So first of all i was surprised how much fun itis to play bg2 , i bought it a long time ago but the graphics just turned me away. Now I played through the tutorial and lingering in the dungeon at the beginning and realized how in depth the game mechanics are in comparison to newer games like DA etc...

So I want to really dig in deep into this, but I have some problems here,

1. Is there a way to read about special abilites besides Magic??? I started to play an Archer, but I dont know what these abilities do, do i have to look them all up in the inet??

2. In combat there are sometimes small icons popping up on the character pictures ( buffs etc...) , is there some way to read in detail the status of a character and what these icons mean ?

3. When a items icon is blue, dioes that mean that it is better then the gear the character is wearing right now?

4.When sb of your teammates dies, can you revive him or is this the end of the character? ;)

5. Is there a UI mod for 1920x 1080? I tried to play it in this resolution, well the text is just too tiny.

Thx for the help ^^::

class specific abilities can be read up on in the class description on your character sheet. The special abilities of the protagonist are equivalent to the cleric spells of the same name(s). Since you don't have a cleric (and should therefore be unable to cast Draw Upon Holy Might), here is the description:

Draw Upon Holy Might (Invocation)
Level: 2
Sphere: Combat
Range: 0
Duration: 1 turn
Casting Time: 2
Area of Effect: The caster
Saving Throw: None

The priest calls upon his god to grant him power for a short period.  When he does this, his strength, constitution and dexterity all are raised by 1 point for every 3 levels of the caster.  A third level caster would have his abilities raised by 1, while a 12th level caster would have all his abilities raised by 4.

(note that all spells are capped at level 20)

2. In combat there are sometimes small icons popping up on the character pictures ( buffs etc...) , is there some way to read in detail the status of a character and what these icons mean ?

Not in-game, no.
Your own buffs should be obvious, the various stun effects likewise (since they have a direct effect [unless they don't, in which case you can ignore them]). If it's something else, try reading the game log. This is important. If it says your level/intelligence is drained, then you should react immediately. Not just for the obvious reason that a lower level will reduce your combat effectivity; if either of these values reaches 0, you die.
If there is something else, you can always ask here.

3. When a items icon is blue, dioes that mean that it is better then the gear the character is wearing right now?

I'm guessing you mean a blue background?
That is used to indicate that you do not know the weapon. It needs to be identified. That can be done with the spell Identify, with a high Lore score (lore depends on your class, level, intelligence and wisdom), or at a store.
Most of the items that can be identified in BG2 are useful and if it's in the starting dungeon (where you are right now), it's a better alternative than a non-magical weapon (of the same kind) that you've been using before.

Some items are cursed. They have (mostly) negative effects and you cannot remove them once you've started using them, until you use the spell Remove Curse.

4.When sb of your teammates dies, can you revive him or is this the end of the character? ;)

Depends. If you can still see their portrait, they can be revived. If the portrait disappears (for example because you kicked them out of the party after they died or because their health went below -10 HP ), they are gone for good.

You can get a brief description of these by looking at your character sheet/record (the button on the left shaped like a head). It won't tell you how long the effect will last, what's causing it, how it can be removed, etc., but you can at least have a name for what you're seeing that you can look up/ask about. Most bad effects can be removed by resting, but you should be able to find other ways to remove them as you progress through the game.

Welcome to the Sword Coast, and happy adventuring!
