Now I'll start by saying I think it is a good game so far, but....

Did
they release this game in horrible shape for the PC or what?  Direct X
and PhysX which were the reason I got this game on PC and not console
run terribly.  I had to turn them off or it was a slide show sometimes,
especially when first entering some areas.

They delayed the
game on PC and then put it out in this condition?  How does this stuff
make it past testing? I built a PC and video card that runs DirectX 11
for games that use DirectX 11, people shouldn't have to downgrade to
DirectX 9.

Anyone else have these problems?

It has issues on PC. RockSteady has just joined the club of lazy console devs.

I'm loving the game on PC but it does have issues, most notably the DirectX 11 features slow everything right down  and generally it's a bit unstable. Tends to crash quite able, sometimes even at the title screen(before getting into the game).

You guys are aware that there was a beta patch that was leaked that significantly improved DX11 performance right?

Link to beta patch.

I recommend backing up the regular files before patching the game, so that when the official patch is released, there won't be any issues.

Also, this game on PC is FUGGIN AWESOME!! Totally blows the console version away in every respect! In fact, Rocksteady themselves have called the PC version the "definitive" version of Batman Arkham City.

Oh cool, thanks Unbannable. I'll give it a go. And you're right, visually and gameplay wise it's much better than console.:D

I'll have to try that patch. Yeah, graphics and gameplay are excellent. I love how nimble batman is when he's getting around the city.

Oh Thanks.

Like I said I like the game so far.  The performance problems don't affect my opinion of the actual game so far.  I just thought it terribe they released the game in this condition for PC.

I'm sure Rocksteady knew about the DX11 performance issues.  They released it anyway though because they knew that releasing it before Black Friday would generate higher sales.

Also, Microsoft's GFWL has a long quality assurance procedure, which was why a Rocksteady employee leaked the beta patch.

All in all, even though I was ticked off that the DX11 path was broken, I'm still glad they included it and made good use of it.

This game doesn't skimp on tessellation.  It has almost as much tessellation as Crysis 2 in fact.  A lot of the buildings, walls, statues and other surfaces are tessellated, which surprised me.  And the shadows and ambient occlusion effects look far better in DX11 mode.

Also, the PhysX effects are awesome in this game.  They are much more varied and impressive than what was in Arkham Asylum.

This game is really amazing.  I can't believe Batman Arkham City managed to surpass Batman Arkham Asylum in every category Image IPB

Those guys at Rocksteady have some serious talent, and of course, Paul Dini is an incredible writer, so good things happen when you mix them together Image IPB

I have to say whoever did the sound design for fighting kinda dropped the ball. You hear the same effects over and over and they lack a certain sense of impact.

I cannot even start this game.

First, even though it is already activated on Steam and using Steam DRM + whatever kind of proprietary warner bros online activation service where I had to manually enter another activation code, it's also asking me to sign up to join some kind of "gamer club" on windows live or something, or I supposedly won't be able to save my game. Why does the game need three different kinds of DRM?

I just skipped that option because I was only launching it to make sure it runs properly and I don't want to sign up for any gamer club.

However, it's not even possible to remap the controls! There is a "controls settings" menu, but you can't change anything and I'm supposed to open the "games explorer" window or right click on the launch icon. I have never heard of this.

I tried right clicking on the launch icon and nothing. I opened my "games" folder in windows and there is nothing there.

I use a NumPad, so I cannot use the default WASD controls.

Anyone else had success remaping the key bindings?

EDIT: i was able to access the keybindings by opening a file called RunLauncher.bat in C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\batman2

Still haven't found any workaround for the windows live gamer club. I don't want to sign up for any hotmail or windows live account. I was able to start it, but it seems I can't save the game.

Usually when the frame rate is too low, the result looks like a slideshow. However, in the case of Arkham City, it looks like the entire game is in super slow motion and much of the audio is out of sync. I have never seen this sort of visual effect of low frame rate before, will try reducing resolution and running again.

You can use Texmod with Arkham City. But I don't think it works with DX11, so you would have to run the game in DX9.

Now that they've patched it, and I have my shiny new Twin Frozr III 580 GTX Lightning, this is my game of the year now lol.

Unfortunately you have to have Games For Windows Live to be able to save otherwise it wont let you.
I hate the DRM for this game but it works fine for me despite it.  I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

If anyone else has the problem where the game is running in slow motion and out of sync, I was able to fix it by adjusting a few settings by activating the Launcher.bat file:

1. Change Detail Level (Extreme) to Detail Level (High)

2. Change FXAA (High) to FXAA (Low)

3. Change DX11 Tesselation (High) to DX11 Tessellation (Medium)

4. Turn off Ambient Occlusion, Motion Blur, Distortion, Dynamic Shadows, Reflections

Everything else remained the same (1920x1080, MVSS and HBAD enabled, Lens Flares and Light Shafts enabled, Vsync off).

It is quite a different experience! Before adjusting these settings all the combat and the entire game was in slow motion. Not a slideshow as is usual with low framerate, but more like extreme time lapse photography slow motion. Now it is quite playable.

The cutscene at the beginning where the bearded doctor in spectacles talks to you is still out of sync (his lip movements are way off from the dialogue), but for the most part it seems to be much more in sync and I no longer hear the audio clipping noise.

My specs:

i7-820QM 1.73GHz (3.06GHz turbo)
1GB AMD 5830 Mobility
16GB DDR3 RAM
