Hehe Jeanette from Bloodlines, huh? Yeah, she's a great character. She and (Smiling) Jack are probably my favorites from that game. However, I hate to be pedantic (actually I love it), but they are not protagonists.

Pretty much all the protagonists I really like, have already been mentioned in this thread, except for a couple.  Cole Phelps.  I really grew sympathetic towards Cole Phelps at the end of L.A Noire.  Such a tragic story and he seemed like such a likeable fellow.  Also one of the best endings ever for a video game.

What makes them great protagonists as well is that they are not some super soldier or wierd fantasy character. They are just regular people thrust in extraordinary circumstances.

A sizeable portion of both Max Payne 1 and 2 involve Mona, her sister, and her entire purpose in the stories to search for revenge. Not to mention her direct involvement with Max and his own story. So yeah, she is. Jack too has a personal connection to one of ME2's antagonists, and depending on how you play she too has a close to to the story's main character.
