A lot of fans would be disappointed if we got a third game that does not answer at least some of the key elements of foreshadowing in DA:O and DA2.

I want to see what's in Legacy expanded upon - it added a lot to the table in the lore and future possibilities departments. I've got a hunch on where the whole thing is going to end up going, but I want to see it actually unfold (and get a few curveballs thrown at me along the way).

I also imagine the Mage-Templar War and the Witches of the Wilds will play vital roles in the grand scheme of things - it'll all come together into an earth-shattering whole somewhere down the line. I hope it will be glorious.

Change is coming to the world, and I doubt Morrigan was simply referencing mages duking it out with templars. It sounded much more significant than just some humans deciding to do battle with each other over politics.

To me, the most important part of WH is when you ask Morrigan about what she wants. Her response is "What I want is... is unimportant now", delivered in a very eager yet sad tone. We have no idea what she might want aside from simply surviving, but obviously going beyond the Eluvian and possibly having the OGB are parts of that. But what we see here is her choosing duty to something we don't know about over the life she'd personally like to lead. Such choices are not made out of selfishness, rather selflessness. What does Morrigan know, and what does Morrigan oppose, which makes her selfless?

I believe Witch Hunt may be very important. Not perhaps in itself, but in the way it foreshadows what is to come in DA at a later date.

I'd just like to know why there was a big fuss over Witch Hunt originally not having a post-content auto save? Nothing beyond Awakening had any effect on DA2.

I wouldn't mind seeing Morrigan and the child returning at some point due to their potential as significant players in Theadas' future. What became of Morrigan after she went through the eluvian? What becomes of a child born with the soul of an old god? I'd like to see what Morrigan does with whatever knowledge she gained beyond the eluvian.

Cash-in. Brent Knowles wasn't even involved with creating DLC, so they probably handed those projects over to Mike Laidlaw.

The real problem with Witch Hunt isn't its impact in the world of Thedas, but its LACK of impact in the real world.

It was a small DLC, released just a few months before DA2 came out. It didn't feature any unique gameplay, introduced new characters that were not memorable or well received, visited locations that were mostly rehashed from other DLC/Awakenings and, apart from the final scene with Morrigan, was mostly forgettable.

So how will a DLC that only sold a handful of copies be incorporated into DA3, a game that takes place 10 years or more after DAO came out and will be released likely in 2013, three years after this DLC? There are those people who played DAO and DA2 and have no idea what Witch Hunt even was. They'd almost need to rehash the events of Witch Hunt in DA3 if they planned on using events from it.

I'd personally like to see a DLC/Expansion for DA2 that was substantial and did a lot to tie up the dangling threads between DAO/Awakening/Origins DLC and DA2. I mean, for anyone to say Golems of Amgarock was going to feature into DA2's gameplay (as it was suggested on these boards many times) was seriously off base, except for one surprise by a certain Archmage. But that was the expectation... that characters, events, locations and story elements from the previous game were going to, you know, come into play and be a part of the gameplay.

Such a release would give continuity to the series, give a touch base on a lot of old questions, give those who wanted more DAO cameos something to chew the cud on and, overall, make DA2 feel like a sequel, not a stand-alone chapter.

However, given that the only thing I've heard from any devs is plans for DA3, I'd say the chance of this coming out instead of them working solely on DA3 and the occasional small DLC is slim to none.

Mike Laidlaw was not involved in the Origins DLC. The Lead Designers were:

Witch Hunt - Ferret Baudoin

Fernando Melo - Leliana's Song

Rob Bartel - Darkspawn Chronicles

Rob Bartel and Ferret Baudion - Golems of Amgarrak

Mike is not to blame for the Origins DLC.

As someone who was trying to have a legitimate conversation, I find the above post to be a bit offensive.

That said, the future of the Dragon Age franchise is still very much unclear, other than the fact that its going to appear to be in multiple parts of Thedas, likely to do with the Mage/Templar conflict and will happen most likely after DA2 is complete (not during or before). How one DLC, even a DLC as central to the main narrative as Withc Hunt, will fit into that picture is very much unclear. But it will likely either be swept to the side or find itself a very nice set of Plot Armor.

The way I took WH, it wasn't there to do anything but perhaps allow the Hero of Ferelden a new ending. That was the only intended impact. The rest was just tons of foreshadowing. And foreshadowing does not need to be repeated in a future game. When certain plot twists come up in future games, some gamers will simply be completely surprised while others go "oh yeah, I had anticipated this ever since playing that DLC for the first game."

Whether that's a good enough idea to base an entire paid DLC off, that's up to you =)
