I know I have to be doing something wrong since everyone is crazy about this game but im only a few levels into it and im having 0 fun. The main problem im having is its imposable for me to actualy do my normal stuff as a vanguard. I can never get close enought to use my shotgun without dieing, charge is basicly a suicide move inless only 1 guy left and half the time its useless because guys are shooting from unreachable spots on the map, and i die in 2 seconds out of cover. It feels more like im playing a engineer without any abilitys then my old vanguard from me1.
Right now im on the Daratar: Smuggling cargo misson and i can hardly kill these robots, all my powers are useless and even 2 overloads hardly dent the shields, i can nomaly only kill 1 but im out of shotgun and heavy pistol ammo then the second one just seems to walk around whatever cover im hiding behind and shoot me dead in a second.
Please help, I loved me1 but this just is not fun at all to me.
Need help with vanguard. Reaching ragequit levels.

Daratar is very difficult mission- probably the most difficult of all the N7 missions. I would not recommend doing it early.
There are some excellent youtube videos on how to play a vanguard effectively. Essentially, especially at early levels you should charge isolated enemies who are near cover. Never charge into a group. Never charge an enemy that excels at short-range combat like a pyro or a krogan.

The mission to save the cargo from the 3 heavy mechs is as HolyAvenger says one of the hardest in the game to do of N7 and perhaps all missions in some ways. Unless you wish to use stasis, the Cain, or a cheese trick like shooting rockets into the air, it is hard to beat them later, let alone early in the game.
For the Vanguard you want to max passive to reduce the recharge time on your Charge ability, since it is the only thing that effects it, so get your passive early. Charge ability recharges shields when you charge, so charging again is often the best way. The thing to remember is early on your shields on Insanity will be made of paper, and you will die in seconds due to this. Charge is a high risk, high reward power, and it takes time and practice to get the best of it.
I have recently recorded a high level Vanguard on Tali's loyalty mission, but it can give you an idea of what is possible. Please remember, this guy has max shields, Heavy charge, damage reduction upgrades, weapon upgrades all of which make the game easier.

Now for early game, you will limit what you charge, and get a better understanding of what you can do and what you can't. You companions will play an important role early, stripping defenses and taking some of the heat off you. Don't forget to use them and pay attention to what mission you are doing and what you will be facing to determine who you take.

The Vanguard is a very high risk - high reward class. On early levels on Insanity it can be more high risk than high reward.
For Charging with a low-level Vanguard, I recommend the checking out the following videos:
Low Level Vanguard Instruction Video by sinosleep
Mass Effect 2: Vanguard Charging 101 by averagegatsby
As a Vanguard, your leveling priorities should be as follows:
1. Max Charge to Heavy Charge, since it gives you a 100% shield bonus and time dilation.
2. Max Combat Mastery for better cooldowns. You may want Champion for the maximum cooldown.
3. Most Vanguard players will max Incendiary Ammo to Inferno Ammo next.
After that, it is up to you. Charge-heavy Vanguard players tend to max Cryo Ammo to Squad Cryo Ammo next. Hope that helps.

In the beginning you aren't going to be charging all over the place or chaining charges. You will have to limit it to isolated enemies. Pick a target that is on the edge of the group preferably near cover. You can charge and then retreat to cover.
The other thing is that you should be mixing in your other weapons early since you can't just charge at will. Use the other ones at range to deal with protections, or pick off the people you can't charge anyway. You may feel like getting behind cover, shooting pistols or SMGs and managing your squad isn't how a Vanguard plays, but that is basically how it works until you get more points invested. Once you max charge and passive and get a few shield upgrades, it will be a lot easier.
I don't know what you took as a bonus, but I liked Slam because it works with only 1 pt and it has a fast cooldown.
As for the crate mission... I just don't bother with that one until late game. Or I simply don't care how many crates I save. Besides bragging rights, there is little incentive to save any.
