Well I destroyed the collector base and there remains. But I believe if I saved it; it would at least make a cameo appearence in ME3. I feel bummed out the collectors wont make a return in some form to my knowledge from what i've heard. Can someone at least CLARRIFY WITH EVIDENCE TO BACK IT UP FROM SOURCES; that they will/won't return in ME3. Please.

The collectors on the collector station die regardless of whether or not you destroy the base. There may have been other collector cruisers on patrol when you raided the base. So it is possible that some collectors survive somewhere in the galaxy.

We'll see what happens when the game comes out, won't we.

They will definitely make a reappearance if you play ME2 again.

I thought it was stated clearly the Collector General acted as relay between the rest of the Collectors and Harbinger. Since the General died, that connection does no longer exist. Also Harbinger abandoned the Collectors. They'll simply starve to death or don't receive any new commands so they're not acting on their own.

The Collectors are dead.

Ehhh, maybe not. The collector's are neutered, but there are always open space to have some remnants come back in some way.

In Lair of the Shadow Broker, Liara has a single line that definitely hints at Prothean involvement in ME3. Also, Protheans were a galaxy spanning civilization of primarily them. That's a lot of them.

They never really explain within ME2's campaign and DLC why the Collectors want Shepard's corpse, or why Harbinger and the Collector General keep talking like they're holding back when fighting you.

I recall in one of the posts here that show off cut dialog from LotSB, Liara is talking about how she discovered why the collectors want Shepard. In part it's because he's somewhat resistant to Reaper tech, and also he interfaced with the beacon, and still has the Prothean cipher in his head. If the Collectors can get their hands on that cipher, they could have restored some small part of themselves that was gutted by the Reapers.

The collector general seems to be in the same situation Saren was in, a pawn, but a powerful pawn.

I highly doubt the Collectors will make a return in Mass Effect 3. It would be cool, but I doubt it will happen.

I don't fully get why the Collectors (mindless drohnes) wanted to get their hands on Shepard & the Cypher. The only one of the Collectors being able to act on his own was the General - at least it appears so in the final seconds of his life. Maybe the General was the only one left being able to act on his own and give commands - which makes sense, since Harbinger has other stuff to do than organizing an entire army of pawns. Harbinger used the General for that job.

Either the General was able to hide part of his own plans (if you're right), or he needed Shepard's corpse for the Cypher only and, of course, to find out why Shepard can't get indoctrinated / is resistant to Reaper tech. Also since every Reaper has a voice, a "speaker" character, maybe Shepard is needed as "speaker" for a new Reaper (Human reaper!). Makes sense, since Shepard is strong-minded and could function as "controller" or "admin" of a Reaper: every single Reaper is "legion", means, millions of minds are fused together into one huge entity.

Seems kind of obvious that the Collectors had one base and one ship to their name both of which get thoroughly cleansed of collector life.

I don't care if that was cut. It's the first good theory I've heard other than "because you killed a Reaper."
Which was a BS guess on TIM's part. And while I love TIM, I'm really hoping that explanation makes its way into ME3. Or at least something similar... it should have happened in ME2 though.

Killing a Reaper is more signifigant then you think, in all their time Reaping only 2 Reapers have been killed (as far as we know). With a kill to death ratio like that you definitely pay attention to who got the kill.

Well, they had more than one ship, so who knows. Maybe the Reapers can find it and reactivate them.
