Just for the record I'm well aware this question is probably better suited on the xbox forums but I feel like I'd get a better answer here. As you may have guesed I have an xbox, duh, but since I normally stick with SP games I dont bother with getting a gold subscription. Now my question is this: How does microsoft deal with SP MP (haven't been keeping up with current events, thats still confirmed right?), do you need gold to play MP alone (if it's even microsoft's choice, never bothered doing research into who decides)? Thanks in advance.

Yes you need Xbox Live Gold to play MP games on Live. Mass Effect 1 and 2 both require you to be connected to XBL to play the sp games . Microsoft has always had playing MP games on Live behind the Gold subscription since 2002 when XBL was released

I recommend you get a gold account, Microsoft won't allow you to play games online without one. I ended up getting one simply because I couldn't do any MP on GOW with my friends with just a silver account.

*Sigh* new it was too much to hope for, thanks guys/gals.
That would be the smart idea but even when I did have gold I never used it. Only way I will even consider it is if the new update tomorrow makes youtube a gold only feature.

You tube is coming to XBL but it won't be ready on Tues . It will be released later this month .

Whuh? That part's not true. My XBox wasn't hooked up to Live this week for lack of internet service, and I played an hour of ME1 no problemo. The other parts are true, aye. Gold required for multiplayer XBL gaming.

Yeah you can definitely play both ME1/2 without internet I just finished playing through both a few days ago.

I didn't even know YouTube was coming to XBL. That's pretty awesome if it functions the same way as it does on a computer.

Don't bother... you definately don't need an internet connection to play those games. I've never been on XBoxLive other than to download updates, patches and DLC(my wife doesn't like to share our internet connection!).
They've worked fine. I'm not sure about a local connection or MP offline feature though...
